That's scary! It makes me nervous because I've been trying to lose weight because both my Uncle and father developed diabetes in their 50's (both morbidly obese) and I'm trying to avoid that. No shakes today so hoping for the best.

I am one that does potato DD's so I can have a little extra in calories but I remain at 600 or below on my potato DD's. I normally still do very low DD's so I can have more calories on my UD's.

End of Day 2 PH !

I still haven't eaten anything but mashed potatoes, over and over and over. Thank goodness they are so filling because I am not even close to being tired of them. I'm full right now and already looking forward to more in the morning, it's like a potato-carb addicts dream.

I'm going shopping tomorrow for spices and vinegar in case I get sick of these plain mashed with chicken broth, but for now I'm happy as a CLAM!

Good luck and good night to you all

Good Morning taters!

Morning day 3 and down another 2.2 pounds. YEEEE!

One thing I've noticed is that with Atkins I never retain water but so far with potatoes my face is puffy in the morning and my legs are swollen at the end of the day. I wonder if this goes away after a while? I've lost 4.4 pounds in two days and much of that has to be water but I'm still a puffball. Huh. Nothing disturbing, just interesting, and not by best look in the morning

I'm still on the mashed potato kick, I imagine in a couple of days I'll want SOMETHING different, but for now all I can see is mash mash mash. Mmmmmmmmm.

(p.s. I'm a super over-user of smile faces )

The potato hack made me puffy, too. I just contributed to all the salt which I just couldn't make myself do without.

Glad you're having fun eating mashed taters, lindystar!

As for getting tired of them - I do every other day (down day) potatoes, not every day, but I have yet to get tired of my twice-baked tater halves. I look forward to them in fact! (I like smiley faces too... )

Hello Jeeps ! (Judd peeps)

Haven't posted for quite awhile, but do read posts here daily.
(I spend most of my online time on another forum w/over 5k posts)

I just wanted to stop by and say thank you to all that post here and
keep me inspired !

The potato hack has been magic for me.... here's my daily weigh-ins since I started:

8-18 202.0 DD (Started PH)
8-19 201.0 DD
8-20 199.6 UD
8-21 200.2 UD
8-22 201.8 DD
8-23 200.2 DD
8-24 198.0 MD
8-25 198.2 DD
8-26 196.8 DD
8-27 195.8 UD

On my DD's, I wait until I feel true hunger, usually have an "Evolve" vanilla shake
(by Muscle Milk). That will carry me through until I get home from work on the late
shift (12:30 am) Then I shred up some taters, coat a pan with olive oil cooking
spray, brown and season with Adobo and Extra Spicy Mrs. Dash. I eat them with
SF ketchup and Crystal Hot Sauce. OMG,,, I absolutely love this !!! I usually end up
making 2 serving (about 3 medium yukons or reds), go to bed full, and wake up shocked that the scale is going down !!!

Sometimes before work, I will microwave a nice size potato, and eat with 0 cal/0 fat
spray butter. I usually unscrew the top and just pour dat stuff on !! lol
Also load it with salsa YUMMM !

So, thank you Ouzoid for this thread, and thank you all for keeping me so inspired.
I WILL continue this WOE until I reach my goal.

Carla

How many are you eating? I probably ate four pounds. At least 2 of those were sliced like chips and baked in oven so they're not as dense. Today was day three and sick of cold with malt vinegar. Plus I had gone up .6 today, which made me want to eat. Does that make sense to anyone??

I ate baked slice yukons last night for DD supper. I weighed 11.? oz of them, soak in cold water and dried on towels and then shok in ziplock with 1 t. evoo and baked for 45 min. I love these with sf catsup. Anyway, my 11.? oz of potatoes became less than 3 oz (2.5) after baking. Since I wasn't Phing bt counting calories I ate something with this. Can that really be a pan of baked yukons and 1 t. oil really just 115 calories.
Also, does soaking cause the rs to leach out? It's so cloudy when finished soaking and I wash off. Just wonder every time I wash them. My weight is stable right now adjusting to reg Judd. Going on a trip so I know it will be hard to hold.

It's morning of day four of my PH and I'm down another THREE pounds! Holy crap??

So it's gone like this so far,

Day 1 - 165.8
Day 2 - 163.6
Day 3 - 161.4
Day 4 - 158.4

I'm pretty flabbergasted but surely happy. I went to buy spices and vinegar yesterday and ended up buying $40 worth. Have y'all SEEN the spice isle lately??? It's amazing! I was amazed by all of the different choices and went a little nuts . I tried a couple when I came home but missed my regular old mashed with chicken broth. And darn it I was so excited by spices that I forgot to get more broth! DOH! I live on the border in Mexico and only go grocery shopping in the states once a week or two. Here in Mexico they're big on bullion cubes but I can't find broth. Ah we'll, time to make those spices count!

I have no clue how much I'm eating, a lot though I think. I add extra broth and water to my mashed to get more volume and feel fuller.

Gaining making you want to eat? If you mean stress/disappointment eating then yes, I really do get that. Or are you worried that you're not eating enough? Are you drinking lots of water?

We're gonna try the mashed taters tomorrow! DH is looking forward to it.

This is a potato day too. We are going to my Dad's for dinner on Saturday (I think anyway, he hasn't called to confirm that) so much to my surprise DH suggested we do two potato hack days in a row! Today and tomorrow.

Oh, here's my newest twice baked tater - 1 large baked potato, split in half lengthwise. Scoop innards into a large bowl, put potato skin shells on a foil-lined baking pan; add to the innards, 2 tablespoons Costco's bacon bits, 4 tablespoons LaTerra spinach/parmesan yogurt dip (also from Costco) and a smidge of garlic powder. Mix all together, load up in the potato skins, bake at 400* to warm innards/toast the skin. Eat one stuffed tater skin. Save the other one for dinner. Heaven!

Low cal and low fat yumminess.

I have 600 calories of potatoes on the menu for tomorrow's DD. Should be interesting! I have no plans to PH on UDs, but maybe on DDs if I end up liking it.

Ok, so it's PH DD for me, and I gotta say - 600 calories of potatoes doesn't seem like much, LOL.

I know they are supposedly satisfying, but as a volume eater I am looking at this small pile of potatoes and feeling like I'm going to starve. I have no doubt I'll stick with it, but I already can't wait for today to be over.

Hoping someone will check in here soon as I have another question before I eat my first potato today.

Do you calculate the calories based on raw weight or cooked weight?

I go by the calories listed on the potato bag, which is raw.

Another thought - it's almost always raw, unless the information you're looking at specifies that the calorie count is for a cooked potato. HTH!

Ah, true - my brain isn't working today. I was hopeful that it was cooked weight because I nuked my first potato too long and it shriveled up to nothing. It started at 7.2 oz. and ended at 2.1 oz. It still tasted good even though it was dried out . Guess I was really hungry

I need some motivation to stay on PH . . . I'm on day two of cold cooked potatoes w/seasonings. I have not been counting calories, and have not "cheated". Yesterday I had a lot of energy but today I'm rather listless. I've had lots of water and walked 3 miles this morning. Has anyone else had a similar drop in energy? I've noticed some people sub the PH for the DD, others will do PH for several days in a row. Any consensus on what works best? Perhaps when I weigh tomorrow I will see a good result and that will keep me going. My plan was a 5 day PH and then back to JUDDD for a week or two. Feel free to send your suggestions!

I lost 7 pounds in my first 4 days of the hack and I never once ate them cold. I say heat them up so you can actually enjoy your food

Thanks Lindystar! I will try it for dinner. How do you prepare your mashed potatoes? Just w/broth? Do you think I need to eat more? I've had three potatoes so far today.

Day 6 under way!

Day 1 - 165.8
Day 2 - 163.6
Day 3 - 161.4
Day 4 - 158.4
Day 5 - 158.0
Day 6 - 158.4

I'm not freaked by the level off today, my body is probably fighting with water and change, I'm going to continue on, I'm enjoying myself too much to quit!

OH my GAWD, I found a spice, it's McCormick and part of the grillin' line. It's called bacon molasses (or molasses bacon, one of the two) and it's crazy good!! I usually eat Goya brand Adobo with everything but this is something I'm adding in. It's spicy, sweet and smokey. I don't know if it actually tastes like bacon or molasses but whatever it is it's goooooood!

And thank you to who ever recommended smoked paprika, it too is delish

I boil them in chicken broth and then mash, they come out a LITTLE soupy but it'd makes the even more satisfying. While boiling I also add some tomato chicken bullion powder. That really helps make them sooooo good, you don't miss butter I swear it. On my plate I sprinkle with Goya adobo season (or just use salt and pepper or whatever makes you happy) and call it wonderland

I've been eating almost a five pound bag a day, probably 4 pounds or a little more. I don't like being hungry and I don't want to go into major starvation mode. . Good luck to you!
