My funny JUDDD moment today

I'm trying to get my UDs under control and have decided to incorporate some frozen, pre-packaged meals into them, so it's easier to keep track of calories. I went to Meijer this morning and was not planning on getting 'diet' entrees, but there was a big sale on the Weight Watcher Smart One entrees ($1.68 ea), plus there was a $2 off coupon attached to one of the boxes when you buy 10. So I loaded up my cart with 10 of these, and then saw that frozen boxes of egg rolls were on sale 2/$5 plus buy 2 get 1 free. So three of those went into my cart (150c each egg roll, these might be a DD treat instead of an UD one!) Along with two cases of pop, 5 boxes of Lipton instant soup (for DDs), 3 lunchables (kids) and donuts (I let my kids spend $1 out of their piggy banks and they chose these :) ). On the way to checkout I ran into an acquaintance from church and she was discretely eyeballing my cart (those darn WW entrees have fire-engine colored boxes). But, no big deal.

However, I went to a self-check out and in front of me was a very attractive man (I'm married, but I ain't dead :hyst: ). His cart consisted of veggies, veggies, and more veggies. And then a few organic, all natural items. We were sharing the conveyer belt (he was loading his paid for groceries and I was scanning mine), and I noticed he kept glancing at my items as they came down to belt. There was a point where both of our piles of groceries were next to each other in the loading area, divided by a separator strip. It was a bit (ok a lot) embarrassing :o He just smiled at me and walked away afterward, but I was feeling a bit sheepish lol. Really, I do eat healthy I promise

Have you ever had a funny moment at the grocery store/restaurants etc, with our 'unusual' eating plan?

Funny story.
I can see u now! Smile, red cartons.

I do soooo judge people by their groceries. (don't we all?):o He was probably wishing he didn't have to chop all those veggies in his bag and could just pop lunch into the microwave.

Funny! He's thinking, "that poor lady can't even cook!"

My favorite moment was one time when I was stocking up on liquor. Usually I do that at BevMo, but sometimes the grocery store has great prices. I remember one trip when Coke was on sale, so I had 4 12-packs of Diet Dr Pepper, 4 of Diet Cherry Coke, a 1.5 liter of vodka, a 1.5 liter of gin, and 1.5 liter of Black Velvet. All liquids. Nothing nutritious. The looks I got! I realize it made me look like I had a problem! Hey, I like to buy in bulk, and then not have to worry about it for a good long while!

The checker said "Having a party, huh?". I should've just said "Yeah." but didn't think in time and said something dumb like "No, this is just normal for me." Meaning normal for about 6 months! He just looked at me. Oh well!

The fun shopping trips were when I was doing Atkins and loading up on steak, bacon, eggs, cream cheese, cheese, and then about 2 tons of vegetables.. the confusion on people's faces is priceless..then there are the few who "got it" and kinda smiled like they got the joke.

So I just had to add to this... I do the same thing at the pet store. The last time I was in, I bought 12 bags of cat litter, 1 3 pound bag of cat food (for the indoor cats), 1 15 pound bag of catfood (for the strays), and a thing of kitty grass. The lady behind the counter (seriously! the employee!), said to me, "How many cats do you HAVE?!?!?" :hyst:

I said, "just two but what happens if there is an earthquake? I mean, I wouldn't want to not be able to change the cat litter..."

She must be a dog person... :D

The only carts I would LOL at would be the ones that look like my DH's.

He buys the same thing every.single.time. He always has the 10 pack of tuna/salmon, one veggie tray (you know the one in the salad section w/ a teensy ranch dressing), a couple of cans of Wolf Brand Chili, Pepperidge Farm cookies, Reese Dk Chocolate Peanut Butter minis, Blue Bell Butter Brickle ice cream, Magnum Dk Choc Ice Cream bars, Mac Nut/White Choc Cookies and special dark chocolate Hot Cocoa mix.

I always tease him that the "real" reason behind the veggie tray is just so that he doesn't feel so conspicuous.

Oh, and he doesn't do my shopping. I think the outer aisles freak him out. :)

And he always has one frozen pizza every.single.time. :p

KeirasMom 01-03-2013 02:40 PM

That's funny. My DH has discovered that meat (any kind, really) isn't agreeing with him since his WLS. He did okay with it for a week or two, but now he just can't eat it. His shopping cart is full of yogurt, soup, mac & cheese, and popsicles. I wonder what people think when he's shopping.

Dawn, I was wondering how he is eating now? He can't eat meat? My DH had chemo/radiation on his esophagus right about the time we met and he still can't eat beef or certain cuts of meat. He drank Ensure and yogurt only for quite a while. He still drinks ensure to make sure he is not lacking in protein/vitamins.

TJ: Holy cow, Dawn! Your new avi is awesome!! You look so fantastic! I remember one of your old avi's where you, your DD, and your DH (I think) were all sticking your tongues out for the camera. That pic was super cute, but this one is A. Maz. Ing. Holla!!!! :sing:

OK, TJ over. =)

KeirasMom 01-03-2013 02:51 PM

Yep, so far it's meat and eggs which make him ill. Which is weird because he did great with eggs in the beginning. He's even tried a small bite of Keira's birthday cake and other sugary options with no problems (not that that's a good thing), but he's really paying attention to what he's eating and how it's making him feel. He can't eat anything greasy either. He doesn't drink Ensure, but he does use protein shakes and sometimes protein bars if he wants to chew.

Thanks Andrea. :o Almost to goal, so I thought it was time to update.

Dawn you look great! Only a skinny-mini can pull off a short funky hair cut! You went lighter too? It's nice

KeirasMom 01-03-2013 06:35 PM

Hehe, I went greyer. I stopped dying it. :D

Carly 01-03-2013 06:41 PM

Dawn, you do look stunning in the new avi!

ouizoid 01-03-2013 06:48 PM

Ha! funny story Mom! I can relate. My grocery store story has to do with having a patient of mine behind me in the checkout line (I'm a psychologist). All I had in my cart was liquor and toilet paper. Ha!

All the time. Come to think of it, I tend to shop for DD foods (meat or lotsa potatoes) on one day and UD foods (gelato!) on other days. The nice lady at checkout has been giving me some very strange looks lately.

I have been wanting to let mine go grey. It is such a freeing feeling and no more costly salon visits. I have white with some silver, so it is going to be different although not a big change. I love your haircut!

Hope that your hubby is feeling well. :) I understand about fats being a NO go, but I was hoping that he could eat some lean meat.

I hate when I need to pick up something for some last minute get-together or something and it's from the bakery (cake, cookies, muffins, etc., usually due to a request). I'm always thinking the people behind me and/or the checkout person is thinking "oh yeah, you REALLY need that, honey".
