Glad to help!!! When I went to the gastro specialist he specifically told me that I would need bloodwork done in a month or two to check for those deficiencies. I started noticing the side effects about 3 weeks ago so I started the magnesium and b-12 myself. I think they can prescribe the magnesium too I'll ask on the 25th at my appointment.

Ok, I just wanted to update that I went and bought a magnesium supplement that night. I started taking it in the am and my heartburn pills at night. I had to do it this way because the heartburn is worse at night and for me to sleep its a must like this. First 2 days I was running to the potty alot. But it seems to have worked its self to becoming regular! I am so happy over this. I did manage to get on the scale this am and I was back at the 170 mark. I had 2 UD's in a row or it might have been less.

I didnt plan for the 2 UD's but what can you do. My boss got really ill and was hospitalized for a few days at the beginning of the year. So I had her and her hubby to take care of running to doc appointments and the one day we had to drive 1 1/2 hrs for an appointment and the doc was late and we ended up going to a resturant. I tried to just do soup but she was getting a bit angry with me for telling her no I am good 100 times, so I ended up just getting a reuben sandwhich and made her happy. But that sparked hunger in me and by the time I got home, I think if it wasnt nailed down, I ate it! ugggh!

So happy about the magnesium and its working so far.

I did want to ask Carly- the ballerina tea, what is it called? I was looking for it at walmart, just to read it. But I couldnt find it and the workers thought I was nuts when I asked for it!!! lol!!

Katie, I can't tell you about the tea, but I can tell you that two prunes a night are working for me. Another member suggested it, and it seemed the simplest solution, and it was!

It is called 3 Ballerina tea and it is in the diet tea section. I have not tried it. Made a 'just in case' note when Carly told us about it.

hmmmm thank you both about the tea. my Wal-Mart must not carry it then. I looked in tea and diet section. ended up asking an employee and got weird looks. that explains I guess. I will try the other Wal-Mart this week and see if they have it. I want some just to keep on hand at home!

Do you have an asian grocer? I think Aisian markets and even some Spanish markets carry it.

Alrightie, I'm off to google symptoms of magnesium & B12 deficiencies. I have been on PPIs (or before those were around, just tagamet & zantac) since I was 16! Ah, I'm 43! Don't recall anyone ever checking for deficiencies in those for me. I know I'm always anemic but that's about it. Thanks for the info girls!

Katie, so glad you're feeling better!!!

For you ladies with acid reflux, I found something that *fixed* mine. I coughed for years without realizing I had acid reflux, only putting the pieces together after it got really bad. It got to where I would wake up choking at night, with bile flooding into my nose & sinuses...I honestly started wondering if it was possible to die from this!!! I still get it a little bit if I eat too close to bedtime (especially wheat!!!), but I'm talking once a month or less, and NEVER as severe as it used to be.

If you go to amazon and type in "bentonite clay" then scroll down to the NOW Foods brand, I have a review that describes in more detail how it helped me & how to use it.

Of course I don't mean this as medical advice, and please check if there are any reasons you *shouldn't* take it (contraindications). One thing I've read is that it while it can absorb toxins, it can also absorb nutrients and medications. So take it an hour or two before/after vitamins, medicine, food.

Also, it might not work for others as well as it worked for me, but if you like natural remedies vs medications, it might be worth a shot. It can be used for facials/acne, and treating topical allergic reactions like poison ivy & bee stings, so I like having it around even though I rarely use it now.

I had my physical today at my PCP and I asked him to add a test for Magnesium on my bloodwork because the gastro doc wanted it done. My PCP said he never heard of acid reflux medicine causing low Magnesium. He said they "give these pills out like water" Umm, maybe the gastro doctors should talk to the PCPs to make patients aware of this??? He ordered the Magnesium test for me. But, I also read up on it and your magnesium can be in the low/normal range and you can still be suffering side effects of low magnesium. I'm sticking with my 500 mg tablets once or twice a day. I've felt so much better on them. I also take 1000 mg B-12 once a day and Potassium tablets (2 tablets/ 2X per day).

I didn't take anything today and fasted for like 17 hours before my blood test so I'll let you all know the results.....

It's not easy to take too much magnesium...your body will let you know when it's had enough. (Hint: it's sometimes used as a laxative!)

So if you're not sure you're getting enough magnesium, you can increase your dose little by little...once you start getting tummy gurgles, back off to the previous dose.

Glad things are looking better Tanya.

Quick caution: Bentonite clay is wonderfully cleansing but, when used internally, can cause constipation if you don't drink plenty of water.

For lots of compelling reasons, senna should be avoided like the plague - IMHO.

Good point!
I *do* saturate mine with water before taking (instructions in my review) rather than trying to mix into water & take immediately.

Ok so I looked up the bentonite clay. That interests me. I am gonna ask my doc what he thinks first thought! But I tell you it has other uses that interest me too.......you can use it on posion ivy and that! Summertime I can get that just looking at it!

The 3 ballerina tea I looked up and well that scares me. The side effects of it is just not worth it I think. It can cause finger clubbing, swelling, fast heart rate, can make you pass out......list goes on and on......eeekkkk!!!

The magnesium has been working great for me thought. I take a 250mg pill every morning and by evening its working just fine!

I would just stick with the magnesium if it's working I bought Natural Calm and I just started it yesterday. It's in powdered form and it is supposedly used better by the body. So far, so good. (TMI - I already went this morning and there was no constipation and very easy!)

My blood results all came back normal. The range for magnesium was something like 1.6-3.8 (can't remember exactly) and mine was 1.8 - so I was on the low end of the magnesium level. The doctor still calls it normal but I am going to continue with the magnesium supplements.
