I hear you about not wanting a bunch of gains...I re-joined TOPS Jan. 20th, and have not had one gain yet on record...BUT () I did have a .2 & .6 gain on my home scale...I track all my weights...so those 2 meetings I did NOT attend.

I attend TOPS also. If an UD falls on my Monday night weigh-in...I do eat very lightly...usually a protein shake (110 cals.), a light salad/ranch dressing for lunch, have 1/2 of my water down by 1 pm, and then eat high-calorie when I return home around 8 pm. Seems to work okay for me...

Thanks for responding, Crazy PreK Teacher. I am also a teacher and find it very easy to not really eat on DDs since I am so busy anyway. We eat with the kids at lunch but either I will not eat or just have salad. Some of their lunches are kind of gross anyway and my students are messy eaters so watching them eat kind of makes me lose my appetite most of the time

I had looked for TOPS a few months ago, but there didn't seem to be any meetings near by. I'm in Westchester- where in NY are you Kismet?

I've introduced myself already with questions but today was my third DD and it didn't suck. Actually, it was pretty manageable, I mean, I was hungry but not overly so. I do ave 2 questions.

1. How do you all incorporate MD's? Is it something to do or not to do?

2. About how much weight on average do you put on after an UD? I feel like its 1 step forward 2 steps back and know that this part of the process but I want to just make sure. LOL.

Katina

Ps. I'm really happy to be here.

Glad you're DDs are starting to get better

1. I try and avoid MDs-the magic with JUDDD is the wide distance between the calories on UDs/DDs, and when you throw a MD in it messes that system up. I just do two UDs if I have to get off of my rotation schedule. However, for some MDs work for them when things come up, so alls you can do is experiment with them and see if they help/hinder you

2. I've actually stopped weighing myself after UDs-while I know the scale is supposed to fluctuate up, it was still getting to me So now I just weigh after DDs and I'm much calmer about weigh ins But either way-the best thing to do is weight yourself on a regular basis and keep track in the daily weigh-in thread (a new thread starts every month). The coolest thing is being able to see where you've started at the first of a month and where you're at, at the end of the month That's when you really see the JUDDD magic!

When I was weighing myself everyday, my weight usually fluctuated between a half pound-2 pounds up after an UD. I did have a few though where I stayed the same or even lost after UDs.

I used to live in Westchester and have lots of family there. Right now I live in the Mid-Hudson Valley (between Albany and NYC). I was so lucky to find a TOPS meeting less than 5 minutes from my house!

I hoping to stay away from md.
If it appends it happens. But hope to not plan it.

I had one MD so far since starting and it has taken me a week to get back to where I was before, so, for me, I'm going to try and avoid them when I can. You may do fine with them, but everyone is different. I was glad I did an MD just so now I know what to expect from them.

My last MD turned into a UD, and it was partially pre-planned. I guess I feel like it's better to fuel my body well, even 2 days in a row. MDs feel almost more like deprivation than DDs do for some reason.

I am not a lover of MDs, but accidentally learned in November that 60% maintaince level DD= MD.

I've decided that I hate MDs, and will likely just do 2 UDs when/if I need to change rotations in the future. I have no idea why, my mind just really rebels against them.

I agree totally- I truly hate them. I think I would feel less frustated by 2 DDs, as crazy as that may sound, than a MD, but I agree I would probably do 2 UDs over a weekend when rotations needed to be adjusted.

Carly, I remember you saying that you don't count calories on Up Days. I was wondering how you space out your meals/eat -- do you go by an idea of the approximate number of calories? low carb?

I used to calorie count years ago, and lost a lot of weight (40 pounds) but I got really obsessive about it, weighing everything, binge eating if I just went a little bit over, all or nothing mentality -- as well as focusing on the quantity rather then quality (eating chocolate for 100 calories instead of chicken etc). I ended up gaining that weight back and more .

I am finding that these tendencies are starting to come back with the calorie counting. ....and I really don't want to get back into that cycle .

I would love to not count calories at all (maybe do liquid fasts on DD and then not count UDs) . What do you guys think?

I don't count on UDs, but here is the thing. I didn't become overweight the typical way- such as overeating at meals, snacking, eating fatty or sugary foods. I became over weight from 15 years of a sleepwalking/eating issue. I have never really been prone to over eating- while awake. So, I didn't have to really re-adjust my eating habits accept contol/ eliminate the sleep eating and reduce my calories overall so I could lose what I have gained from sleep eating. From the end of Feb. 2012 till mid October we kept nothing in the house but a few DD foods so if I slept ate I could not do much damage. With the help of JUDDD I've been shedding the excess weight, but awake eating I really didn't have to adjust. We have been keeping food in the house since October when we had to stock up for the hurricane and I've been doing pretty well with it...I think.

So, my situation may be a little different when it comes to not counting UD calories. I don't do anything special when doing regular rotations. For this holiday week I'm doing Fast 5 since I don't want to worry about rotations, but ordinarily on UD I eat if I'm hungry- stop when full and don't eat if I'm not hungry. This works for me, but I suspect if it were not for the sleepwalking I probably never would have struggled much with my weight other than a small amount when my ability to excersice was impacted by my spine condition, because I use to be an avid runner and enjoyed exercising, so even for many of the years of sleepwalking I stayed thin by watching carbs- at that time and enjoying 5-8 mile runs.

I don't know if this was helpful- I hope it was, but I think a lot of people need to count UDs at least for a while. I don't know- after the first week or 2 of JUDDD I just stopped.

Yes that completely makes sense! Wow sleeping eating --- I could not even imagine how frustrating that must of been to gain weight without your control!

I really wish I could just not overeat and listen to my body, but I have been brought up from a big family with big portions and not listening to my body signals. So eating a "normal" portion for me now seems like a "snack" lol. I guess I will stick to counting the calories! -- and when I lose all the weight I want, I can try not counting calories to maintain.

Thanks so much!

Yes, it was very frustrating. I will never really know what I ate and obviously didn't enjoy it since I was asleep. I hope this is something that I am putting in my past, but it still occures from time to time. I would like to return the house to mostly empty after the holidays, but may not be practical during winter this year. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the sleepwalking monster is leaving me be and hopefully he isn't going to find another poor sole to taunt.

I felt so Christmas morning. I spoke to DW about emptying everything after holidays and she agrees. Right now it's the only way to contol it and I'll do what ever it takes!

Well, we know it happened from "the evidence" (or should I say missing evidence- entire box of cookies ) on Christmas morning. My best friend says DW should just put locks on the cabinets, but we both got use to having all of that stuff out of the house and if DW had something stashed in a strange location I never went looking for it in my sleep. It's probably better for both of us. She really needs that stuff like a hole in the head so a fresh start for both of us with empty pantries in 2013!
