WOE: Intermittent Fasting
To much to fast?

Just looking for some feedback! I just weighed myself and I lost 4.8 lbs. for the week. With a BMI of 38.9 is this ok? I'm concerned I'm losing LBM.

I'm eating my calories according to the calculator on UDs and I fast on DDs. Basically zero exercise this week as I wanted to see what my body was doing with just the diet. I think I will definitely have to eat more with exercise.

I've wondered about this too-since November 7th I've lost 16 lbs on JUDDD (on top of the 7 I lost from October 14-November 6 doing lc). While it's fun to lose so much, so quickly, I've wondered if the speed in which I'm losing negatively impacts me in some way

my opinion is that if you are eating your UD calories, getting in enough protein, you are less likely to lose LBM with this diet than with any other diet. Feasting every other day helps you preserve your lean body mass and lose fat.

Awesome loss! Congratulations!

I agree with Ouizoid. We've had several report that they've seen muscles they didn't know were there, even without exercise. I'm just starting back to the gym, and don't increase calories for my exercise, but I'm going really slowly for now.

I have noticed my arms seem sort of scrawny, but that's most likely just because they used to be covered with fat! I've lost around 110 pounds so far and don't feel any weekness or lack of energy.

There are a few studies about modified alternet day fasting ( same as JUDDD just a scientific name ) . These studies said lean body mass is maintained in fact it actualy
showed a verry slight increase even without exercise.

WOE: JUDDD/PHD, LC now that my BG is getting weird
Start Date: JUDDD 1/1/12 + LCHF 12/1/13 (controlling diabetes)
The first week is a total wild card. My memory says we have had everything from 0 to 8 pound losses reported. Soon after that, weight loss usually finds a steady pace.

Delta, I would not panic if this is your first week. The male body (an assumption I am making based on name and avi) usually seems to thrive on IF. You may hit and safely keep a faster pace than ladies report. I agree with you - you are probably going to have to tune your eating when you reintroduce exercise. But, I would not suggest panicking unless you continue to lose lots and quickly as the DDs go by.

Mom23kids, if you have lots of energy and feel good, you are probably alright. But, if you are feeling tired, stressed ... beyond what is expected during a holiday season ... then I encourage you to review your caloric intake for DDs and UDs. You might want to pull UDs up a bit and see what happens.

I use one of those scales that say it can measure body fat and muscle. I know they are not the most accurate way to go but it seems to jive with the calliper testing I had done by a coach a few times so I believe it works to some degree. Anyway, what I found when I started JUDDD is that the first few weeks I lost quickly and I lost fat & muscle but then the following weeks I lost fat only and my percentage of muscle mass went up. After following JUDDD for about 6 months my weight loss stalled but my body measurements kept getting slowly smaller for several weeks which I interpreted as improving body composition which also was showing up on the scale as increased muscle mass. This is what I have found with JUDDD but I am not sure if it works the same with everyone. I can certainly understand being concerned with losing muscle and it is difficult to know what is happening with weight loss.

The best way to prevent lean muscle loss when on a deficit is to strength train 2-3x a week. Not intensely but even just do one body part a day. With this WOE, you have a huge advantage because feeding/fasting triggers your body to burn fat!
If you read around the forum, you will see that many people lose inches way before they lose pounds on the scale!

Congrats on the great loss!! I am sure you will continue to see such success in other weeks as well!

I lost 65 pounds in about 9 mos and do not feel that I lost muscle. If anything, I found muscles I didn't know I had. I guess they were just covered by FAT!

I think it's normal in the beginning to lose a lot fast, your body is not used to the new WOE so the weight goes fast.
