JKat, I hate being sick too! I tackled mine with airborne and zicam, and am back to about 75% today! I hope u are feeling better soon! Good luck with the weigh-in, I am interested in how the potato hack affects people after they are done with it as well.

Hey everyone

I'm feeling very bloated now and I'm going to be doing a 5 day potato fast starting today...I overate yesterday and I really need to get my appetite in check. 5 days of nothing but potatoes ought to do that

3.6 pounds gone in the first day! It was fantastic, after I gave up being hungry and ate until satisfied. Every time I felt hunger, then I would eat. I could not make it a DD. I have decided to stick with it, day by day, and eat as needed.

After dinner last night, I began the woosh, and it went on all night. I knew something was going on because I don't go that often, nor that much at a time.

This is fun!

Here are the results of my 3 day fast!

I will start with my Wed morning weigh-in, as the results are so crazy to me!!! Tuesday was a normal, yet higher DD for me at 625cal.
134.8- Wed AM, this day I ate lots of bread, and clam chowder, and EVERYTHING else, 2250 cal
135.7- Thursday AM, this is my first potato day 545 cal
133.3- Friday AM this is the 2nd day of me eating potatoes tried for a UD but got 990cal
133.8- Sat AM, was a little confused by the jump, but ate potatoes again 321cal ( and that included a handful of Fat Free pretzels as I was heading to bed)
131.7- Sunday AM HOLY COW??? I totally did the move the scale around the floor game. Weighed myself 3 times as my cat stared at me confused as well. but it didn't change. That's insane!!!
My stats will show you I am 5'5 and very close to my goal weight, so I don't quite understand how I could be down that much!!
I will resume my normal UD today. And stay within my calorie limits (I give myself up to 1800). Tomorrow will be another Potato DD. TOM is approaching very quickly and I am anxious to see what will happen with water weight??
Still confused as to how this happened! But my pants fit great!! And I "feel" the difference. Let's see if I can keep it off!!! Leave for Vacation on the 23rd and I want to be 128!!!

Well done Truffles, that is amazing!

Day five for me and I still don't feel any difference, it obviously is quite different for everyone. But having said that I am always a very difficult case for weight loss!

Will be watching with interest how you get on after you go back to normal eating. I do wonder if it has something to do with water weight because I am using a lot of salt on my potatoes.

I am just using russet potatoes I had at home. I am sticking to the original trial. Salt, pepper and vinegar.

I eat potatoes for brunch cold. Dinner I sliced cold ones into spears and put seasoned salt & Cayenne pepper on them, tossed them into the toaster oven until brown and crunchy. I am addicted to them that way. I ate two potatoes last night toasted up crunchy.

I will keep with this type of menu for today. It was too good yesterday. I need to get back into the JUDDD rotation to get the gene activated, so I believe I will only do the potato hack for 3-4 days.

Thanks for the compliments!
TryingJudd- I found that I got sick of hot potatoes much faster than eating them cold. I enjoyed baby reds boiled, then cooled to room temp (or cold) with A1, dill mustard, or SF ketchup. I also boiled some russets one day and made a HUGE pan of hashbrowns and ate with SF ketchup. Some cook them in a waffle iron. I simply grated mine cold seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder and very lightly (and I mean the 1/4 sec spray) sprayed the pan with olive oil. Used a non-stick pan and let it get VERY hot before dumping my potatoes in. let sit for atleast 6 minutes before you check them, cut in quarters and flip.
Or you could try with a waffle iron... i may need to find mine!

If you can't find a dill mustard, I imagine dijon with some dill would be just as good, kinda like potato salad but without the mayo!

I drank hot tea with splenda, coffee with or without SF syrup, diet dew and diet A&W
I would imagine sugar would be fine. I just don't normally drink my sugars.

I am still undecided on how many days I am doing. Probably one or two more. My dream goal is 145 but I am getting pretty tired of straight potatoes.

I will start this tomorrow as most of our company leaves.

Here is a recipe I posted earlier. Any potato could be used. I'm going to try it with Yukon Golds next

I made a potato salad with steamed red potatoes chopped up, sugar free relish, Walden Farms honey mustard salad dressing, some spicy mustard, onion powder, salt and pepper.

It was yummy. The longer it sat, the more flavorful the potatoe got so best to make it ahead of time. You are also eating the potatoes cold, which is supposed to be good.

I normally do not eat any artificial sweeteners but I may cave just to keep this going for awhile. But I'm not bored enough....yet.

I did have a 500 cal protein/yogurt/fruit smoothie for breakfast this morning. I wanted to try and hit my UD calories. Then about 5 hours later I had my first potato meal. And ds and I played with making chips in the microwave. Yummy but time intensive to make. Total calories I end up with today is 1218. Well below my allotment but I'm good with it. Will see how it goes whether I continue trying to make my calories or not.

Oh, and the scale was down 1.6 pounds from yesterday's first potato day(DD). I admit I hoped for more esp. since it was a DD and I'm still losing holiday gain but we'll just see how it goes.

I just read all 100+ pages at *** () and am ending day #1 of my potato hack.

I made hash browns for breakfast in the George Foreman grill with a little SF ketchup. I steamed a big pot of reds in the morning and squashed 5 smallish ones a little (similar to a Pioneer Woman recipe minus the oil) and broiled them until crisp on top. For dinner I made potato soup with ff chicken broth and a little celery & onion. I snacked on a couple more reds cold throughout the day with salt. I drank coffee, tea, water and diet soda. If I needed a little oil I used an olive oil spray I bought at Trader Joe's.

All in all I wound up at 710 calories and 171 carbs. it is almost 9:00 and I am Not. Hungry. At. All. If I got a peckish throughout the day I ate and felt far more full and satisfied than I would normally on that number of calories.

I feel fine, but DH joined me and he says he feels weak and sluggish and isn't planning another day.

We'll see what the scale says tomorrow.

Doing my first PDD today. Initially, I'm going to "try" to adhere to my DD calories, but if that becomes a problem due to hunger, I'll eat to satisfaction. If today goes well, I may shoot for another day or two.

I think that today is the last day for my potato hack as I want to get back to normal JUDDD rotations before my vacation and regular food. This was a great way to get rid of holiday weight quickly for me and I can definitely see doing it for a week every January to balance out the Christmas/holiday excess. I'll still post my end weight tomorrow from the hack.

Wow Babs that is really impressive and encouraging!

I am not doing JUDDD but still hoping this may be something that could shake things up soon. I'm doing some thyroid tweaking at the moment and that really takes time. I'm close to goal and this looks appealing.

Some people are doing this as just a potato fast, right? Not just JUDDDers?

Thanks Judy! I have been following JUDDD since March but decided to do a week of the potato fast on its own without the JUDDD rotations. I tried to see if I could calorie cycle with it but it just didn't work for me without adding in other foods. After the third day of the hack I decided to just do potato days and that worked out to be around 600-800 calories. I have been full and feeling great but am more than a little tired of potatoes. I am looking forward to being back to all the wonderful food choices that JUDDD allows me. Have you started the potato fast Judy?

I hope you have a good PDD TryingJudd!

No, I haven't started it. I have to shop different ways of eating for a l-o-n-g time before I actually start them.

I had a false start on LC in 2011 and it took me a year (for heaven's sake! ) to get it together enough to start again. By then I'd found the Eat Fat Get Thin group and knew that would work well for me. And it really did. It's also Nutritional Ketosis.

I'm about 8 pounds from goal, never hungry, never feel deprived, but as I said still tweaking thyroid med and hormone meds. I've been about 8 pounds from goal for more than a month and really miss potatoes - I thought this might cure me!

Thanks for answering so quickly!

No problem Judy, I was still here reading posts. What I liked about the hack is that it wasn't really for me a new way of eating but a very temporary few days of dieting. It is great to have a way of eating that agrees with your system which it sounds like you have found as well with EFGT, so the hack wouldn't change that beyond the few days that you follow it. It would be interesting to hear how it works for you if you decide to try it as it sounds like it would be almost the opposit of your regular diet. I hope the thyroid tweaking goes well. It sounds like that can take time to sort through as well.
