My Farewell Post

It is with great admiration and a bit of sadness that I leave you fabulous JUDDers. My intent with JUDD was to give it a two week trial run... and in those two week I have lost 4lbs. However, I have unfortunately gained a severe case of insomnia! The only thing that "cures" it for me is to eat the same caloric load every day. I am desperately in need of sleep, and nothing so far has "remedied" the situation. My plan moving forward with weight loss is to follow a healthy, calorie restricted diet that does not include grain nor dairy. I may even end up following the McDougall diet... which is basically a low fat vegan diet. It seems to have worked for many to reverse their heart, cholesterol, ect issues. I don't have any yet, but I am hoping to avoid any in the future.

Oh, TT, I'm sorry to see you go, but I understand why severe insomnia would not be good (especially for a student). I wish you the best in your very healthy-sounding new plan!

Good luck to you with whatever weight management plan you decide to follow.

Sorry about the insomnia issue.. some experience that, although when it is JUDDD related, it usually resolves itself after awhile. Like feeling so ill when you start a low carb plan that there is an actual term for it called *Induction FLU*.. but after a few weeks, it usually goes away too. (And, of course, women are hit with insomnia so much more than men, wouldn't you know! Don't know why.)

If your insomnia is merely early JUDDD related, you should be sleeping again with the advent of your new plan. Best wishes to you, whatever you decide to do.

Oh TT, I'm sorry to hear that. I suffer with insomnia, not brought *on* by JUDDD but it certainly has magnified it. Fortunately for me if I eat enough protein first thing in the morning it helps and I usually only am sleepless one night a week, which I might be anyway due to the pre-existing condition. You will be missed! Check in often!

I suffered alittle bit of it in the first few weeks on JUDDD but it seems to have sorted it outself out. Take care and don't be a stranger!

I am so sorry JUDDD was not the right plan for you TT! Keep trying different WOEs, you will learn more and more about how your body works and what you, as a complete person, need. And you will find what is right for you.

You are wise to begin this search at such a young age.

Also! Let us know how you are doing! Don't be a stranger!

Good luck as you continue your search for a woe that works for you On the sleep front-have you tried Melatonin yet? My husband recently started having sleep problems/severe nightmares. My mil told him to start taking it, as it was recommended by her dr. and it's working great for him so far. You can find it in the vitamin sections at the store.

I have tried everything under the sun... my old back ups of melatonin, chromium picolinate,... I would NEVER personally go the pharmacutical route, over the counter or not... so I have to resolve this with food. I have struggled with sleep issues for years, and the last few months prior to this was the best sleep in my life. Once I started JUDD.... well lets say that JUDD isn't magic for my sleep.

Often very high carb diets will induce sleep. McDougall is high starch/grain/carb so maybe it'll be helpful.
Good luck.

I hope that the approach you are planning works well for you, both in terms of weightloss and in terms of sleeping better. As mom23kids notes, you might benefit from taking Melatonin, and you might also try adding Magnesium and Theanine and 5-HTP supplements.

I just listened to a book on CD called "The Yoga of Sleep," which is aimed at helping people deal with insomnia. It's a bit new-agey, but it does have some concrete exercises and suggestions for people to do who struggle with insomnia. You might find something helpful there, too.

Edit: Oops, sorry, I see you posted about having tried supplements already, while I was writing this message. Good luck with the new approach you will be trying.

Oh nooo! I'm so sorry to hear this. I am thinking you must have already tried the "turn off all blue light" techie things for 1-2 hours before bed, same rising & sleep schedule routine stuff along with the melatonin suggestions, right? My DS had a bout with depression & insomnia with the above things helping us quite a bit. (although he sure hated it!) Wishing you the best girl! I so understand needing to get your rest, though. Hope you'll still pop in!

One of the beautiful things about JUDDD is how it teaches us so much about ourselves. You tried it and learned that, right now, it's not right for you. However, should you ever decide to try it again, it will be here for you like a long lost friend. I wish you luck with whatever plan you find that works for you.

We miss really miss you TT. At least you lost 4 lbs. Well done you.

I sincerely hope that the new regime sorts it out for you.

I am interested in the sleep promises of the Potato experiment. Not that I have a sleep problem as a rule. But it will be interesting to see if it helps some of our poor sleepers.

Do pop by to let us know how you are getting on.

I don't have sleep problems these last years but did before, and I will say, I believe I sleep 1000% better when my diet is balanced between the three macro-nutrients. Carbohydrate food is an important part of my diet and my feelings of well being, including being able to sleep like a baby apparently. Although I'm peppy during the daytime.

Hope you get your sleeping regulated again shortly. And hope to see you back here with us too.
