I have a question..How many potatoes do we eat on a dd. Is it our calorie allotment or until we are satisfied. I am so unsure of this and am kinda afraid to try the hack

Round 5 for me began Sunday at 172#. Day 2, and I'm already back down to 169, where I was at the end of my last hack. I was pretty sure the 3# bounce was attributable to the 3xdaily eating out in San Antonio. Maybe I can get down enough before my next trip to Mom's to actually STAY in the 160's despite any bounces. I'm just so pleased there was no appreciable gain (other than water retention) between hacks this time.......a noteworthy change in my hacking adventures thus far. I woke up not hungry this morning, so my first meal will be after I take my pup to the vet at 9am for her annual shots and old-doggie check-up. She's 10 now and slowing down a lot.........like me. Smile

Happy hacking today, folks!

Me Too Grammie

I went to "My Plate" to see how many potatoes equal 500 calories.

I got confused. If anyone here can tell us by weight we would both
appreciate it. Would be going over the Farm Mkt. for some reds.

Barbo, raw red potatoes are 20 cals per ounce. Potatoes, baked, flesh and skin, 26 cals per ounce.

500 divided by 20 = 25 ounces of red, raw potatoes

500 divided by 26 = 19.23 ounces, baked, flesh and skin

HTH!

Muchas Gracias dear Char....

Well today I cancelled out on my down day menu.
So far I have had 6 oz. potatoes 'fried' in non-stick skillet with
olive oil spray, organic onion powder, s and p.
Coffee 24 oz. with sugar sub.
I am holding my breath...hoping not to get my blood sugar riled up.
So far so good. It's 4:30 here and I'm getting kinda hungry.
Think I'll have some broth. With my potatoes.

I need to go and make some more potatoes

I just ate dinner. OMG my gut is so full of taters.....

Scrubbed and micro-baked with coarse salt and pepper. Sprayed lightly to hold the seasonings on. Cooled 'em then cut up and put in hot non-stick skillet with chicken
broth salt and pepper. Clamped on a lid and let them absorb the broth. Ate them with
a little salsa.

So full, of course it is 6:10 p.m. but I doubt that I will be able to eat much more.
Had no idea that potatoes without all the fat could be this filling.

Actually Ouiz, it gets better. The 167 was at 5am, when I woke up today. At 10am, the scale said 165!! I'm a very happy girl today. I weighed 172 just 1˝ weeks ago while my family was here. For some reason, 10am has always and forever been my lowest weight throughout the day. Moral: (Duh!) Wait til 10am to weigh, Peggy!!

It's pretty amazing, isn't it, Barbo! DH is so thrilled with this. He does very well with the potato day and it carries over into the Up Day too - his appetite isn't revved up like he was afraid would happen.

I had a baked potato with salsa and jalapenos at Nifty 50's this morning at 9 o'clock and I'm just now starting to get some tummy rumbles - which I'll take care of around 5:15 or so with a twice-baked tater, innards mixed with either 2 tablespoons of salsa con queso and some garlic powder, tops sprinkled with paprika and a tiny bit of green-can Parm; or with 2 tablespoons of the jalapeno Greek yogurt dip that I get at Costco, tops done the same. Normally I also add a tablespoon of the Costco bacon bits but I'm out! AND I went to Costco today and forgot them!

You GO Barb! It's so nice to see the scale moving again, isn't it? I was getting pretty frustrated after a 3˝ year stall, basically.

They filled me up....

Didn't come anywhere near the 19 oz.
I won't be afraid to try them again.
Wondering if I could get away with eating something green
like spinach on this hack? I don't do the catsup or much on the salsa.

Still don't think that I should do this frequently. The amazing part is
how full they make you feel. By 6:30 in the evening I was finished for the day.
AMAZING TO ME THANKS FOR YOUR HELP CHAR.
Hey Grammie did you try it?

Peggy, what are you eating-how are you varying it up? I am on 4th ph since July2? and down 10 lbs but I'm so bored. I go off/crazy on weekend and this week company is coming today so for five days I won't hack but yesterday I could only eat a few boiled ones at lunch in vinegar and 1 lb oven fries in a t. of evoo with sf ketchup. I can hardly look at a potato today.

Barbo, we're doing the potato hack every other day (on our "down days" with no ill effects. DH is not diabetic but he's prediabetic, insulin resistant, and has a family history of diabetes on both sides, so you can imagine how hesitant he was to try this!

I know, it's a lot of potatoes! And yes, they're so satisfying. Glad you had good luck with it.

I don't usually eat any other veggies with it aside from the small bit of salsa I might use, DH uses some chopped onions, and he likes to munch on a couple of those mini peppers that Costco sells with his potatoes at lunch. I'm sure a bit of spinach would be fine, just don't add any fat to it.

Anne, I sometimes bake them and put 1 tsp. chopped chives on those with plenty of salt. I bake them and eat with a pinch of my combo lemon pepper and a seasoning blend I have. I have some baked potatos cut into wedges (as we speak) baking in the oven with some of my seafood spice blend sprinkled on top. I bake at 400 until they crisp up for a late night snack. I steam small gold and red ones (1-2") and keep cold in the fridge for snacks. I make my potato hack soup blending boiled ones (skin and all) with a little green onion, using their boiling broth for my liquid and puree with a stick blender. Sometimes I boil a bunch and puree with a little of the liquid for a mashed potato version. Sometimes I dry fry them in a non-stick skillet. Sometimes I eat the frozen hash browns (just potatoes) fried in a non-stick skillet I wipe with an olive oil dipped paper towel. The skillet is barely glistening, though, as I don't want to introduce any oil really. I'm not fond of them with vinegar and I don't like ketchup at all. Sometimes I just eat them baked with salt and pepper. Tried one with a spoon of rot-tel on it and BLEH! Won't do THAT again.

Peg, Char, Quiz and all,

This is such an interesting challenge. I never thought I would say FEH to a potato.
They are my lifelong LOVE! I did one DD hack and after Char told me how many to eat,
I measured them out and baked, measured again to eat with skin and all. Never could
I eat them all. There is a bag in the fridge of baked potatoes. I was stuffed....
However, today is an UP day and guess what I had? A huge pile of French fries at
a Hawaiian place called Hapa J's. They sprinkle them with some kind of dried seaweed that
is black. DH thought it was pepper. YUM!

Peggy it's so good to have that danged scale moving down again after soooo long. When
I saw that 170 on the scale I almost plotzed...glad for you too. Quiz you are genius with
the bake mix. I made the best buttermilk biscuits that we have had in so many years.
Char is DH still moving the scale downwards? I know that we are all extreme foodies.
I think that is what is so enthralling about this plan. There is always "TOMORROW"

My goal is 150 by Christmas. That's 8 lbs from now, but since I turtle I am going to work
hard for that number because I know how my body sabotages me with scale numbers.
So 158 today could be 160 tomorrow.....

I only went down to 164.5 today (only 1/2 pound down). But I didn't drink so much water yesterday, and did put a fair amount of salt on my spuds. I'm shooting for 150 by Christmas, too, Barbo, but if I don't get there.....well another goes y and I don't get there. It isn't for lack of trying, that's for sure.

Well I'm sure not breaking any speed records. But being a turtle is better than not moving at all, Barbo. I'm waiting until 10am to weigh nowadays, so I'll see what the scale says today later.

Barbo, DH is still going down, slow but sure, and so am I - I saw 143.6 yesterday, first time I've seen 143 for months. So we're both happy!

If it hadn't been for Ouis we never would've tried this at all. I trust her judgment and her homework on these things so even though DH was particularly nervous about it, we did it, and have been doing potato down days now since July 10. He's down around 10 pounds, and I'm down aroun 6 or 7, slow and steady gets it done!

BTW just so ya know - Ouis is with an "O" not a "Q" and is pronounced Weez. I've had the pleasure of meeting her in person and we've kept up an email friendship for many many years now! She's a very bright and wonderful lady. Love you Ouisue! (pronounced "Weezie" for anyone who wants to know! )

Love you back char-baby!

My name is an odd one, that's fer sure! On LCF the line under our screen name adds to the problem, because it surely does make that O look like a Q!! Then you follow an O with a U and no wonder people think its queezy, lol!!!

So glad everyone is benefiting from the tater hack! It is pretty miraculous how well it works if you are patient and not expecting instant results--

You know too - DH keeps saying how MUCH he enjoys those taters - even though he eats them THE SAME DAMN WAY - cut into chunks, ovenroasted at 400* for 45 minutes, cooled and put in fridge. When he wants some, he puts them in a wide shallow bowl, adds some chopped onion and some malt vinegar/pepper and he's a happy camper. Tonight he did have some salsa on them too.

I should talk, I am loving the halved/stuffed twice-baked taties myself. Haven't gotten tired of them yet!

I'm sure the answer is in this long thread somewhere, but I am going to be lazy and ask. If I decided to PH on my DDs (only), do I eat potatoes to satisfaction or do I have to stick to my DD calories to see results? I'm hoping it's the former because I am really struggling with low cal DDs lately and am looking for an alternative so I can take a little break. I tried the PH on one DD quite some time ago but I stuck to my calories at the time (500) and it was awful. I was so hungry and unsatisfied that I swore I would never do it again. lol. And my DD calories are much lower now so....
