Tomorrow DD I'm gonna try...

not eating. Just having liquids: my morning mocha, chicken broth, Tomato juice, coffee, tea, LOTS of water. I'm doing really well, but I want to make sure my weigh in on Friday is a good one. Plus I just want to see if I now have the ability to do it. Give my body some healing time without the stress of digesting.

Who knows whether I can actually do it, but like the Little Engine....I THINK I CAN!

:jumpjoy:  :jumpjoy: << my new found energy!

adillenal 12-04-2012 12:39 PM

You can do it. I have done so many times. I think just liquids does give the body a rest.

sorenkkg 12-04-2012 12:51 PM

You can totally do it, and if it doesn't work out, you haven't done anything "bad", ya know?

Even though I totally haven't had enough fluids today, I feel ya on the ENERGY! I just rearranged my whole dining room (planning a brunch for FIFTEEN people, sit down, omg).

Some dds I'm ravenous, but the last 2 or 3, I've been totally fine on just water/tea all day, and could take or leave dinner. I took it, but easily could've just kept up with maybe some soup.

Have fun with your experiment!
:) S.

Thanks Adi and Soren, I'm gonna give it a shot. Even though I've lost weight with LC, I know at times I was still eating too much. Since I've been on JUDDD
overeating feels yucky... so far. I know that doesn't mean I never will....I'm taking one day at a time. When you learn about the whole digestive process and how that can effect your overall health, a day here and there without any solid food makes sense to me.

In the evenings on some DD's my mind wanders to food but I think its mostly a bad habit and not because of real hunger. One thing I was able to do on LC was stop binging at night. But I would have some kind of LC snack or dessert sometimes. So I think its just a habit that I think is getting less and less an issue.

Judd really has changed the way I think about food. I'll always like food, but I don't love it anymore. I don't obsess about it and I don't think I'll die if I feel a hunger pang! This is saying A LOT for me. Oh....how I could eat eat eat in the past.

Thats for your advice and encouragement. Having this forum has been HUGE in keeping on track.

gotsomeold 12-04-2012 04:35 PM

I think everybody who does not have physiological reasons that mean they have to eat solid food should try a liquid fast day from time to time. Or even a complete fast day.

It gives the body a break. It invokes sirtuin proteins big time for many people. Most importantly (to me) when a disaster interrupts your life and all you have time to do is grab the water bottle, you know hunger is not an emergency. You know you will be able to think and function and concentrate on the things that are really important.

I look forward to hearing how tomorrow goes!

Crazy PreK Teacher 12-04-2012 05:37 PM

I tried to fast yesterday, but ended up having such a bad headache. I ate half a sandwich at 6:30 pm...headache was gone in 30 minutes.

I think I may try to do protein shakes tomorrow...sounds like a good plan for me.

Rayne_W 12-04-2012 06:54 PM

After worrying I wouldn't meet my UD calories today, I went over! :annoyed: Tomorrow I'll be shooting for an all-liquid DD myself.

angie1 12-04-2012 06:59 PM

I've done full liquid fasts before, with water, tea, coffee and protein shakes. I find it easier to plan and you feel really good the next day.

Let us know how it goes for you! :D

JayLynn 12-05-2012 02:31 AM

Since beginning this new WOE I've considered buying some protein shakes but don't know what will taste okay. Years ago when I tried them I thought they tasted awful. I'd rather drink water than some crappy concoction in a can....LOL

What is good nowadays? I want it to taste just like a milkshake! :hyst:

Carly 12-05-2012 05:55 AM

I don't know if any canned ones will taste that good but you can make some low cal shakes in your blender such as:

1/4 cup canned pumpkin
1 T plain FF Greek yogurt
1/4 cup unsweetened vanillla almond milk
1 T walden Farms 0 calorie pancake syrup
Some cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, splenda
1 t gluc powder
4-5 ice cubes

Blend till smooth and creamy- I haven't done this since summer so don't recall exact calories off hand, but that's easy to figure out.

There have been many threads in the past with shake recipes. If I find any I'll link them here.

Eieio 12-05-2012 06:07 AM

Yes u can! It's process.
Speaking of my own up and down 15 # last few years.
Keep busy- if u get to stay home- and stay on too much like I do sometimes.
Go somewhere fun u like-get ur mind off food a few mins, hour.
I want to have. Thread about this very thing.
I hope to post soon.
Keeping our minds activity.
U can do this, we have to.

adillenal 12-05-2012 06:24 AM

I buy the Pure Protein shakes in aluminum bottles and I like them. I get them in a four pack at Wal-MArt. I think they are 120 calories. Great for when I am somewhere that I can't take my own food.

Carly 12-05-2012 06:44 AM

Here is a version of my recipe

This is my DD pumpkin shake:
1/4 cup pumpkin- 20 c
2 Tbs sugar free maple syrup- 5-10 c or 0 cal walden farms pancake syrup
1/4 cup vanilla unsweetened almond milk- 10 c
Davinchi SF syrup (just a little and I use different flavors)- 0
Cinnamon- 0
Nutmeg- 0
ez-sweetz 2-3 drops- 0
1 Tbs Walden Farms marshmellow dip- 0
1/2 tsp gluc powder- 5
4-5 ice cubes- 0

High estimate 40-50 calories

Blend for about 1 minute

sorenkkg 12-05-2012 08:50 AM

I think the brand I get when I'm in the US is the same as Adi -- Pure Protein, in a can that looks like a bottle (?)-- lower in cals, tastes pretty good!
I get them at Target, only b/c I'm traveling and the store is really near the hotel I stay at :)

Also, they come in a 4 pack so it's not a huge commitment. DON"T SHAKE THEM, there's a bit of gas in them (freshness, I assume, b/c they're not carbonated) but they will explode a bit like a soft drink if you shake them :p

JayLynn 12-05-2012 12:09 PM

So far its going very well, but its still early here.

I've had my morning mocha and 3 cups of water. Not feeling hungry at all. I usually don't get very hungry until later in the afternoon on DD's anyway, so I'm waiting to see what happens as the day goes on. I really think I can do this. It will be an amazing accomplishment for me. I don't remember EVER not eating food for a day.

Staying busy with doing my xmas cards and cleaning around here getting ready to decorate.

JayLynn 12-05-2012 03:04 PM

Still hanging in there. Its 3 p.m. here and I'm fine. At noon I had 6 oz of tomato juice and some black coffee. And I just had a cup of chicken broth. It really hit the spot.

I made some SF jello just in case I want something sweet later. Its not liquid but pretty darn close! And very low calorie.

I'm staying busy...I've got a lot of cleaning done today. I'm amazed at the energy I have today. Where's that coming from??? :jumpjoy:

LoCarbGal 12-05-2012 10:41 PM

Yes, the energy is great, isn't it? I got my deep cleaning and decorating completely done in 2 days. Last year it took probably 5 days, lots of breaks, and I needed help getting up and down the step stool to hang. Not this year! Tonight I went to Mom's - my lil bro and I started doing her decorating and I think I wore her out - I was a whirling dervish. Got quite a lot of it done though. I think we can finish tomorrow, easily!

JayLynn 12-06-2012 05:58 AM

I DID IT!

No eating just drinking. It got pretty hard round 6 or 7 but I had more broth, and then some SF cocoa. Drank LOTS of water. Definitely a DDPP day...haha.

But I DID IT! Not sure if I'll try it again. I like having a little something in my tummy on DD days. keeps me from thinking too much about food.

I'm getting ready to have a nice breakfast. I am hungry, but not as much as I thought I would be.

LoCarbGal 12-06-2012 06:16 AM

WTG Jan! I'm not sure I'll ever try that!

JayLynn 12-06-2012 07:50 AM

Thanks LCG :)

I doubt if I'll do it again. It got harder as the day went on.

So far it hasn't shown a big benefit on the scales. My official weigh in is tomorrow so we will see.

I'll try and eat all my calories today, so will have to have some nuts and CO because I don't want to eat a lot today.

Librarygirl 12-06-2012 08:02 AM

I am not drinking enough water. There I said it. Today I will drink at least 60 oz of water. I don't think I want to do a liquid DD, however. I tried that with the shakes and they seemed to make me hungrier! Maybe one day I will...never say never. :)

Good job Jaylynn!

JayLynn 12-06-2012 08:12 AM

Thanks LG :)

I've always been a big water drinker. I always have my water and my chapstick no matter where I go...LOL

I'm very happy I got through yesterday. I had a great breakfast this morning. I used to eat, on LC, eggs, bacon, Flax muffin with SF jam for breakfast along with my morning mocha. Now it really fills me up and I can't finish that same amount of food.

sorenkkg 12-07-2012 01:57 PM

I think, IMO-- don't make anything harder than it has to be. Do what you like, so if you want to experiment around with all liquid or whatever, by all means. But, the plan is pretty simple. Eat, don't eat as much, eat, don't eat as much. Enjoy ;)

re: amount of food. I agree-- I'm good with just a bit of bacon now, not the 6pcs I used to eat (plus 3 eggs, etc, etc). Though I do like a big bowl of cereal ;)

S.

JayLynn 12-07-2012 02:06 PM

I've thought about having cereal again, but I'll wait until I'm down some more. I low carbed for so long I don't want to overdo it. I hope that as the weight continues to come off I won't be so darn carb sensitive.

Librarygirl 12-07-2012 02:09 PM

I am still working on a DD plan. Broth doesn't do it, protein shakes don't do it, mini meals don't do it. SIRT is nowhere to be seen. :D :D Hope I can do a fat fast tomorrow and it will work. :)

I think in the beginning I was so excited at being able to eat whatever I wanted eod, that I lost sight of also having to FAST eod. :D :D Even with the prospect of "tomorrow", sometimes "today" is unbearable. I hope I can work through this and become a born-again JUDDD. :D

How did it go? I've done a liquid day a couple of times, and it never seems to do anything more than a regular DD on the scales. :dunno:

sorenkkg 12-07-2012 03:11 PM

LG-- a few things that I've found that help me with DDs:

1) don't eat. I've found that if I keep busy as long as possible, I don't need to eat till dinnertime. Once I do eat, I seem to want to keep on, if what I have isn't satisfying. So I plan the 1 dd meal to be pretty good-- lots of protein, veggies, lower fat. I usually get some dessert too, generally a fruit or berries, maybe with some walden farms marshmellow "dip" (0 cal). Then more water and go to bed early.

2) caffeine. I really don't usually have any, I'm super sensitive (wait till one day I get all hopped up and come here and post! it's a doozy...) BUT on DDs, I can manage a mug of black tea, or a whole liter of green tea (I like my tea iced, usually).
I find it VERY helpful-- both b/c it's a lot of fluid, and the caffeine just helps me feel less hungry and more mentally alert.

3) super low cal snacks if I totally cave-- pickles, olives, beets... just a couple bites and I'm good to go.

I've tried a lot of what you said you did, and in the end, the above is what works best for me. Everyone's got to experiment to find out, but don't let it defeat you... you can totally rock the DDs!
:) S.

Hi Christina,

I didn't weigh yesterday morning, I probably should have like I had planned. But instead I weighed today, my regular weigh in day, and am down another 1.5 -- was hoping for more, but I'll take it.

We went to a nice buffet yesterday and I didn't overeat but I was having a little of everything I wanted. Probably didn't help.

I'm having a good DD today so I'll probably peek at the scales in the morning.

Carly 12-07-2012 03:31 PM

I totally agree with Soren, for me if I just delay eating anything- including cream in coffee I'm fine! I have just now started sipping my first 18 calories of the day and it is almost 6:35pm. I will drink my half packet of diet swiss miss and have a bedtime snack at 9:30pm or so. I'm doing a regular WLM DD today because my weight was way up today. Probably inflamation from my procedure as I'm quite uncomfortable (well in pain, but I won't claim it), but not gonna play around with maintenance levels till this evens out. It's doable- really. The hunger passes- it's never last for longer than 20 minutes. Time it if you have to. Plan on your next down day to delay eating and after 20 minutes if you can't make it have a 30-50 calorie snack ready. I'll bet you can delay eating longer than you think.

I think the "don't eat" suggestion might be the best one. Even though I felt satisfied yesterday with the high fat, by bedtime I was wanting to snack until I fell asleep. I know I went way over my normal DD calories, and today was up .2 from yesterday! After a DD, no less. It scares me that I won't be successful. Tomorrow will be doubly hard because my co-workers are bringing appetizers and sweets all week long.
