Calories in oat fiber

Hi all!

Over in the "main" recipe section, most folks count oat FIBER (not oat bran or flour) as zero because they count net carbs.....and apparently oat fiber has none.

I, however, count ALL calories. Since I think most of you do, too, I thought I would ask you all how many calories you count for oat fiber. I was thinking of just weighing what I use and counting it as 4cal/gram.

Your thoughts are appreciated :)

I'm pretty sure it's non-digestible fiber and has no calories. I'm sure someone else will be along shortly who can give a better answer. It makes me ill, so I don't use it anymore.

I really don't think you need to count oat fiber as having any calories. It really is as indigestible as sawdust! just like extremely finely powdered sawdust.

I don't count them but if you choose to count the calories:

I have it listed as 1/4 cup is 32 carbs and 6 calories

1 Tbs is 8 carbs and 2 calories and 8 fiber

HTH

If you click the link to Oat Fiber, it'll take you to the Netrition page of Oat Fiber - scroll down to look at Nutrition Facts, it has the calorie and carb count at 0 for 1 Tablespoon.

Gosh, that's too bad. How does it make you ill, Dawn, if you don't mind me asking?

Gastric distress. That's all I'm saying. :hyst: Although, if nothing else is working to get things moving, I suppose I could make a OMM with oat fiber and that should take care of it!

That's interesting. It would seem that oat fiber would be oat fiber no matter what the brand! Not that the difference is at all significant, but 1 Tbs of Lifesource is 0 cal/3 carb, but Honeyville is 2 cal/8 carbs.
