I have chronic constipation. On a good day I might go once every 2-3 days. It's not uncommon to go 5days though. I have learned a lot from the School of Natural healing about some of the main culprits of constipation. And I have learned to take it more seriously. If you can't go, then you can't eliminate waste and toxins. I actually get hives from getting backed up. And headaches.
I am taking an herbal supplement called Dr Christopher's Lower Bowel Formula. It isn't just a laxative; it helps heal the entire GI tract. Over time and with a corrective diet, it will be possible to a healthy bowel without the herbs. In other words, your body doesn't get dependent on it. It actually gets better. |

That is really interesting Finme. Thanks.
I don't have this problem at all fortunately but I am sure a lot of JBs will be interested in this. |

Thanks Fin! I know someone else who needs this. So far, I haven't but I made the mistake of taking gluc capsules in the beginning and learned that is not the right thing to do.

The potato hack helped me lose, but bloated me and gave me gas from hell!
And not "ease out" gas either...the kind of immovable air bubbles I literally had to do yoga poses to get them to budge!![]() ![]() Magnesium, acidophillus and CO help me when things don't want to move. |

First ingredient in Dr Chris LBF is cascara sagrada.
My understanding is that this alone is very healing. |

I never had this issue until recently. I have no idea what that is about, but I don't care for it. Not one bit! It seems the less I eat on DDs the worse it makes the back up

Yes, I believe that is it too, Carly. Although I just said I'm not having a problem, in fact DD's are a little bit less moving.
I'm eating a huge bowl of cabbage right now so I hope it resolves by tomorrow. Last edited by Librarygirl; 01-29-2013 at 05:10 PM.. |

The best thing that I've found..was the coconut oil...I have to be careful...and not take too much..but it has been a blessing because the dd's really stopped everything.

Me too guys. Atkins always made me constipated. This isn't as painful, but I don't go for days on end. It usually isn't uncomfortable, but I'm conscious that it's in there and that it may be slowing down my scale losses. I wonder if the rest we give our digestive system just makes it harder to crank it back up. Who knows!

I took magnesium last night, but no luck. CO stalls me out something terrible so that's off the table for me.

my personal choice is fresh veggies, but if that isn't your thing a half cup serving of Fiber One original cereal has like 14gms of fiber and only sixty calories. i think it tastes really good, but some find it cardboard-like. the first time i tried it i was in high school. i love cereal and thought it was great, so i ate almost the whole box. Not really out of character for me, but NOT a good idea with such a high fiber cereal! that being said, having two servings a day will surely keep you regular.

I think, if you don't eat enough calories, it will always be a problem. Even if your diet consists of only fiberous veggies and nothing else, if you are at goal weight, you probably wouldn't "go" very often. I think we are meant to eat fat/protein and vegs to balance us out digestively and otherwise.

My nurse practitioner recommended the vitamin C cleanse for constipation. You can look it up to find out how to do it but basically you need a good vitamin C powder (I found some at a health food store) and you drink some in water every 15 minutes until you go. It'll um, clean you out, so make sure you don't have to go anywhere for several hours. The good thing is that you don't get cramps or anything like a laxative. Then there's a way to figure out how much you should take on a daily basis for maintenance.

Extra large, sugar free, vanilla ice coffee at Macdonalds. The large has 120 calories, don't know how much the extra large has. Guess it's the caffeine and cream combined that works. Works for me, even if I don't need it to. Probably isn't the healthiest solution though..

Another coconut oiler here. I have about two tbls every morning in coffee and add another dose in the afternoon if I need it (normally that isn't very often). I took painkillers after surgery a couple of weeks and had to up the CO consumption.

Pain killers can definetely cause constipation. My system is very used to them now, but after my spine surgery and 5 days on morphine it took awhile for things to work like they should!
