How often do you take measurements?

I haven't taken my measurements since Nov 2011 -- that was when I started to stall/involuntary maintain. Surprisingly, after taking them today, I only increased in my waist/tummy area. Everywhere else is pretty much the same. I'm thinking maybe once a month (I used to do it weekly) And, have you guys noticed a real decrease overall on JUDDD.

Thanks
Arlene

I would get too frustrated (as a slow loser) to do measurements often, especially since I wasn't especially confident that I was measuring in the same place every time. I was measuring once a month, but now I'm just measuring every 10-15 pounds lost (i.e., every 2 to 3 months), so see where I lost the weight. I'm more comfortable measuring change in size in terms of clothing fitting more loosely--or actually buttoning up, if it's the next size down.

I was trying to measure once a month, but somehow got off track, and I realized just the other day that it was in August the last time I measured - before I started JUDDD! I need to measure again! I'll either do it 12/31, before my UD evening, or maybe early January once I've lost the holiday bloat!

Thanks -- I think I'm gonna quit measuring and go with the clothes. Less stress. Thanks for your input!

I rarely measure- with a tape measure. The one I have is 40 inches. When I started I was more than 40 inches at hip, waiste, bust- but don't know exactly what. I feel that I am very inaccurate when I measure so I do prefer to use clothing as a guide. I've definetely shrunk out of clothing when the scale showed little movement.

I just measured (First time since the summer... Bust 36", waist 33", hips 37") I think if I do it an hour later it would be different- I choose clothes!

I started measuring after it being suggested many times, thinking it wouldn't ever show much change. However, I have steadily lost 1 in. a month since I started tracking. And without losing all that many pounds...very pleased.

That's perfect!! I think measuring tells more than the scale, but I would be interested to know what others think. I have not varied in going down, measure-wise, since Sept. (albeit, slowly), but have had lots of ups and downs on the scale.

I measured once, with the intention of measuring monthly, but I honestly just forget. I also feel that I wouldn't do it accurately either.

I have a dumb question but I've always wondered...when you measure your waist, are you supposed to measure by your belly button? or the smallest part of your waist?

OK, I'll keep doing once a month and see if there is a difference!

I do the smallest part of my waist -- don't know the correct way. I figure if I try to measure the same place every time, I'm ok.

Not a dumb question at all. I've read to measure about an inch below the navel. We're all built so differently. For me, right about at the navel is my smallest part, so that's where I measure. After all, isn't your waist supposed to be the smallest part?

I measured the smallest part and at the belly button. AND I measured from the base of one of the girls to the smallest part of my waist (hard to do and pretty inaccurate, but over the year my waist 'dropped' about two inches).

I measured weekly because it was so amusing. At one point I lost 11 pounds - apparently all in my legs . Looking over the last year, I deflated in sections (like a balloon animal going, going, going.

I also used just too small clothing (agree that is more accurate given the way I measure).

I am pleased that I am losing regularly in my waist and hips, at the same rate. My waist is usually the first place I lose significantly. I never measured my thighs, but I can tell that they are smaller because my pants are looser in that area. I measure my chest across the breast (around the nipples, lol), which is more difficult. I tried asking bf to measure me and he said my waist was 48! I said, WHAT?! I had a brief moment of panic that I had been measuring incorrectly all along, and then saw that he had no clue what he was doing and the tape measure was hanging off the side (the part that's supposed to touch the other side of the tape), lol. Whew!

I measure every month. It helps motivate me as I can see where I am losing fat. The tape measure also shows the lost size before it shows up on the scale for me so it keeps me from being discouraged. I also measure the smallest point of my midsection as my waist measurement and then take a another measurement at my belly button level as well. Clothing would work well too I just like the data especially when I am needing proof that things are going in the right direction. I am actually kind of interested to see where my gained weight is after all this Christmas eating so maybe I just like data.

LCG- that is so funny!

I put on something that unexpectedly fits me and grab the tape. I haven't noticed a big difference in a while, so have quit. It seems like it would be a good idea to measure the first of the year, when I start my new weight chart. I measure only waist and hips.

When I started I planned to measure once every month, on the 1st of each month and I have done so.

I have seen some shrinkage but not as much as I had hoped (I always seem to expect too much!). I've lost just over 17 lbs so far in 12 weeks and have lost 2 inches off my chest, just over 2.5 inches off my natural waist, 2.75 inches off my lower waist (around belly button), nearly 2.25 inches off my hips and 1 inch off one thigh and 0.75 inches off the other thigh.

That's really good WTS!!! It's inches, not feet. One inch equals a lot of weight loss, so I think you're moving in the right direction. At the rate I'm going, it should take me nearly a year to get to goal and I want to have lost 10 inches in the areas I measure (plus others, lol). So at a rate of one in. per month, that's about right.

I didn't measure at my highest weight (207), so probably have lost around the same amount you have.

I think if I measured from the base of one of the girls to the smallest part of my waist, my waist would have 'dropped' about 5 inches. Gravity is a wonderful thing!!

At some point, I started measuring once an month, and I'm so glad I started doing that. I really love to see what's happening. It's been especially valuable a couple times when the weight loss wasn't spectacular, but the inches went anyway.

The point is to get smaller anyway, isn't it? The scale is not the be-all, end-all. If your measurements are going down, you are getting smaller.

I measure once a month. Sounds weird but I measure 1st thing in the morning on either the Saturday or Sunday (whichever is after a DD) that follows TOM. I figure that way my body is pretty much in the same stage with the same hormones everytime I measure...

Thank you Librarygirl and wildflower

definitely! I should not feel unhappy about my progress so far because I've lost weight and inches on a plan I find so easy

I am not sure what I prefer, the scales or the measurements... hmm I think I'll say measurements. I don't tend to feel it so much in clothes because I always stick to stretchy stuff so they kinda shrink with me. I do have a pair of jeans I try on every now and then though.

Speaking of jeans. I went to a second hand store yesterday, don't know if I should say the name, and bought a $2 pair of size 10 jeans - just so I keep trying them on and see if they fit!

I totally prefer measurements: they are what the world sees.

Scales are interesting and important - they tell a lot about the body responds to different foods and different amounts of food. But, during one six week period I lost eleven inches here-and-there and went into a smaller clothing size ... and the scale dropped like a pound.

Measurements are real. Scales are weird.

So true, Nancy...scales are weird!

BTW, I jump on the metal monster first thing every morning and usually look forward to the bounce but I've stalled for a couple of months. I measure myself at the start or end of each month depending on my DD's which is when I change my stats, too. I figure I have something I can claim then.
