Stayed up late and read The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks. Not her best book, but it was ok.

I went to the library last week and came home with a booty stash. So far I have read:

What's Your Poo Telling You ( No, not a kid's book)
Why We Get Fat and What to do About It

As much as I love Harlan Coben, I cannot recommend his latest novel, "Six years". Beyond trite and apparently hurriedly written. I was rolling my eyes and skipping through the last part of the book...plus, the Kindle price is ridiculous at nearly 15.00.

Finished "The Panther" and it was a fairly predictable thriller. Not my favorite genre, but I did want to be able to discuss with my brother.

Listening to "Gone Girl" and just picked up "The Tender Bar" from the library. A friend HIGHLY recommends this memoir and so far, so good.

I adore thrillers. It's hard to find well-written ones though. I will have to check out what you're reading, Cindy. You always have such good reccomendations.

Just finished a YA romantic fantasy novel that is part time travel, part X-Men, the Hourglass, by Myra McEntire. It was a solid start to a new series and I'll defnitley keep reading the series

Next up is a YA retelling of the fairytale, Bluebeard, called Strands of Bronze and Gold, by Jane Nickerson.

Finished Pearl by C.E. Weisman. It's a debut book and pretty good. (I have no idea how to describe a book!)

Just started Cry Into the Wind by Othello Bach. True story of her surviving the Depression. I've only read the first chapter and it's one that grabs you from the get go.

Ended up abandoning Strands of Bronze and Gold-writing style was too stilted for me.

Starting a contemporary romance this afternoon that sounds like a lot of fun, Don't Mess with Texas, by Christie Craig

Ok, took a detour because my library hold of Sweet Surrender by Maya Banks came in. Read the whole thing this afternoon and it left me feeling a bit let down. I loved her Colter's series so much, because her characters were so endearing. Erotica pretty much follows the same storyline and what makes all the difference is the character development. Sweet Surrender's characters did not stand out to me though. The Fifty Shades trilogy has gotten a lot of flak, but whether you loved them or hated them, the character are seered into your brain and you don't forget about them anytime soon lol (different author). Unfortunately, this wasn't the case with Sweet Surrender. It's the first in the series and I won't be reading the others-I actually don't know if I'll ever read another one of Banks books, her erotica scenes are well written, but that's not enough to carry a book with weak characters and plot holes.
Ok, book whine over lol.

My flak with the Fifty Shades was the constant "oh my"'s, the "holy ef"'s and "holy s"'s - so unnecessary to me. I remember thinking - in the first book - if she says any of those once more I'm gonna scream.

I screamed a lot.

Started my volunteer job at the library, shelving books. My fears that I'd be setting aside every other books was for naught today, as I shelved in the children's department. Whew! The other volunteer and one of the librarians told me it's a real danger.

I'd love to do this some day!

Read Don't Mess with Texas today and was really disapointed with it

Taking a break from romance and starting a horror/zombie book tonight, Devil's Wake by Sfeven Barnes and Tananarive Due.

So I actually found a book I was dissappointed in.......Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire. I loved Beautiful Disaster and was so excited for the new one......it was re-written for Travis's POV..........but I am mad because basically I paid for Beautiful Disaster again.....the new book gave really nothing new and really I already thought Travis thought about half of this stuff anyways......She copy and pasted and switched a few things around and charged $7.50 for a new ebook......mad mad mad............

Just finished two audio books.

The Tender Bar: a memoir. NYTimes reporter who writes of growing up on Long Island and being raised by a single mom. His absent father was a popular DJ, so he could listen to him on the radio, but never saw him. The men in his life were his uncle and the regulars at the local bar. The book is about the life lessons he learned at various stages of life.

Gone Girl: story of the husband reporting his wife missing. Told in point/counterpoint style with his story beginning on "the day of" and her's beginning years earlier when they met. From the moment the police arrive on the scene, they clearly suspect the husband of murder, but where is the body? Definitely a worthwhile read.

It's by Gillian Flynn. If your library has Overdrive for audio books you can download via that. The audio book is read by two different people, one for his parts and one for her parts. Both are excellent readers.

I'm reading another classic, "Up at the Villa" by Maugham. I'm enjoying it and it's a quick read if you have access to it (probably a free Kindle download--we had it in our library).

Return it to Amazon. If you haven't had it longer than 2-3 days you can return it. Helps a lot if you make a mistake or dislike a choice you made.

Go to: manage my Kindle, and see if there's an option to "Return for Refund". I have done that many times when I started something and realized it was not something I would enjoy. Thank goodness for it!
