Please tell me I'm panicking for nothing

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping that you all can talk me off the ledge. Sorry, I'm not really on the ledge but I think I might not getting the true "JUDDD Magic". I keep losing and gaining the same 3 lbs. from one UD to the next DD. Its so frustrating. I mean, I weighed myself 4 days ago and I was 3 lbs heavier. That was on after an UD. Then after my DD, i was 3 lbs lighter. I was so happy. Then after my DD, I was 3 lbs heavier again. Then after my last DD, i was down again 3 lbs. Today, after my UD yesterday, I'm back up again the same 3 lbs. Seriously???

What am I missing? I don't want to keep going up and down the same 3 lbs. I mean, please tell me that someone else has had this experience and that I'm not the only one that is destined to not have ANY diet or WOE work for them.... sorry. I'm feeling pretty melodramatic right now. I apologize for my antics...LOL :dunno:

How long have you been doing JUDDD? I've always been a slow loser, so I sincerely think if JUDDD can work for me, it'll work for 99.99999% of the overweight population.

Maybe you need to give it more time? :dunno:

Also, it is important that you take your measurements, so that when discouraging times come, you'll have something other than the scale to look upon. Over the last 2 months, I've only lost 2 pounds, but I've lost 2" on my hips. I'll take inches off over poundage any day.

AsmallerME 12-17-2012 07:50 AM

How much do you weigh or need to lose? Are you sure you are eating the right UD/DD calories? If you give your age, height, and weight, people can double check that you figured your numbers out correctly.

And lastly, no you are not doomed. It can take a few weeks for the JUDDD magic to set in for some people. In another day or two, you may notice that your weight moves down but you repeat the up/down weight fluctuations just in your new range. It is a slow process for some people. Hang in there!

KeirasMom 12-17-2012 07:51 AM

I agree that it takes a while for some people to start losing with this WOE. Also, if you post your age, height, gender, and weight, one of us would be happy to verify you're using the correct calories.

Are you counting both days? Some people do fine not counting on UDs while others need to count. Are you sticking closely to the calories given to you by the calculator? Have you gone from low carb to high(er) carb? Do you have any medical issues you're currently dealing with? We need more information to get you an answer. :)

:goodpost: sss everyone.

So glad you came to ask, we can only help if we know. I am sure you will see a sustained drop soon but all the wise ladies above are right.

If you really want us to help we need more facts. It is often only a small thing that make the difference.:console:

Interested to know your details so we can see where you may be stalling, or encourage you that everything is normal. :)

Hi Everyone,

Thanks! I've been doing JUDDD now for only a week. I know, I know...I'm jumping the gun. Ugh. I'm female, 38 and I weigh 262 lbs, Ugh...that was hard for me to type.

I eat 500 cal on my DD's and I haven't counted my UD's, but honestly, I haven't overeaten, in fact, I haven't really been hungry to overeat.

I think I just expected to see the same type of numbers that some of you all have been posting.

I think I'm jealous! LOL...

Sorry to be a pain, but how tall are you?

You need to count your UD too. Many, many people truly don't think they "eat that much" until they start tracking it.

Librarygirl 12-17-2012 08:22 AM

One week, lol. Some people lose up to five lbs in one week, but you shouldn't panic if you are not losing that quickly. I have only lost 5-6 lbs in 5 weeks. It will happen as long as you stick to your rotations. I wouldn't do anything differently than what you are doing now, until you have been JUDDDing for at least 4 weeks. Some recommend tweaking your calories after 2 weeks, i.e., lowering DD calories, counting UD calories, but to me, that's too soon. I'm sure others will chime in to help!

Kissa 12-17-2012 08:22 AM

And strangely the reverse is also true. some people don't eat enough on their UDs. That can slow things down too.

I was referring to post no 9!

KatinaZ25 12-17-2012 08:24 AM

Sorry, I'm 5'5

jenericstewart 12-17-2012 08:27 AM

The main reason this diet works for me, I believe, is that I'm keeping my metabolism stoked by the UD. To get the most benefit of this diet, I'd suggest that you make sure to eat the calories that you're allotted using the JUDDD calculator. By not eating enough, you are actually cutting your nose off to spite your face (is that an outdated phrase?).

In the beginning stages, I felt like my UD calorie number was really high, too, but after awhile, my body accepted it just fine. :) You will be happier for it. Hang in there. I seriously doubt it won't work for you. I'm a lot older than you, and I started out almost the same weight you are now. So I understand your wish to lose quicker, like "other people" do, but slow and steady wins the race. And the JUDDD woe is really quite freeing once you get the hang of it.

Kissa 12-17-2012 08:28 AM

So I get 461 and 2306.

You should be fine with 500 for another week but do try to count a couple of UDs, just to see what number you get.

Thank you! Ok. I'll keep track of my UD's and see if that makes a diff. I know I'm probably panicking for nothing, but it feel like this up down up down thing was getting a bit crazy.

See, I got that too, but I thought that 2306 was way too high...but I'll try counting to make sure that #1 I'm getting there and #2 that I'm not going over.

Thank you.

I think your panic with JUDDD is to be expected when you're not a fast loser. I've been JUDDDing for 4 months, and I think I'm just finally relaxing. :D

Well, honestly, it would be a heck of a lot more fun if I could lose as fast as I gained. :hyst:

LoCarbGal 12-17-2012 09:12 AM

Katina, I think you're doing just fine. I agree with several of the posters, that you need to make sure and get all your UD calories. I was just about exactly your weight (I'm an inch shorter and a few years older!) when I started to do JUDDD, and right from the beginning I ate all my UD calories, and did well. I think it's important to keep your metabolism really burning by feeding yourself well on UDs.

Your body is really still adjusting to this new WOE, so it's a little early to panic (although I totally understand your feelings!) Just keep doing the rotations, learn what works for your body, and you'll start seeing weight loss, inch loss, clothing size loss!

deedee 12-17-2012 09:17 AM

If you've only been doing JUDDD a week and have gone up and down the same 3 pounds, it sounds like you actually lost 3 pounds in one week? Which seems great!

I like to give any WOE 2 months to really gauge it's effects. JUDDD loss seems slower than something like Atkins for most people, so I try to keep that in mind too.

AsmallerME 12-17-2012 09:28 AM

Honestly, I think the main thing is that you need to count on both days. For me, the main reason I must JUDDD, is that I think I'm not eating much and when I count my calories, I am easily eating 2500+. Seriously. So JUDDDing gives my low carb diet the structure I need.

When I previously JUDDDed with success, I read about people here not counting on UDs. I figured what the heck, and stopped counting for a week. I believe that was my only week where I didn't lose or gained. So please count and try to get 2000-2300 calories on those UDs.

sdjade 12-17-2012 10:20 AM

Katina - I think you got some great replies here so I just wanted to say HI and welcome to JUDDD. :hiya:

You need to be patient (I know, not easy) and give it time to work. Also, don't forget to take your measurements! I often find that I lose inches before the pounds drop off. Use these boards as inspiration and ask as many questions as you need. I still come here almost every day and I have been JUDDDing for 8 months now.

svenskamae 12-17-2012 10:37 AM

You've gotten great advice here. Some other things to remember are that many things--unaccustomed exercise, TOM, bathroom issues--can affect our weight from day to day. Maybe you'd do better getting weighed just once a week or once every couple of weeks, so long as you stay on plan. I try to keep myself from weighing myself too often, because I can drive myself crazy, and look for progress also in terms of my clothes getting looser.

Katina, I follow Dr. Johnson's recommendation of weighing only once a week, and only after a DD. For me, seeing a weight gain after an UD would just be too demoralizing.

Knowing the weight loss is slower with this plan (from what I've been reading, some people lose only 1 lb per week, and others only see weight loss after eating this way for a few weeks), and Dr. Johnson's own assertion that it may take a couple of weeks for the sirt gene to kick in, it sounds like it may take a few weeks before some may see weight loss.

Do you think if you give it more time, and perhaps not weigh daily but weekly, and only after a down day, you might feel more encouraged? Good luck with whatever you decide!:hugs:

KatinaZ25 12-17-2012 10:50 AM

Thanks everyone. Ok, I'm panicking. I'm not going to weigh myself everyday. Alhtough its going to be tough. I think I might wait till this coming weekend to see how I've done on Saturday and then hopefully will see something.

But, either way, I've comitted to a month, at least. So, maybe it is just my body is adjusting. You've all given me great advice. Thanks so much!!!

Hang in there. It will work with a little more time. I do rec. counting on UD too. Its can be a pain in the tush but worth it, I think. You can so easily eat too little or too much. Well, I can anyway.
