Oh, 400 degrees and I watch them and take them out when they start to shrivel. How long depends on how thick they are cut, I suppose.
I lightly brushed with olive oil last time and of course salted them. Have not tried it dry yet! |

My absolute favorite way to prepare sweet potatoes is to toss them in olive oil with some sea salt & garlic and roast in the oven at 400 for about 35-40 minutes depending on the size chunks. But I suspect my usual method would have too much oil for a hack...
I've done this with regular potatoes too, also yummy. |

I read that the potato hack can be done with some rice as a secondary option to potatoes. I'm leary, but since I have rice flour in stock, I whisked a little in some chicken broth to make fat-free gravy, added salt and pepper and put that over potatoes. It was...kind of good. I had pre-baked potatoes. Maybe if I mashed some it would work better.

wow! Last time I was here I think it was page 30ish. The hack has really arrived in Judddville
![]() So I have stomach rumbles reading these current posts (it's a DD obviously) and I am fasting till about 5. Plenty of time to think about what I will make..... spicy sweet potato chips, roasted potatoes, mashed potato and gravy... oh, it's killing me! This will be my 3rd attempt at the hack. The first one I did was really successful, I lost a whole kg (which is huge, huge huge, for me!!). I have been the same weight (if not more) for 5-6 weeks now. JHoberer - 10 DAYS! Now thats impressive! What was your first non potato meal I wonder?? would you go that long again for 4 pound?? after 3 days I get nausea just thinking about a potato! Well done thats such a great effort Keytones - That is truely amazing! 10 POUND! ![]() |

Ok, I'm starting today. I'm having my normal coffee w hwc/ff hnh (can't go strait ff hnh! bleh!) Will wait several hours to eat my first delicious creamy yukon gold w/ malt vinegar! DEE-LISH!!
I tried to read the WHOLE thread yesterday.....got to pg 18, so I will start there this AM! I'm on a DD today and will try to keep the calories low, but not gonna starve...I'm going to eat till satiated. I normally wouldn't have weighed after an UP (and i actually was nearly 200 cals over EEEEEK! )day but i wanted a record for this experiment! I'm going to do 4 days....maybe Sunday...if i can handle it! lol |

I'm with you Theresa! I started my hack yesterday, and I'm down 3 pounds this morning! I was pretty sure it would come off fast, as I had out of town company last week and pretty much just ate what/when I wanted. I was up 9 pounds on the scale as of yesterday morning, but I don't feel like I've gained any actual weight though, so hopefully the hack will get rid of the bloat quickly.
I hardly ever have to get up in the night to pee, but last night around 2:45 I had to, and it was a long one! So I knew water weight was coming off! Yesterday I just had microwaved potatoes - about 5 Yukon Golds - with salt, pepper and malt vinegar. I did also have a mug of coffee w/HWC in the morning. Today I'm going to try the sliced potatoes/broth bake. It sounds so good! I can't wait! I'm going to go at least 3 days, and if it is going well and I'm losing well, I may try for up to a week. How long are you planning to do it Theresa?

Hi All,
I am doing another run after a four-day hiatus for birthdays and social events. This is day 3. My weight drop tends to show up around Thursday or Friday morning after starting on Monday, so here's hoping for a good week! I intend to do another 3 week run, with interruptions for Valentine's day and a housewarming party and who knows what else. I haven't read up on what JUDDD is, but I guess I have "up" days, LOL. I have a thread I've started with info I've collected on the potato hack if anyone is interested. I'm gathering posts from MDA/Sisson's site from two people that seemed to have ignited the potato diet on that board. Here: Potato Hack on Paleo Blogs - Anyone Doing This?

Thank you!
I only hope to undo damages from the 4 day hiatus this week, get through Valentine's and a house warming party, and then go for a solid two week run. I am fascinated with the idea of browning them on the stovetop now. I read that someone boils then mashes them then browns them in a pan! I might try the browning shredded potatoes in a pan too. I think they have to be shredded then rinsed to keep them from being goo-ey. Anyway, I feel such a relief to find something that works with so little suffering! I am comfortable and happy!!! I found potatoes on sale last night--the clerk was very polite and did not ask me what I was up to buying so many, LOL... Last edited by Key Tones; 02-13-2013 at 10:39 AM.. |

Every time I drive past it, I think about this thread. I've not tried an actual hack yet but I've done 2 potato DDs. Didn't actually count cals but did soup and the broth bake on both days, and was quite satisfied. I am hoping for a Costco run tomorrow (been trying to get there for over a week) to load up on more than just my boring ol' bakers and then I think I'm going to try for a hack. I think I'm going to plan to start it on the 21st because I'm going to have 2 UDs in a row, the 19th and 20th, so this will be my recovery mode. Plus my mom's coming into town and I'd like a whoosh before she shows up. This is the 100# soaking wet lady who's never had to watch what she puts in her mouth so clearly anyone who is overweight is a lazy slob...she's my mom so I love her but gee...wonder why I have food issues... (apologies for the digression.)

I got several varieties of potatoes yesterday, and I'm trying to vary things a bit:
Yukon Gold - love them! I never had them before I got them right around Thanksgiving. Where have they been all my life (sitting in the grocery store as I walked right by, evidently! )White Rose - I've never noticed these before. I had a few for dinner last night, microwave/baked with salt, pepper and malt vinegar. They were okay. Skins were much tougher than I expected and it took a LOT of S, P and V to give them any taste. Red potatoes - I've had these before and prefer them peeled. Russets - my old standby! But I do prefer them with butter and sour cream... ![]() I made the sliced potato with broth bake yesterday and that was GOOOOOOOD! I love that and it'll become a staple for me I think. Today I may try the shredded and dry fry method. Next will be Adi's potato soup. I'm enjoying it so far, and down 4 pounds in 2 days, so I'm not complaining! My plan is to stay on this through Saturday, so that'll be 5 days. I'd love to lose 5 more pounds in the next 3 days, but we shall see. Last edited by LoCarbGal; 02-14-2013 at 08:43 AM.. |

Ha! I love that potato company sign!
I had a 4 day hiatus from the potato hack and it took 3 days on potatoes to get that weight off. I'm back down to 199 this morning. Whew! Valentine's dinner tonight and chocolates. I've decided I'm not eating anything that is not worth it! Goodness... I am so happy to have the potato hack in my back pocket!!! There is an MDA thread called the 'Super Secret Potato Project.' Heh, I love that! Secret weapon!!! |

I feel the same way Key Tones! It is great to have this as a weight loss tool. I have been alternating between JUDDD and potatoes and it has enabled me to get to a weight that my body was very reluctant to get to. If I feel like eating a variety of food I JUDDD, and when I really don't care what I eat I have potatoes for a while and have weight loss without the hunger. I also do potato DD's after higher than reasonable UD's and it brings me back to my maintenance weight. I know it is supposed to be a hack of straight potatoes to be used occasionally for weight loss, but potatoes have become a regular part of my diet as a secret weapon to maintaining weight loss as well.
Congratulations Key Tones on getting back to 199 and I look forward to your potato hack updates after you enjoy a wonderful Valentines Day!

I was up .6 this morning
but it's ok. I stuck with day #2 of spuds (despite all the sugary valentine fests AND a school wide bake sale) and really lost interest in food after lunch. I am only about 600 cals for the day. It normally would be an up day, so i ABSOLUTELY will not make it to the 2442 calories i'm supposed to have. I started cramping this afternoon (bad prd troubles...as SOON as i get insurance this stuff is GONE!!!) I'm having tea and am thinking potato soup for dinner.....though, i personally think it needs hwc and sour cream! lol I will be good though and leave those out. |

Potato hack over for me after 3 days. I had my potato dinner and really enjoyed it, but mid-evening started to feel a little yucky, which progressed to queasy and then nauseated. Blech! Now I have diarrhea and I hope I don't
.I just had a tablespoon of PB, and my tummy is feeling better already. I'm still hoping for a loss of a pound or two in the morning. So tomorrow is an UD and back to regular rotations for me! |

Nearly at the end of day 1 on the hack. My last couple of attempts have failed so I am doing it over the weekend so I can cook them as I feel like them the way I feel like them. I find cooking them and bringing them to work puts me off. Or... I run out, get crazy hunger and have to find something to eat thats available. No excuses this time
I need to drop a kg, I have been the same weight for 6 weeks and am struggling with DD's as well as going over on my UD's. My numbers are pretty stingy at my weight (347/1700) and I love to eat. Just gonna go with it.. So badly want to see 63kg (I've been 64.something for too long)... My wedding dress fitting before alterations is in a month so getting nervous Would anyone mind sharing results they have had with the hack over time? Has the weight come back or does it drop and stay there? I got to my current weight through the last hack I did for 3 days, but judding I haven't moved since. |

OMG
![]() I GAINED 2.5!! Now,I'm not TOTALLY quitting, because i was coming from pretty stringent LC (with the exception of a gigi's cupcake i bought for myself for an early day treat to have on an ud before starting the hack)I do feel "poochy" in my stomach and my legs are hurting at night (not sure leg cramps or if it is from "lounging too much before bed!" ) I have not been hungry really and the fact that I didn't eat ANY valentine's day treats at schoolyesterday is MONUMENTAL! But I would do almost anything to lose weight and nothing else seems to be working so far this time around! ![]() ![]() Any and all thought and suggestions are welcome! My eating for the last two days are: T (DD) nearly 700 cals of spuds + 1oz hwc in my am coffee W (UD)same as above....maybe around 900 cals I have had no other oils, etc. Malt vinegar and tobasco is all w/ sea salt. I have not been as "regular" in the last two days. On juddd i was averaging about 60 carbs of veggies. all lc style. |

please do not freak out. This is only temporary, and often happens when one starts the tater hack. It will all come off plus more. Hang in there. It is quite an adjustment for the body to add in starchy carbs.

I haven't done a hack (as defined by more than 1 day) yet, but I've done 2 potato down days. I didn't count cals on those days, per se, but I did stick to the rules - no fats, etc. Both times, I was down over 1# the next day. I've loaded up and I'm thinking I might start a potato hack from Monday through Wednesday. See how that goes and then try again for a few days in a few days. I think I can do it in short spurts intermixed with JUDDD. Course, this brings me to a question - first day off a hack a UD or a DD? I'm thinking UD but...??? |
