According to this:
Resistant starch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A slightly green banana has the most resistant starch.
However, I do believe the potato hack basis is that potatoes are more appetite satiating and that's why it seems to work best: less calories than eating bananas, peas or lentils.
Though I may give cold lentil salad a try - just cooked lentils, sliced green onions(or any onions), salt, pepper and vinegar.
Although I used to add green peas to mashed potatoes, lol and green peas are high on the list, too!

Have any of you done cucumbers on a potato hack? I'm on a DD today. I'm tempted to try a potato DD. Do you think it would hurt to have a thinly sliced cucumber in vinegar with it?

Not sure. I'd maybe eat the cukes between potato meals?

I'm going to have to show this one to DH. He absolutely gags if his peas even come close to touching his mashed potatoes.

Yikes, I'm sooo not surprised by the upturn in numbers this morning, I'm sooooo water logged. My face is puffy and even my fingers were swollen this morning and hurt. When my fingers hurt I know it's a lot. Ah well, I've got a half gallon of green tea at work with me and in going to drink this away! I'll look forward to tomorrow's number

I was busy this weekend and didn't have time to post the results of my first PDD on Friday. I lost 3.2 pounds but then quickly gained it all back during the course of the long weekend. I would like to try it again sometime this week but the hunger I felt the entire day and the fatigue weren't fun at all so I would need to figure something out.

I have been reading through this thread from the beginning and I have come across several posts that mention using the COOKED weight to figure out total calories for the day. Can someone clarify the right way to count calories on a PDD?

I used the raw weight to calculate the calories, however, the difference between the raw and cooked weight of my potatoes was 10.1 ounces! It may seem trivial but that extra weigh 10.1 oz. could be the difference between feeling hungry all day and feeling satisfied and would amount to approximately two extra pots. That's huge in my book!

Thanks! Those two extra taters will likely make a huge difference in my hunger level

Bee, if you're eating them hot - try eating them cold. Makes a HUGE difference to DH. He had a devil of a day when he tried eating hot mashed potatoes, but does really well with cold ovenroasted potatoes. Go figure!

Well todays first PH day went well. I felt a little weird around 2pm, but I really only ate 3 medium sized yellow potatoes, and maybe 5 of the little nugget size reds. I figure it's about 400 calories total for the day and I wasn't hungry at any time.
I may try to do this on DD's for a bit and see how it goes, I like the simplicity of it.
I was doing some reading and I may add a low-carb protein shake (the advantEDGE ones that are 100-110 cals) before bed, but at least 4 hours after the last potato meal.

From what I've read, sweet potatoes don't have the same satiety factor that regular potatoes have.

It's day 12 and I'm a little tired of fighting water. It is Tom (which is weird because with my IUD i never get Tom, makes me wonder if taters could effect that?) and all that but I guess it's a bit frustrating to have not lost anything for 5 days. We'll see what happens tomorrow and if it's not drastic I think I might go back to lo-carb for a week or two and then try the hack again. We'll see what tomorrow brings!

PH JUDDDing with a bit of a calorie cheat if needed. One day I was just famished and ate 700cals that day including 2 potatoes with 2 tbsp of sqc and 2 tbsp of picante with each tater.

Today I'm taking a weekend break to eat up on protein since surgery looms. I'm at a new post surgery low today.

L-- 4cups slaw mix, 2cups broccoli slaw, 1 cup spinach in 2 tsp bacon grease with g/s/p and 2 over-easy fried eggs

D--6oz ribeye
asparagus in brown butter
blue cheese wedge salad

So will be interesting to see if I gain weight from this. It's an UD today. And tomorrow will do a regular DD. Then Sunday will be another UD with meat and protein...then Monday will see about doing another 3-5 days of PH JUDDD.

(Trying so hard to make my "weight" at the oncologists on Sept 18 (my 51st birthday). I DO NOT want an ath-whoopin' from him on my birthday!

Holy Geez! Lol I said I would quit the hack today if the scale didn't move drastically - so it gave me a four pound loss! Yee haw! . 14.4 pounds in 12 days. Eeeeeee!!! I bought some GREEN plantains last night (thanks helpful ladies!) and some frozen hash browns to liven up the mix. I think after 12 days I might finally be getting a little bored with mashed potatoes. Not REALLY, but some variety might be nice.

Omgosh I also saw those fat free Pringles in the store last night and totally caved. I haven't had a guilt free potato chip in years! Granted, their chemical filled and scary but it's mostly potatoes and fat free and it made me feel like I was having a terrible treat. Also thank goodness Olestra has no ill effects on me .

Any hoo, here's my daily numbers, good luck to you all and happy potatoes!

Day 1 - 165.8
Day 2 - 163.6

Pooti, good job! DH and I have BOTH found that the UP day might move us up a mere pound or so, or not at all - and then the POTATO HACK DOWN days take it down another notch. So interesting, eating this way. We are LOVING IT!

Wow Char! Thanks. Moving up a pound is not a bad bounce at all. How do you eat on your UD?

From last night's menu I actually am down another 3 lbs! (Now I did have a bit of intestinal disturbance yesterday after lunch ... but not 3 lbs worth, right?)

I this weekend I will take a PH break but Monday will do a potato DD. Today will be a regular DD.

Thank you Babsbabs and Buttoni! I just posted my morning of Day 15 update and said goodbye to another 2 pounds. 16.4 pounds in total. I am thinking today will be my last potato day. I don't actually want to quit and I'm not even CLOSE to being tired of potatoes (pretty sure I really am a little crazy) but my husband and friends are a tad weirded out. They can take Atkins but just potatoes is a bit wild and they all think I'm going to die. Plus, I guess eating some vitamin A would be good for me anyways. I haven't been taking a multivitamin (I know, that's probably pretty bad but they make me vomit) and even I'm worried about the vitamins.

I want to confirm for you all that the sugar free hot chocolate never bothered me, I often had one a day. And yesterday I ate an ENTIRE can of those FF Pringles and still lost a pound. Also I was having 3-4 SF hard candies a day. No, this isn't a "re-set" for healthy eating like some use the hack for but when I'm on Atkins I have no problem with healthy eating so this was kind of like a treat vacation with the added benefit of weight loss. And, I like being honest with people.

That doesn't mean I can't come back to it though! Maybe I'll do Atkins for a week and then hack again. I'm REALLY curious about what the weight gain/loss will be like when I start eating lo-carb again. I'm hoping for at least a stall, lol. I hold on to so much water with this that I imagine I'll lose some with locarb.

With locarb we're supposed to eat high-fat but I'm wondering if maybe the first couple days back on I should count calories a bit? Going from zero fat to gobs of it seems like a recipe for weight gain. I don't know, there's so much guess work.

Day 1 - 165.8
Day 2 - 163.6
Day 3 - 161.4
Day 4 - 158.4
Day 5 - 158.0
Day 6 - 158.4

Wow, Lindystar I am amazed at how much weight you lost on the Hack. I do suspect that when I went off my 7? day hack I think that fat gave me weird stomach cramps. Nothing that slowed me down too much but wanted to mention that in case you find the same thing.

Thank you Babs, that is great to know, that way I won't think it's something else. I would have assumed the fiber. I will take it slow on the fat then.

Amazing results, ladies! I'm really thinking of giving this another go.

I do know from reading up on (of course) very low fat juice fasts that it's recommended to start lower in fat and then increase for digestive reasons after the fast. Maybe try a 30% fat macro for the first day or so before increasing?

Thanks to all for sharing. Fascinating!

An FYI about what's happened two days post hack. The first day off I had amazing plans of low-fat lo-carb to ease my way back on. Phhhft. It wasn't TO bad, but there were some pastries involved *head smack* The second day I went back to straight up lo-carb like I was eating before.

Day one after I went up to 150.6 (from 149)
Day two back to 150.2

I'm thrilled!!!! I'm going to eat on plan lo-carb for the next week and watch the scales. I would like to start a potato hack again TOMORROW, I swear to gawsh, I really, honestly loved eating potatoes all day! But I think some vitamins and minerals that I wasn't getting before might be in order. So, a week or two and I'll be back to taters! See ya'll then!

Hooray!!! Back down all the weight I gained back the day after the finished potato hack, so it only took two days to normalize! YEEEE!!! I'm using around 20 carbs a day right now but will move slowly up to 25. 25-30 seems to be my sweet spot for losing.

Now that I know for sure that those 16.8 pounds aren't going to come rushing back on I'm even MORE fired up to hack again!
