One Month Mark and a Question about UDs
I've been thinking about UDs a lot today and how to handle them. Sorry this is a bit of a ramble-thinking out loud here
I am at the one month mark with JUDDD, (well one month, four days ), and I'm really trying to figure out my UDs. I only count calories sporadically on UDs, but lately the ones I have counted seem to show that I've been eating over my UD calories. I always start out with a food plan for the day, but then things get added. For instance-today my goal was a little over 1,700 calories and I'll be ending the day at just over 2,000. (if I stay with my new, updated plan ). It's all pretty healthy calories-fish, ground beef, two salads, eggs, cheese, ground flax seed, almonds etc. etc. I did have two sugar cookies (with sprinkles ), but still, overall healthy-just a lot of calories Soooo, I've been trying to figure out if I should continue to eat over my UD calorie allotment/not count calories/just enjoy these days and probably start to see a slow down on the scale. Or do I buckle down, start counting calories on all my UDs, and keep up the steady loss (lost around 10lbs my first month on JUDDD!). Since I'm already almost at the halfway mark for my weight loss goal, (18ish pounds to go to goal), I'm leaning towards continuing to eat bigger calorie amounts on my UDs, and then really focus on keeping my DDs low. Does anyone else consistently eat over their UD calorie allotments? If so have you completely stalled, or do you still lose a bit every week? I've had it in my head from the start that I want to be at goal weight when we put our sailboat in the water for the summer, which is Memorial Day. So, not counting the rest of December that leaves me 5 months divided by 18lbs, or a little less than 4lbs a month to hit goal. Is it possible to eat all higher UD days and still lose that kind of weight every month? What to do, what to do ![]() Last edited by mom23kids; 12-11-2012 at 01:47 PM.. |

I think if you are losing, then not worry about going over. You can alway adjust when things slow down.

I agree with Jem. Your losses are really above the norm, so it is working for you! Congrats on your success!

I would stick with it just as is. You are losing well.
You may find you need to rein it in closer to goal, but you may be one of the lucky ones. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! |

Thanks everyone for the input! I feel like I've been breaking the 'rules' by going over on UDs, but it seems to be working for now, so I'm going to keep going with it

Sara, if it ain't broke....
I ate over, under, and around my UD calories until I hit a stall. Reviewed what I was eating, checked the website and reduced both DD and UD calories by about 100. Then continued to eat all around on UDs (just with a lower 'center'). I sailed through the dreaded 'last ten pounds' at the same pace (2 lbs/week) I lost most of the rest.JayMar, I did at first. Felt like menopause. I did the shivering put the jacket on, sweating take the jacket off, reverse the pattern, dosey doe for months. The over heating part did get better as I adjusted to the WOE. The shivers calmed down only after I started maintenance.

I have consistently shot past my UP day cals by 100-300 and still lost just fine with my DD cals averaging 500. Now in maintenance I keep my DD's pretty low & scoot those unused cals over to UP days. It gives me 2000+ cals of guilt-free, delicious, and sugary/carb filled goodness! (MAJOR sweet tooth). And I have always done set UP days, four a week, no problem. So if what your doing us working for you, then carry on! If it stops working, then you can always tweak. Oh, and I had to push thru two stalls but the scale finally started moving again. During that time (3 weeks each time), I didn't make any adjustments because I realized my body just had to adapt to the weight loss. And sure enough, it resolved itself. So try not to panic immediately if that happens. Most likely the scale will start going down again. And yes, 4lbs a month is very realistic--I lost 4-5 every month. Good luck!
