My son did that for a while...he doesn't do it anymore.
He used to get nosebleeds *all* the time when he was little;
we found out (after his Tabasco kick, and after he started getting nosebleeds again) that taking a spoonful of Tabasco is a good remedy!

Crocodile, emu, kangaroo, turtle.
Vegemite and avocado sandwiches.
Lamb's brains.
Snails.
Green ants. They tasted lemony, just don't eat the head

My least favourite food is over-cooked zucchini, Mum used to boil the life out of it when I was a kid, so I didn't eat it for many years. I learned to eat it raw in a salad, or stir fried.
So this year my sister serve me some baked zucchini, and all those gagging feelings came back again 33 years later!

Really? I get nose bleeds a lot in the winter, but I'm not sure I could do this. My acid reflux has just about been cured by JUDDD, but this may be asking for trouble.

PJ- any idea of the science/reason this works?

*no* idea...cayenne in general is supposed to work well for nosebleeds, but sometimes people are more likely to have a bottle of Tabasco around than a jar of cayenne powder.

Since my son liked to eat it off the spoon anyway, and since his nosebleeds started up again after he'd quit doing it, it was the easiest way to get cayenne into him!

I'm finding some information from The Google that cayenne works externally to form blood clots & stop bleeding; it can even be applied to topical wounds. But taken internally, it prevents blood clots from forming. I've taken it for lowering blood pressure...it really worked!

I lived on Magnetic Island when I was a kid. (an island off tropical north Queensland).
We had Green ants everywhere, I used to pull on the clothesline and send them flying. One day we were told you could eat the bum. Pick up green ant without getting bitten, bite off the bum. They were good for when you had a sniffle

Well you learn something new everyday... I will pass I think... I doubt I'll run across any green ants in New York, but good to know if I ever go to a magnetic island

(note to self... google magnetic island)

I did this once. ( can you see me turning green as I write this?) And I won't again. I was tricked into eating Rocky Mountain oysters or for the Canadians, Prairie Oysters. Yep, silly 'ol me- I actually thought they were oysters!

Once, I bought a chocolate bar at a little tourist shop. I was halfway through the bar when I looked down and saw it was swarming with live little wiggling white worms.

Yep PJ is correct! I take a cool cayenne & garlic capsule every day. It is excellent for heart issues and especially good for respiratory ailments as well. Google it! I love nature's health. If you have tummy issues, specifically, ulcers or GERD, make certain that you use the "cool" cayenne capsules.

No eating tabasco from a spoon for me. I once watched a drunk college boy take a bottle and kill it one time. Wondering what he was thinking???

This isn't really exotic. Probably strange, but really yummy- if anyone is struggling to hit UD numbers this treat would do it.

In my 20's I liked to eat peanut butter and strawberry frosting sandwhiches on potato bread!!!!!

Don't knock till you've tried it! Not recommended for DDs.

Oh. No.
Seriously!
Here in NY you can find just about any type of cuisine, but I bet it would be hard to find these... the green ants would be harder...

ETA: I had to google that for sure... wish I didn't...

I thought I was well-traveled, food-wise, but some of you have definitely had some exotic food!

I love sweetbreads (beef glands of a couple different types)-- my chef friend makes them like the best nuggets ever...

I love sushi of all types, but have a real love of Uni (sea urchin roe). hmmm... what else--- I've been eating escargot since I was a kid (lived in Quebec, so a lot of french food... the garlic butter with bread is to DIE FOR).

Oh, I just had a weird one. Don't judge though, ok? I was just trying it, at a restaurant, where I didn't chose the menu.
Horse. served tartare (raw, with awesome seasonings).

it was good, but I don't see the need to eat it again. could've easily been bison or very lean beef, IMO.

So, i guess that's my most unusual food... though I've had some normal foods in interesting preparations

Puffer fish.

I have enjoyed - and sometimes closed my eyes and swallowed fast in the name of politeness - a lot of strange things. But that was my personal 'you have got to be kidding' moment.

For you, sungoddess:

Oysters
by Baxter Black (Cowboy Poet)

The sign upon the cafe wall said OYSTERS: fifty cents
"How quaint," the blue-eyed sweetheart said, with some
bewildermence.
"I didn't know they served such fare out here upon the plain?"
"Oh, sure," her cowboy date replied, "We're really quite urbane."

"I would guess they're Chesapeake or Blue Point, don't you think?"
"No, ma'am, they're mostly Hereford cross...and usually they're pink.
"But I've been cold, so cold myself, what you say could be true
"And if a man looked close enough, their points could sure be blue!"

She said, "I gather them myself out on the bay alone.
"I pluck them from the murky depths and smash them with a stone!"
The cowboy winced imagining a calf with her beneath
"Me I use a pocket knife, and yank them with my teeth."

"Oh, my!" she said, "You animal! How crude and unrefined
"Your masculine assertiveness sends shivers up my spine.
"But I prefer a butcher knife too dull to really cut
"I wedge it in on either side and pry it like a nut!

"I pry them out. If they resist, sometimes I use the pliers
"Or even Grandpa's pruning shears if that's what it requires!"
The hair stood on the cowboy's neck. His stomach did a whirl.
He'd never heard such grisly talk, especially from a girl!

"I like them fresh," the sweetheart said and laid her menu down
Then ordered oysters for them both when the waiter came around.
The cowboy smiled gamely, though her words stuck in his craw
But he finally fainted dead away when she said, "I'll have mine raw!"

I used to be adventurous in trying something new.....Nowadays, not so much. I've tried:

Alligator
Squid
Chocolate-covered grasshoppers
Deer heart
Escargot
Rattlesnake
...None of these were appetizing to me. Now, weird food combinations are another story! I love PB & Pickle, grape jelly on omelettes, salt on watermelon, and melted PB on a cheeseburger.

I can't imagine what made you try PB on a cheeseburger, lol. I love salt on watermellon too, and I put salt AND pepper on my canteloupe. Mom and Dad ate it that way, so it stuck.

mmm...canteloupe! Haven't tried the salt on that yet. But yeah, that peanut butter cheeseburger was something that is on a local watering hole menu, and it sounded pretty darn good. You can even get it with bacon.
