Do you guys that do the PH for your DD see better results ? Is it just because they are so filling ? Please enlighten me or share your experiences. Thanks !!
I do Potato DD's for a change. I am not really trying to lose just maintain.

You girls would be proud of me. We were out getting some groceries awhile ago and hubby wanted to swing in to Cotton Patch and have lunch. Well I ordered a BAKED POTATO! Waiter was astounded that's all I wanted. I did put 1-2 tsp. butter on it, but that's all. No rolls, no meat. Hopefully I won't gain, but prolly won't lose today either.

I looked for the poblano SCQ at "my" Target today but they didn't have it. Color me sad.

Will try the other Target a few miles north of here and see if they might have it, or maybe I can get it online! LIGHT BULB MOMENT! [trots off to check out Target online....]

ETA: well boo - they don't have it online either.

I looked both places, Ouis - no luck. In fact I looked up and down every aisle! I DID get a jar of their white queso but no poblanos in this one, just jalapenos. Not that that is a BAD thing......

Well, I'm still at 169. That's 2 days without a loss, so I think my body is on to me. I'll stop my hack for 2 days, eat mostly veggies, little fat, very little if any protein, and resume on Friday. That way I can get another 5-day hack started and done before my brother flies in from Seattle on the 1st for 10 days.

cutey pie pic Peggy! I always see a 72 hour delay between my DDs and any weight loss. Same in reverse for weight gain. Maybe something to do with glycogen processing by the liver? Anyhow, just a thought that tomorrow may show some progress? WL is never linear is it

Good Morning all JUDD BUDS

Down I go today. I want to have a Chinese DD. Here's my plan.

Chicken broth with egg shreds and baby spinach
Egg Fu Yung Patties w. Chinese brown gravy
2 fresh fish cakes (held together with egg and oat fiber)
fried in 1 tsp. ghee.

Protein shake.
Iced Constant Comment De-Caff tea.
1/2 c. frozen strawberries.
Will come back with "My Plate" totals.

Sounds good Barbo!

Yep, weight loss is not a linear process, to be sure. I expected my weight to be up today after yesterday's UP day but it was DOWN almost a pound. Go figure!

Good for you, Char! Thanks Ouiz. This pic is more recent than my other pic that reflected me at goal weight (why I kept using it, as motivation). This current pic is at my lowest and current weight of 170, taken a couple summers ago. You might be right, and I know weight loss isn't linear. But I think I'll suspend my hacks when I have a 2-day period with no weight loss. With me, 2 days invariably stretches into 4-5 days. Been MY weight-loss pattern for decades. But I will not stop for as LONG as I did last time. Just 2 day cessations, so I won't regain too much hopefully.

Only regained 2# this break. So I'm starting PH Round 4 today at 171. I'll do it for 4 days this time, until my brother flies in Wednesday.

Hi Peggy, Char and you all

what is a PH day? Does that mean potato hack?

How many calories to do potato hack?

Would like to try it as it's simple but am a little concerned
about being diabetic, although I am very under control.
I tried fasting from wake up until 4:00 p.m. but that one
bit me where the sun don't shine.

I wanted to thank all you ladies for the great advice. My 3 day PH netted me a 3lb loss. After my regular DD of 500 calories, only protein I dropped another 1.4 to 125.6 which is a number I hadn't seen in about t 4 weeks. I ate normal UD and only went up +.6 which is very good for me. Today I did eat out and had some white wine and chiles rellenos & some salsa with chips. Let's see what the scale says tomorrow. I have another UD tomorrow and Mon. another DD and hope I can stay in the 125s.

Will likely do a PH every month or so. I did notice my IBS symptoms have improved dramatically. Without getting into too much detail I can't believe how big of an impact it had on my digestion. For that alone it is worth it to me to do the PH routinely.

Potatoes seem to have been soothing for a number of people who've done the hack (especially those who are FODMAPs sensitive, have IBS or similar issues).

Very pleased to read that you had such a positive experience with it, so much so that you're going to incorporate it into your overall weight management strategy. Yay for the potato.

A PH is a potato hack. If you're doing a potato hack of consecutive days, the standard advice is to eat plain potato (with condiments or a Tbsp or so of some of the sauces mentioned above) and to eat it to satiety and not beyond. So, you might be going over your notional DD allowance but after you've done it for a couple of days, you tend to have such a degree of appetite suppression that there's little concern about overeating plain potato.

If you're thinking of just eating potato on your DD and keeping your JUDDD rotation (with UD as your usual sort of food) then you would be well advised to have an estimate for how many you'll eat on a PH DD. If your usual DD kcal allowance is 400kcals, I'm guessing that's at the 20% WL level, so you could eat up to 700kcals of potato (if you were so minded) and still be within a WL allowance. That more generous allowance might be a useful buffer to have in mind if you're concerned about managing your blood sugar.

Good luck

Barbo, I do recall Keytones saying either here or at the *** thread that she is diabetic and has had no related issues potato hacking. Don't know if she is currently doing a hack or not. I believe she did it last time for 21 days straight, too (I haven't gone past 11 days myself). Maybe she'll see this and jump in here. Seems like she said she dropped her FBG from 120 to 80 doing this. Maybe you could PM her and ask her about any diabetic concerns/Q's you have. Of course, as always, YMMV from hers.

I've been thinking of adding a weekly PH day to my routine. I'll still keep doing my 5:2 plan and I eat in an 8 hour window. Not sure if to do my PH day after an UD or a DD ? Since I'm eating to hunger on the PH not sure if after a DD I may feel too deprived by doing a PH. This week going to do Mon DD, Tues UD, Wed PH, Thurs UD, Fri DD, Sat/Sun UD. Let's see how it goes scale wise for me. Last DD I weighed in at 125.6, would like to see 124ish again. Keeping my fingers crossed this works

I have a question..How many potatoes do we eat on a dd. Is it our calorie allotment or until we are satisfied. I am so unsure of this and am kinda afraid to try the hack

Round 5 for me began Sunday at 172#. Day 2, and I'm already back down to 169, where I was at the end of my last hack. I was pretty sure the 3# bounce was attributable to the 3xdaily eating out in San Antonio. Maybe I can get down enough before my next trip to Mom's to actually STAY in the 160's despite any bounces. I'm just so pleased there was no appreciable gain (other than water retention) between hacks this time.......a noteworthy change in my hacking adventures thus far. I woke up not hungry this morning, so my first meal will be after I take my pup to the vet at 9am for her annual shots and old-doggie check-up. She's 10 now and slowing down a lot.........like me. Smile

Happy hacking today, folks!

Me Too Grammie

I went to "My Plate" to see how many potatoes equal 500 calories.

I got confused. If anyone here can tell us by weight we would both
appreciate it. Would be going over the Farm Mkt. for some reds.

Barbo, raw red potatoes are 20 cals per ounce. Potatoes, baked, flesh and skin, 26 cals per ounce.

500 divided by 20 = 25 ounces of red, raw potatoes

500 divided by 26 = 19.23 ounces, baked, flesh and skin

HTH!

Muchas Gracias dear Char....

Well today I cancelled out on my down day menu.
So far I have had 6 oz. potatoes 'fried' in non-stick skillet with
olive oil spray, organic onion powder, s and p.
Coffee 24 oz. with sugar sub.
I am holding my breath...hoping not to get my blood sugar riled up.
So far so good. It's 4:30 here and I'm getting kinda hungry.
Think I'll have some broth. With my potatoes.

I need to go and make some more potatoes

I just ate dinner. OMG my gut is so full of taters.....

Scrubbed and micro-baked with coarse salt and pepper. Sprayed lightly to hold the seasonings on. Cooled 'em then cut up and put in hot non-stick skillet with chicken
broth salt and pepper. Clamped on a lid and let them absorb the broth. Ate them with
a little salsa.

So full, of course it is 6:10 p.m. but I doubt that I will be able to eat much more.
Had no idea that potatoes without all the fat could be this filling.

Actually Ouiz, it gets better. The 167 was at 5am, when I woke up today. At 10am, the scale said 165!! I'm a very happy girl today. I weighed 172 just 1˝ weeks ago while my family was here. For some reason, 10am has always and forever been my lowest weight throughout the day. Moral: (Duh!) Wait til 10am to weigh, Peggy!!

It's pretty amazing, isn't it, Barbo! DH is so thrilled with this. He does very well with the potato day and it carries over into the Up Day too - his appetite isn't revved up like he was afraid would happen.

I had a baked potato with salsa and jalapenos at Nifty 50's this morning at 9 o'clock and I'm just now starting to get some tummy rumbles - which I'll take care of around 5:15 or so with a twice-baked tater, innards mixed with either 2 tablespoons of salsa con queso and some garlic powder, tops sprinkled with paprika and a tiny bit of green-can Parm; or with 2 tablespoons of the jalapeno Greek yogurt dip that I get at Costco, tops done the same. Normally I also add a tablespoon of the Costco bacon bits but I'm out! AND I went to Costco today and forgot them!
