I have a question about exercise.
I don't mind exercising, and if I'm in the mood I really love it. Unfortunately once I break my routine it takes a few weeks to get back to it.
The actual question is how does one (specifically JUDDD) define 'moderate' exercise? Is that walking for an hour 3-5 times a week? If so, I'll do it and have a TON more calories to eat!!
And then gain some fitness back too

Sorry Carlye it doesn't really work that way. Most people overestimate the calories they burn during exercise. And moderate exercise would probably be more like a an aerobic class rather that an a walk, unless it was a serious out of breath power walk.

In addition after lots of discussion on this topic the consensus here I that unless you are doing spinning classes daily or training for a Marathon, it is pointless to take exercise, which is hard work and difficult to fit into our busy lives, only to go right ahead and eat back all those calories we have struggled to burn off.

So that is my two pennies worth, lol.

my penny's worth would be the same- do not add exercise calories unless training for an ironman or something like that.

Wow, you have your hands full! It does get easier as your kids get older-because you get to drop them off at school and drive away

Hey everyone. I'm returning to JUDDD after taking a few months off from all sensible eating choices. I JUDDDed from April to June or so. I lost about 30 pounds doing it. I felt great but then life got in the way and I made lots of excuses for myself. So I'm rejoining today as my first DD. I restarted Atkins last week and am firmly in ketosis, so I figured JUDDDing now should be an easy add-on.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Another noob checking in!

I'm kind of testing the waters and starting today with a dd (hopefully). So far so good but I've only been up 2 hours so I shouldn't get too cocky just yet. haha

I've been LC off and on for about 10 years. Lost 70 lbs, been yo-yoing back and forth with the same 20-25 lbs for the last 3 years. This is the most I've weighed in quite a while.

Last month Real Life took a big poop all over me and well, you know how that goes. I was in the fast lane on Bon-Bon highway. Not cool. Life is still hairy and being a big bully but I knew I had to get my food back under control or I'd gain all of my weight back and then some. Not. Gonna. Happen.

JUDD itself seems interesting. But to be honest, it's hard to find community as supportive as you guys seem to be so that was a huge selling point in the decision to give JUDD a go.

I'm gonna go poke around more in other threads. Just wanted to stop in and say hi.

Welcome Jentastic! You are so right about this being the most supportive community. Everyone here is incredible.

I'm still new to JUDDD too (on my third week) but it's already simplified my life so much. And I'm losing weight, while adding some carbs back into my diet. I hope you give it a try and are happy with the results!

Hi everyone. I'm going to try to start JUDDD again. I did great on it at the begining of the year but stopped when we tore out our kitchen to remodel it ourselves. I gained about 10lbs of the weight I lost. Then I went on a medication that has weight loss as a side-effect. I lost about 8lbs of the 10 I'd gained back. I'm off of that medication now and have gained back 2lbs. I want to stop that in its tracks and maybe loose a few more.

Because I'm still a decent weight for myself I'm not that motivated, which I think is a little sad. I need to kick myself in the rear now and not wait untill I've gained all the weight back to get motivated again. I'm going to do an UD today and my first DD tomorrow. I need to figure out my meal plan and go shopping. Wish me luck.

Thanks Kissa and Carly

I do have some quite strong views on exercise for weightloss, and they are exercising does not make you skinny, no matter what you might see on certain reality tv shows. When I was a gym bunny and in the gym 6 days a week I got some minor weight loss, but my running improved and my lifts increased.

I think the human body was designed to conserve energy. If back in caveman day we had to hunt/walk/run for 6+ hours to get a meal then we didn't want to be burning off all our energy stores hunting it down, carrying it back to the cave, and prepping for dinner.

I was surprised to see such a big jump in my calories from the calculator when I added moderate exercise. I'll get back to doing my treadmill intervals a few times a week, but not add extra calories back in. I'm carrying an extra 354000 calories in fat, I'll just burn some of those off instead

Hi everyone

I kind of introduced myself with some questions yesterday but wanted to check in here.
I started yesterday with my first DD and did great, I think... Only 560 for my first DD and didn't want to gnaw off my arm.

Someone asked earlier about exercise but my sleepy brain needs to ask again . I average 8 - 10+ miles per week (m-f) brisk walking. To figure my UD calories, can I safely say"moderate" activity, because I'm not sedentary but not an avid exerciser. Today I'm ending the day at about 1950 cal which may be too much..

On a good note, I weighed this am and was down 1.5 lbs from yesterday am

Hubby is bringing home some Angel hair slaw, broccoli slaw, stir fry sauce, laughing cow and some shrimp, so I'll be set for the next few DD's

I would calculate your calories at 20% WLM no exercise and start there. Give it 4 weeks at those numbers and then re-evaluate if necessary. Most of us have found that this is the most effective way to start and we can make adjustments if need be.

UD question. What do you do if you're not even remotely close to hitting your calorie limit? I'm trying to eat in an 8 hour window and times running out. I'm still several hundred calories off.

I don't do low fat or anything like that so I'm not exactly sure what my problem is other than I'm just really not hungry. It feels so counter productive to force myself to eat more when I'm on a diet. I thought UD's were supposed to be easy? lol

If you're within a couple hundred I wouldn't worry too much about it. I try to hit mine pretty closely, but others do okay with the odd lower UD.

Peanut butter's a great way to get calories in without overstuffing yourself. Butter on your veggies, cream, cheese, avocados, etc. I usually make mine up in wine.

Hello everyone! Just checking in. This week was better than last. I was down a bit at my WI on Thursday (I go to TOPS) but last week I pretty much stayed the same. I have to find some sort of system (rotation?) that works for Wed/Thurs because my weigh in is at 6pm Thursday night. If I have a DD Wed. then Thurs. will be an UD and probably if I eat 1800 calories before 6pm I will look like I gained a ton LOL (feel free to stop reading at this point if I am making no sense ) Also, if i have an UD on Wed. I don't think the loss will show by Thurs. night so I'm not sure what to do except maybe have a MD on Wed. and DD on Thurs then eat after my meeting? I know it might all even out in the end but we are all very competative at our meetings and I don't like having gains in my little record book! This week I will try to work it out since I will be VERY busy anyway and I think DDs will be MUCH easier when I'm busy! We shall see! Thanks for all the great info...keep it coming!

Yes, life is so busy, but it helps me not focus on food on DD!! Lol! Although, that also means forgetting to eat on UDs, lol! Yep, I'm homeschooling, so they won't be going away for a loooong time They're stuck with me! I love homeschooling so much. It's perfect for our family

Is TOPS like a Weight Watchers type meeting? Is it worth it to change your rotation every week to weigh less at the meeting? I have no real advice, but I think I'd probably just weigh myself the next day (or whenever the next day after a DD is) and enjoy the big difference! Unless there's a monetary prize involved.

I have never been to TOPPS, but have tried WW a couple of times years ago..I looked again at WW because of the advertising..and every time I checked their meal plan I thought...I would starve on that woe...it works great for some people, but, if I had not found this place and JUDDD, I was ready to give it up completely..I would guess that TOPPS is more of a support group and you don't have to follow any one plan of eating, as WW does..I knew a woman years ago who lost like 100 pounds...but as soon as she stopped eating the WW way..she gained it all back and more..and sure. you hear similar stories with all diets...I know that doing the JUDDD will work for me,..and even if I have to do it the rest of my life, it seems to be something I can live with..all the success stories here do help me stay encouraged...thanks , everyone, for your posts.

I still go to WW meetings with my mom (even though I don't follow the program)
My weigh-in days are every Saturday mornings,

so for this to work with JUDDD and my life...

I am doing M-W-F DD and then weekends one UD and one MD (whatever events come up)

I lost 20 pounds doing this!

Yes, TOPS is a support group. There is no eating plan but they do have a weigh-in. I showed a loss on Thursday night when I did around 1000 calories on Wed. and then fasted (except for coffee and a snack, I think it was a clementine) until after getting on the scale on Thursday night around 6pm. It was not bad at all and I will try it again next week. Hope everyone is having a good weekend! I only work 4 days next week then I'm off til Jan 2nd!
