Anyone take Mobic?

I went to a new rheumatology doctor on Tuesday to have some tests run. I know I have osteoarthritis, but I've been having lots of pain in numerous joints so she did a full arthritis profile, xrays, and lots of other tests. While we are waiting for lab results, she prescribed Mobic to be taken at breakfast with food.

Not a problem on UDs, but on DDs I usually skip breakfast. Today is a DD and I ate breakfast, but I hate using those calories so early in the morning.

To those of you that take Mobic, when do you take it? Taking it with lunch would work out so much better for me. What do you guys think?

Have a wonderful day!

I think it would be fine to take it at lunch, I think it's all about taking it at about the same time each day, and with food. You should probably check with your doctors office just to be sure.

On the other hand, Mobic is one of the only things I seem to be allergic to

I haven't taken Mobic, but I do take several prescriptions, some of which need to be taken at the same time every day. The only meal I'm guaranteed to eat is dinner, so I take my "take with food at the same time every day" pills then. I take my thyroid meds in the middle of the night because they have restrictions on when and what can be eaten within a certain number of hours of taking the meds. My supplements, I play by ear. I take a beta blocker before bed, and now I just got prescribed a calcium channel blocker, so I take that first thing in the morning.

It's getting to where I need a calendar just to know when to take what pill!

More of us probably know it as Meloxicam as brand name (Mobic) is more expensive than some insurance will cover. Well, mine anyway, but yes- I just got re-stated on Meloxicam on Wednesday. I need to take it with food so I take it at bedtime since that is the only time I eat on DD. I can handle it with as little as a 150 calorie snack. So far. In the past the stomach "burning" only started after months of uninterupted use at 15mg a day. Back then I would cut the dose to 7.5mg for a few days, but I was eating more then. I told him I would start with the 7.5mg for now and see how it goes after a month. So far so good! I sit up for at lease 20 minutes which annoys me since it's bedtime and I'm tired, but is probably a good practise with this med.

Seriously this is the story of my life:
First round 5:30am, then 8:30am, then 1pm, then 4pm then Bedtime (usually around 9pm)
I also wear a phentynal patch which I have to change every 72 hours

Talk about rediculous- I'm only 36!
Thank G-d I got the blood sugar under contol- that required an injection 2x per day...

Mine is the Meloxicam too. I just put Mobic cause it was easier to spell!

My doctor started me on 15mg once a day. I've started taking it with lunch, but really supper might work better for me, because I hurt so bad at night that it keeps me awake.

I'm worried about getting the stomach burning. So far I haven't had any stomach upset with it, but it's only been a couple of days..

Carly, do you know if it takes awhile for it to build up in your system to feel relief or does it work something like Advil and just relieve the pain for a certain amount of hours and then it wears off until you can take it again?

Thanks

Peggy

That is my experience. My doc would like me to take 7.5mg 2x a day. I believe the max dose is 15mg. I use to take all 15mg at bed time in the past. I think this time I will do 7.5 twice, but first I'm going to see how my stomach does- especially on DD. I was on it for about 3 yrs the last time. I only got the burning a few times during those yrs so I think it happens after prolonged use- not right away.

I take Meloxicam also. One 15mg pill per day for spinal arthritis. I take mine at bedtime because it causes severe drowsiness for me. I've been taking it for about 5 months now. I started out taking it in the morning, but couldn't tolerate the drowsiness, so switched to bedtime. I notice that if I forget to take it (happened a few times since I started it) that my arthritis pain is severe the next morning, so try not to miss a dose, or you will know it. I don't think it needs to "build up" in you system, though, because if I do miss a dose, then take it the next night, my pain level is better by the next day. For the poster who said she was only 36: I am only 37 and feel like an 80 year old woman most days

AS I set here calling in my Meloxicam Generic for Mobic (says on my bottle).
The reason I know this medicine can hurt your stomachs, other than my own experience with it.
My grand, other had the kind of Arthur that tuned her fingers, toes, spine all different direction. I was terrible, she she suffered so much. She is gone now.
Some kind of Arthritis caused her stomach to ulcerate. t was terrible. So Im very scared of this medicine
I'm suppose to take one 15mg everyday.
I just last week started the every day dose. Got brave!
It so helps my shoulders, elbows.
Please eat with. His medicine, don't take with just liquid.
Iin time your stomach- esophagus will HURT. No fun.
A friend of mine also that's this medicine.
She taught me to have it in the middle of your meal. A real meal, not broth please.
I take mine at evening meal. So far so good. I call it hiding the pill, silly huh.
Plus I take at the same time to help damage Dr. Script of Prilosec - generic Omeprazole 20mg- two tabs.
Carly I hope your night time snack will be enoug to prevent damage to your stomach.

Drowsiness as a side affect. Show how we are all so different.

I don't notice that symptom.
I do take a Zertec 10 mg with pm meal caz it makes tired.

I have been taking mine in the middle of a meal also. Although on down days, it's a really small meal.

I bought some Prilosec OTC to keep on hand just in case it upsets my stomach. So far no stomach pain.

I feel some relief while on it, but I can sure tell the minute it wears off.

I'm 57, but wih this pain, I feel decades older. I go back to the rheumatologist next month and will find out the lab results then. In the meantime, I'm just being thankful for the little bit of relief that the meloxicam is giving me.

Have a great day!

I was walking with a cane at age 30 and a walker at age 31. I had my spine fused when I was 32 and don't need either, but am still in terrible pain most of the time. I thought the weight loss would help, but sadly it has not. I'm glad I weigh less though and it certainly is better for the rest of my health.

The Meloxicam/ Mobic hasn't been upsetting my stomach, but I've been a little hungry the last few nights when I took it. Probably just a coincidence. It doesn't make me drowsy. I just take it at night since that is when I eat.

Carly, you are so young to have to deal with so much daily pain.

You do look fantastic! You're one of my inspirations!

Thank you Peggy.
How is the Mobic working for you? I feel some benefits but I probably would do better with 7.5 twice a day. I had forgotten from the last time that it makes me bruise easily. The first few just started to appear. I probably get more bruises than most for 2 reasons 1) With all the other pain medication when I bang my knee or elbow I don't feel it that much and I sleepwalk. According to DW I walk into doors, walls, bedposts and never skip a beat.

It really helps with the pain, but just for a 6 or 7 hour window. After that, the pain is back. Sure wish it would work for longer than that. I haven't noticed any bruising or side effects yet. I used to sleepwalk when I was a little girl. My mother had to put locks way up high on the outside doors, cause I was always trying to unlock them. I haven't done that in many, many years, although tonight I am taking Ambien for my horrible insomnia for the very first time...so we'll see if I do anything weird. I told my DH that he needs to sleep with one eye open tonight to make sure I don't try to drive the car or something!

I slept well for about 5 hours and then started in the tossing and turning and aching thing again. But hey, 5 hours of sleep is a lot compared to what I was getting. No adventures!
