Hi Kimberly! I don't know how to post a link on here but the thread is called "A DD hack". Maybe someone else can do a better job of it. Quizoid posted about this potato hack that she had read about and had been having great success with. She posted a quote from someone else that had tried it and it explained it really well. I'll see if I can repost it here...
"Hey, Guys! After reading PKlopp's 'Epic Fail' post, I had to jump in and tell you what I have been up to. As you may know, I'm a small-time potato farmer. Farmer's market and word-of-mouth kind of operation in my spare time. I haven't eaten potatoes in almost 3 years as they were not on the low-carb plan. I lost a lot of weight in 3 years on primal, but stabilized around 210lbs (I'm 6'). I tried hard to lose another 10, but it always came right back on. I did the potato diet from Oct 1-14 and lost 10lbs. Since then, I have stabilized at 198 and had been +/- 3lbs of 198 for 4 full weeks. On Nov 17th, I started another potato diet, more of an experiment, and partly because I didn't want to have to eat my wife's pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving day. My experiment: 8 people (me included). Each person was given 20lbs of potatoes (variety - Seed Potatoes - German Butterball PotatoesOrganic). Each person had approximately 40 potatoes and was instructed to eat nothing else. Water, coffee, tea to drink; salt, pepper, apple-cider vinegar for spices. Here are the results: Person 1 (me) - Starting weight 198, end weight 193, -5lbs, 6 days Person 2 - M - Starting weight 181, end weight 175, -6lbs, 6 days Person 3 - M - Starting weight 264, end weight 260, -4lbs, 5 days Person 4 - M - Starting weight 210, end weight 202, -8lbs, 7 days Person 5 - F - Starting weight 151, end weight 145, -6lbs, 8 days Person 6 - F - Starting weight 140, end weight 134, -6lbs, 8 days Person 7 - F - Starting weight 132, end weight 128, -4lbs, 7 days Person 8 - F - Starting weight 124, end weight 119, -5lbs, 9 days Pounds per day: Person 1 - .83 Person 2 - .66 Person 3 - .80 Person 4 - 1.1 Person 5 - .75 Person 6 - .75 Person 7 - .57 Person 8 - .55 Everybody was so happy they didn't gain over Thanksgiving! Some are continuing, all have said they will do it again. Notice the biggest guy of the bunch ate his potatoes faster and lost less than everybody. The smallest of the group ate her potatoes slowly and lost fairly slowly, but as a percentage it was awesome." so--not a totally randomized experiment or anything, but more info about how it is working for some peeps. Kimberly- I have been trying to modify it to fit into my JUDDD rotations by adding regular food to my UD's.

I did what I could, and am at 990 calories for the day. I could have eaten more earlier, but being sick really takes away my appetite and I forgot.
On the up side, I am starting to feel better already! Been tackling this by rotating airborne and zicam. Started as soon as I started to feel crummy last night at about 7 pm. |

It is hard to tell as the rest of my family snacks on the potatoes as well. I usually have a bowl of potatoes 3 times a day. The bowl would hold 8 to 10 baby potatoes or 2 and a half good sized medium potatoes. By weight I believe most days work out to around 800 calories of potatoes.

I always figure 400 calories/pound for potatoes (maybe a little less for new potatoes). A 4 pound bag of organic yukons from trader joes usually lasts me a couple of days, with maybe a sweet potato or two thrown in there

I am starting my first DD of the potato hack. I gained 10 pounds from October through today. I went off JUDDD through the holidays. boo
I have not figured out how many days I will do this. But I am starting with 3 days of DD and UD. I am still reading the long thread on this. |

Well I am really flip flopping again this month on what my plans are. I was again going to try to JUDDD the potato hack but yesterday I just wasn't hungry so I never had the UD. This never happens without potatoes. it was a MD again. My DH has also joined me on the hack so I am 100% on potatoes for the next few days.
ing that my metabolism forgives me for this!I feel kind of odd posting my weights on the weigh in thread as I am not JUDDDing now, but posting it keeps me accountable so I hope it is ok if I post it here for the days I am on the hack. Thanks! 01/01 PDD 153.8 01/02 UD 150.4 01/03 PDD 151.4 these potato DD's are really keeping my appetite down 01/04 MD 150.0 had 3 potato meals 01/05 MD 149.4 Last edited by Babsbabs; 01-05-2013 at 10:46 AM.. |

Babsbabs, please post away! I'm glad you are seeing a loss EVERY day! That's awesome and really motivating! I will finish today's planned potato day, and see if I will continue for 5 days. I wanted to do atleast 3, and we will see how it goes. Having this cold has taken my appetite away considerably! I wonder if a few potato days around TOM with help with the bloating??? I am supposed to start mine any day... We shall see...

Having a cold would slow me down too. Lots of vitamin C in potatoes but your body might need a more balanced diet especially with TOM approaching to get better. The appetite loss could be from the potatoes as well as from your cold. I know I have no appetite at all after a few days of potatoes. I am happy about the weight loss everyday right now. I think last time I did the hack my weight loss worked out to about .8 pounds a day. It will be interesting to see what this works out to. I am also curious to see how fast it comes back on again. One of the things I love about JUDDD is that even though the weight comes off slowly it also comes back on slowly. I am hopeful that if I go right back into JUDDD rotations afterwards that the weight won't rebound. I guess I'll know by the end of January.
For PUD I was at 1420 cals (they should be 1720) with 2 potato meals and one regular meal. For my potato only UD's I was only able to get to 800, so really more of a MD. Handy to know when I am back to JUDDD as it would make a really easy way to switch my rotations. Last edited by Babsbabs; 01-05-2013 at 10:45 AM.. |

Thanks Nancy! It's good to see you. I have been maintaining until I fell off the saddle in October.
I am undecided today, without finishing that long older thread, about just eating potatoes at will for 3-4-5 days, or doing the UP, DD rotation. I'll post tomorrow and let you know how I ended up. I tend to think about just eating potatoes until no longer hungry is the way to do it. Now it's time to go do my little workout. |

Today is DD anyway, tomorrow maybe I will start with potatoes for breakfast, and small snack around lunch time, then regular dinner for UD. Then Monday DD another PD.
I really think that by sticking to normal UD/DD rotations after this the the weightloss should stick! I'm hoping that this will help me stick to my UD #'s as I usually don't have a problem with the DD's!! |

![]() I had one medium potato today so far, and will see if I can stay with them as a DD, and if not, then I will just eat potatoes for 3-4 days. I love them, and cold was awesome. But I am not sure about going 4 days. I believe I can make 3 days. |

I am doing it for two weeks! At least I hope so.
By the way, is anyone eating sweet potatoes and losing? I would love to add them but frightened it may stall any loss. At the moment only eating cold potatoes with salt, pepper and vinegar. I did add a little full grain mustard today and I do drink diet 7up and chew some sugar free gum. Edit: Also wanted to add that I am trying my best to do rotations. My first up day was only 800 but today (9:40 pm here at the moment) is around 1250 so far so hopefully this will help. Last edited by WJS; 01-05-2013 at 12:40 PM.. |

WJS- 2 weeks is a lot of potatoes! I am just doing what you are doing cooking wise except I have been adding some garlic hot sauce to my potato, malt vinegar and salt meal and heating the potatoes. I plan to only do this for a couple more days so I am not really worried about variety. Lots of good cooking ideas here but I haven't tried them. I am noticing that the weight is only coming off my waist doing this and am hoping that things will redistribute later. Are your pants getting loser in the waist?
I am interested in what you find out doing the hack for that long. |

Babsbabs, unfortunately I don't see a difference in my jeans yet.
I decided to do the two weeks after reading about it on the forum Marks Daily Apple that Ouizoid mentioned in the original post about the PHD. I just hope I am not one of the few that it doesn't work on but I am determined to stick it out unless I just see no results after doing it for a week or so.By the way, the garlic hot sauce sounds amazing! |

Well, count me in. After two weeks of vacation I gained a bit, managed to lose most of it before Thanksgiving but since then I've been off and on and I'm having a hard time getting back on track with cravings galore. From what I've read this hack seems to help get those under control and that's what I need most right now.
Today was day 1, a DD. No breakfast and for lunch I had boiled potatoes with malt vinegar.....very yummy! For dinner I made the potato/chicken broth casserole. Equally yummy. Total calories was 513. Dh brought home pizza too....about 30 minutes before my dinner was done. But I stayed strong! LOL I could have eaten more but I've kept busy and now it's almost bedtime. Tomorrow is an UD and I'll be gone from morning until mid afternoon which I hate. And there will be food including sweets. I don't usually eat breakfast but I'm thinking of trying the hash browns in the waffle iron trick first thing hoping I won't be hungry enough to cave when everyone else is eating. I can't imagine eating a potato cold or I'd just bring some with me. Hmmm. Wondering if I'll be able to get all my calories in. |

KathyL. Good luck over the next few days!! I was not able to meet my UD calories by potatoes alone. I know some add a dinner at night to get there... While others skip rotations and just eat potatoes. To each their own I guess. I tried to meet the UD and did not want to force it.
Let us know how it goes!! Also, I couldn't imagine potatoes cold before I tried them, not too bad. My fav is cold with A1. I may need to try some with pickle juice! Last edited by Truffles; 01-05-2013 at 08:53 PM.. |

maybe it's being sick and Tom My weight was down but now up after upday. So I will official weigh tomarrow I hate being sick |
