When you get a new "diet" book, do you:
1. Read the actual diet theory
2. Read the recipes 3. Read the menu plan or 4. Skim the whole thing without really "reading" anything I'm a 3, then 2, then 4 lol rarely a 1 unless it's something I've really never heard of before. |

I have only ever bought one diet book, and that was the Gary Taubes book. I can't even remember the name of it (was on my Kindle, now deleted).
I started on this site the next day though, so ironically he led me to JUDDD!![]() |

Dottie, This is very interesting.
I am 3 and then 1. Since, I know I would fail at a vegan or similar plan, that rules out the Raw diet (though I did look into it) and similar plans. However, I have recently upped my veggies by quite a bit and love that, so that just shows that never say never. BTW, I think my library looks similar to a health & fitness library, because I have spent a lot studying some of the most popular. Eades, Taubes, Julia Ross, Nicholas Perricone, Groves, Steven Pratt, Sisson, Pollan, Fuhrman, & now Jaminet. Last edited by sunday; 01-20-2013 at 08:20 AM.. |

I read the actual diet theory. I have never found recipes or menu plans in ANY diet book that I could possibly follow.
for one thing, they always leave you with weird leftovers. you can't make something that uses 1/4 of a package of something perishable and then not repeat the recipe! what are you supposed to do with the other 3/4 of it? sometimes you can feed it to family, but many times NOT. |

I am a 1.
In fact, before I buy a 'diet' book I do a lot of research on the internet to make sure I am actually interested in studying the WOE.I am with Dottie and Raven, I hardly ever read the recipes or the menu plan. If I want to read recipes, I pull out a pre-1980's cookbook and adapt them!! |

I'm a #1 for sure. I don't even look at the menu section. I usually skim the recipe section and mark a couple that look good, but rarely do I go back and make them!

I'm 1 and 3 -- but I've never been into diet books (childhood bad memories). And the few LC ones and then the JUDDD one that I have, all are structured the same (something Drs. Eades once pointed out on a blog and I find it true).
So I read why their new idea is workable, and what a menu plan looks like, and maybe a couple recipes if it's very different. |

I do 1, then 3, then 2. I do keep an eye on the recipes and copy out some that appeal to me, but I alter things (forget 1/4 cup onion, use 1 small onion, etc.) to avoid annoying bits of leftover ingredients.

I'm definitely a # 1. I look at the recipes, but very seldom try them. I'm with Ravenrose...don't want to have weird leftovers to throw out!

I am sort of a 4.
I read their thoughts on saturated fat. If they disagree with mine, I disregard it. I culled my 20 yr diet book collection down to nothing that way. I also got extremely cranky when I bought the kindle version on the JUDDD book and saw that Dr J said to avoid saturated fat, red meat and full fat dairy ![]() |

I've only bought two diet books: Atkins and "High Protein". I'm a #1. Did skim the recipes and menus.
