I remember when I first lost weight (back in '94) I pulled on a pair of old jeans - jumped up on the bathtub (only way back then to see my lower body in a mirror ) and got tangled and almost fell - the bell bottoms were quite huge!

Later, my daughters said I should have saved my old bell-bottoms, that they became "retro" and they would have loved them! but instead I sadly goodwilled them and bought some new clothes!

Bell bottoms in 94?! Do you mean 74? I think the flair and boot cut type jeans came out in the late 90s and I still love them. In 94 I was wearing those unflattering straight leg jeans, and stirrup pants.

well ... I said they were OLD jeans!

In those days, I afforded very little in clothing, so what I had lasted until it could no longer be repaired - and then it was usually made over into something for the kids! So the jeans could well have been left-over from the 70s In the 70s, I was still (relatively) young, had some nice clothes - and I likely stuck these away in a box and forgot them until '94!

I remember the body shirts - they actually stayed tucked in! And they covered a too-big bustline! I loved them! Now all my tops are designed to wear over my pants, tucking them in looks funny ...

And the stirrup pants were always neat, except they tended to bag at the knees (I love today's spandex).

My cousins always tell the stories of their younger days in the late 70s/early 80s when gymsuits or Jane Fonda body suits were popular (no poppers, it sounds like you climbed into them then shrugged into the arms and shoulders), particularly teamed with the sort of trousers that were so tight you practically had to be sewn into them and were capri length so that a lot of women wore tights (pantyhose) as well.

They said that anyone who disappeared for a visit to the Ladies was gone for a minimum of 40 minutes while they had to disassemble and reassemble their ensemble. It was either that or survive on ice chips for the evening.

Bodysuits! OMGosh I haven't thought of those in ages! I was heavily into gymnastics in elementary school (mid/late 70s) and we had to wear them (aka leotards) for our performances. I remember my mom got me the kind with the crotch snap, thinking it would make it easier to potty, but I wouldn't wear them. I was justified when at one school-wide performance another girl did her flips and SNAP - it all came undone, no underwear underneath, in front of the entire school, teachers, parents. Oh was I glad I didn't cave and wear those things!

I loved, loved my (one) body suit when I was about 10-12 yo, lol. I thought it was the coolest article of clothing ever! The snaps were awesome.

I had some white stirrup pants with a seam down the middle, and I wore them with gold flats.

Remember when the silk gym suits were popular as everyday wear? Lmao!

I've just remembered one of my cousins telling a story about wearing a leotard and one of those all-in-one boiler suits that used to be a fashion item and how impossible it was to use the average cubicle in a public washroom/restroom. She said that you had to keep removing the clothing in stages and knotting bits of it to make sure that the sleeves didn't drop into anything that you wished to avoid or trail on the floor.

Apparently, one of my cousins was pernickety enough about her appearance that she travelled around with very large bulldog clips so that she could fold her sleeves and clamp them together (and the plackets of the front) rather than knot them and end up with creases.

OMG I loved the stirrup pants. I used to pull off the Full House style and wear something like a purple shirt, black stirrups, purple socks and black high tops. You couldn't tell me I wasn't fly.

LOL OMG I hated the stirrup pants but of course wore them anyway just to be cool. I remember the layered sock look too. And the side ponytail and banana clips. I had some stone washed jeans with little bows at the ankle. OMG I made my mom take me to 4 different stores to find those stupid jeans LOL

I remember once going to an outdoor restroom - filthy but absolutely necessary - and finally taking my bell-bottoms off and putting them in my purse, then struggling with a "body suit" (in reality, an old tank swim suit) ... Life is easier these days!

All the talk of stirrup pants made me think I was in the wrong thread!

I actually have a waist! I'm kind of surprised as everyone says you lose around the middle at the end, but I seem to be losing there first?

Great NSV, Scarlett!! I love being able to wear clothes that I liked (or needed to wear), but grew out of.

Anon, I've lost from my waist first too. I usually lose upper body and waist first anyway, and I guess it comes off first from where you gained last...My thighs were always a problem area, as were my hips, and they are slimming down too now.

(A lot of us have been on the JUDDD board for a long time, and we frequently get off subject in threads, lol)
