I am a newbie here at the potato hack. I did try Juddd. I love the concept and I did lose weight the 1st 2 weeks but then nothing. Since I have a weight deadline and have to be weighed every 3 months at work, I went back to LC. But I think that burned out on me, so this week decided to try the potato thing. I did not lose the 1st day but lost 2 the 2nd day and down another so for 3 days, 3 lbs. Not too bad. Being the weekend and I had a big hankering for a hot dog, I did have my regular breakfast and hot dogs with mustard and bread and butter pickles, which I rinsed to get rid of some of the sugar for lunch with was around 3:30 ish and still not hungry here at 8:08 pm. So I am well satisfied. I did a mix of sweet potatoes and russet potatos, making micro french fries and baked and boiled. I did not have the malt vinegar after searching several stores, so used acv and then got some fat free sour cream the 2nd day. Sometimes I even eat them with nothing on them. The baked ones were good like that and only put cinnimon on the sweet potatoes. Figure I will do potatoes during the week and low carb on weekend. Just wanted to put my 2 cents in. Thanks to who ever came up with this.

Okay here's a crazy question.
Does anyone have any opinions on taking glumetza while doing the potato hack? Do you think the glumetza would mess up the "magic" of the PH? I am planning on doing a couple PH DD and JUST thought of this (I am on glumetza for PCOS). |

I don't know anything about that medication, but I do not think the potato hack is advisable if one is on any type of diabetic/ blood glucose effecting medication. I became so severely hypoglycemic that it was probably dangerous. I felt like I was going to faint. My heart was pounding and I was dizzy and nauseous after 40 hours. I would be very, very, careful.

Thank you for your input. I do appreciate it.
My numbers are very good right now, I started Glumetza almost 2 years ago. I am not diabetic but am insulin resistant. I don't really get hypoglycemic, Glumetza pretty much prevents that. Hrrmmmm. |

There is some talk of blood sugar readings in both potato threads - the long one on this board and the one on the paleo board. Specifically, Pirate Jenny & Otzi are tracking their blood glucose and talk about the affects of the potato hack on their levels.

It's still very early days for me on JUDDD, but I have been reading a lot about the potato hack and find myself intrigued. Am I correct in thinking that most people do it for several days at a time? Is there anyone who does it only on DD's and just eats normally on UD's? If so, what's your experience doing that been?

Deen--there are people who DD with the tater hack--they find that they are much less hungry doing so. Then they eat normally on UD's. Others do several potato days in a row and then go back to their normal routine (JUDDD or whatever else).

And I need to do the potato hack again to lose the 5 pounds I gained trying out 4:3. I use broth cubes on potato DD's if I feel I need it. Not every DD but sometimes.
I also did potato DD's and modified potato UD's using a baked potato with LF cottage cheese or lowfat sour cream and salsa. I still eat an egg breakfast, wait 6 or 7 hours and then have cold boiled potatoes with salt the rest of the day. I did a potato DD today and I had two cups of broth. One at lunch and another in the afternoon. I was really hungry for some reason.

Adi,
Sara & I are hacking right now too. She's doing M-W, I'm M-?? I made the decision I was going to last week when I was at my lowest (173.5) because I really wanted to see the 160's by the end of April. Now I've bounced up to 176 so I'd be happy to be back at the low 170's. I've added rice, as has SlowSure. I am probably 50/50 potatoes & rice, my latest creating using SS's recipe for rice congee. Love it!! I still can't do the potatoes cold like you do, and for both of us, straight potatoes more than 2 days causes some pretty significant GI upset. But the glycemic impact of rice is similar so it is still accomplishing the same thing, but without the complete nutritional profile of the potato to allow it to be the sole source of nutrition. On a separate note, I use broth on my potatoes, and drink it straight, on potato days. |

The PH is a no-to-minimum added fat WOE: if you add more than a minimum of fat or protein to the day, and it's within the scope of your previous or next meal, then you may be altering the glycaemic index of the potato and blunting your blood sugar or insulin response (and these have been proposed as a mechanism for why it works - although nobody really knows at present). If it's a fat-free broth that also doesn't contain much in the way of substantial protein, then it's probably OK to have during the day or between meal times. |

The Wyler cubes state 0 fat and 0 protein. Mostly salt. My broth base says .5g fat and 0 g protein so most of the packaged would be fine. Homemade would have to have the fat skimmed and then strained I would think.

I was going to do the PH as a DD today and last night decided against it. I weighed (on my cheapy food scale) some potatoes, and 16 ounces was 2 not so big, and 1 small potato. That would be for the whole day. It didn't seem like enough.
Then I was thinking later if I mashed them up it might be okay. Not sure yet what I am going to do. Might do a PH MD one of these days. Even if I increase my DD calories for a PH to 600, it seems like so little food. ![]() |

I keep calories on my potato DD's to 600 or less. The longer I do them the easier it is IF I have cold boiled potatoes (golds) with salt. Other condiments make me want more. I use small potatoes about 4 to 5 oz each. BUT I always eat an egg breakfast and then wait 6 hours to stat eating potatoes. So I am not doing the true version.

After losing 8 pounds in the first month of JUDDD, I've stalled, so I am now trying a Potato Hack to see if I can break my current setpoint.
April 22, 2013 Day 1: Beginning weight 252.6 Buoyed by my friends on the JUDDD forum, I began my 3 day long hack with positive energy. The hack seems to agree with me. The potatoes were quite satisfying and I had no hunger whatsoever. A very pleasing side effect of the PH is a total lack of food obsession. I had no urge to snack between meals. This is truly a miracle ![]() A minor negative effect, probably from drinking gads of water and green tea, was that I had a pee-a-thon , getting out of bed to urinate about 5 times. But I experienced this same urge to pee frequently in the first 2 weeks of JUDDD, when I lost 8 pounds.First day's menu: oven roasted fries with curry powder; potatoes boiled in beef bouillon and thyme; hasselback potatoes with garlic and rosemary. Coffee and SF creamer. Diet jello. A few grams of fresh parsley. April 23, 2013 Day 2: Weight: 252.2 Minor weight loss, but the scale is going in the right direction. Breakfast is ditto of yesterday. Today's plan - flood myself with water, strength training video, and recumbent bike. And ... what the heck -- dye my hair a diffo color ... lol ![]() I will keep you all posted on my hack experiment. Thanks for your kind support and guidance with my questions. L/Cyn |

I had a potato DD yesterday, but added plain Greek yogurt. Having another potato day today. Don't remember if adding yogurt or cottage cheese is a no, no, but trying it anyway.
Very filling to me anyway. |

Your greek yogurt comment made me think of something, JMBM -- does anyone eat the potatoes with ff sour cream? I'm trying it today and i've decided to add that -- sure hoping it won't mess up the chemistry of the potato magic!

Yeah, me either. What are the calories on the FF sr crm? My ff greek yogurt is 120 for a cup. I only use a couple of Tbsp. so it sould be around 20 to 30 cals (for my yogurt) I'd imagine? Just wondered if the sr crm was less cals.

Let's see, the ff sour cream (Breakstone's) has 15 cal. per Tbsp. So that's not bad -- I can't imagine 15 cal. could have much of an effect. I am kind of surprised at how much I'm liking the potatoes! At first I though -- oh, no fat, that's going to be gross! But no, they're really good. I'm cooking them the same way I always do -- baked in a pan, layered over chicken broth and I would normally put a pat of butter on each one -- but without the butter, obviously. I'm not even missing the butter that much!

Ok, thought I'd stop in with a mid-day report.
Potato hack 1st day, 2:53 pm: Definitely feeling weird. Can't really explain it, just sort of woozy and out-of-it. Also felt sleepy about an hour ago. I normally never feel like this on a typically vlc DD -- usually I have tons of energy. Not today -- tried to get some work done in the garden and had to keep coming in to rest. This is going to take getting used to. :/ |
