So one DD with just 700 Kcal Potato (ish), I did have a bad weekend with 3 uncontrolled days, but, wait for it.. I'm down 5 lbs this morning!
This is intriguing, I'm going to do a Potato only UD and see where that takes me? I'm just interested in what is going on. UD for me currently is 3000 Kcal, I've just been shopping and have a variety of Potatoes on my desk, some already cooked in cans to make it easier at work. It's a big pile and tots up to 2100 Kcal, I can not see how I can eat more, but i will try :-) report back tomorrow

OK, you guys had me craving potatoes all day after reading this post this morning
![]() so.... I went to the supermarket and bought a bunch of chat potatoes (little baby potatoes). I put just a little oil in the tray and tossed them with onion powder, salt, dried mixed herbs, garlic granules and roasted them. Served with a little mustard and SF tomato sauce they were mmm-mmm ![]() Feel nice and full for bed. And at 300g cooked, they worked out to be about 280cal so not too bad at all. Thanks for sharing! |

A few decades ago DH watched a show that said in terms of nutrients, vitamins, micro-nutrients potatoes are the way to go if you can only eat one food - and want to retain your health - for an extended period of time. I know because I have heard about it several times a year subsequently.
I am very curious to see whether the DD-potato-only crowd sees success or if you have to eat potatoes every single day. (I am a bit about the idea of eating enough potato on UD.)Looking forward to your updates. Gotta love a WOE that allows this kind of experimentation. Kettleboy, five pounds evicted is amazing!

AARRRRGGGGHHH!!!!!! Went to bed at 11:30 last night. Unlike some, I fall asleep quickly and sleep like a baby UNLESS.. The cat wakes me up at 3:00 am.
So I got to thinking about potatoes and got so excited I got up and baked a dozen medium-sized spuds.I think this is a hoot, but do remember a few years ago when I was doing some general *dieting* eating a baked potato with salt & pepper and Butter Buds sprinkled on, with plain yogurt mixed in to moisten it all. I like sour cream on potatoes, but I actually like plain yogurt just as well. There's something about that tangy yogurt-y taste with the salted potato that appeals sometimes. So I picked up some low fat yogurt yesterday. I'm all set for a POTATO DOWN DAY. ![]()

I've tried that. Many times. They just roll around with pleasure, allow you to give them their due amount of worship, gently indicate they have had enough, then remove your hand if you don't stop the petting/tickling.

I'm going to keep the Potato plain, just salt, vinegar and pepper, as per the original research.
Have read reams about this so far, something is happening in the body with this approach, but no one seems to know for sure what. Some of the claims of hunger reset are interesting, and really the reason I'm trying this, as currently I can do a good DD, but completely lose the plot on UD's. not an issue from a weight perspective, as the weight is gone on the next DD, but once I've binged out I feel awful, which you would think in itself would stop me, but it does'nt? |

I'm in today! I don't have a scale but I got the measurement info for size/calorie ratios so that will give me a ball park estimate of how many calories I'm eating today (a DD). Bringing the kids to school and then I'm going to make my first potato

Soooooo, after 3 full days of nothin but taters, I am down 5 lbs! Granted, some of that must have been thanksgiving bloat, but considering that no decarbing was involved (instead, WAY more carbs), I am super impressed. I will keep this up til Thursday--and then do regular food for three days as I will be out of town, and then back to Taters for a while longer. So so interesting!

I'm not JUDDDing on the tater diet any longer. Too hard. I am not really counting either. I am eating taters at 10, 2, and 6. 2 or 3 little yukons or one big russet. I use vinegar, salsa, broth and spices and that is it.
KB--wouldn't it be interesting if potatoes helped with UD's?? Last edited by ouizoid; 11-27-2012 at 06:00 AM.. |

![]() Ok, first potato consumed lol. I had a small, 2 inch, white peeled potato shredded and dry fried (with Pam spray). I added fresh ground pepper, salt and then served with 1tbsp of ketchup. According to an online calculator the potato is approximately 117 calories and the ketchup was 15=132 calories so far for my DD. |

I have eaten one of my russets...but no idea how many calories. Anywhere from 135 to 168, depending on what is a medium or small russet...and how the heck do you measure diameter...I measured around the potato, not the width and it came to over 7 in!!! I'm quite sure it's not what they meant by diameter, because it's a pretty small russet (not like a new potato, but certainly not huge)...I need a scale pronto!!

Will be intersting to see how the people adding stuff to the Potato get on, some of the research I've seen would mean that this would not work with any added fat, protein or simple carb? I watch with interest.

I'm eating white and red potatoes starting out and they're round so easy to measure diameter. Russets would be harder to measure because of their shape ![]() |

I ate only spray butter and salt and pepper...plus they were boiled in beef broth (cubes) all night. So far I am not getting the satiating factor. I could eat another one, easy.
Pretty soon all my DD calories will be met, and Me Sooo Hungry!![]() Hope to report later that things have looked up a bit. I will fast till 1ish at least, because if I don't I'll have no more calories to eat! |

I'm starting to feel kinda neutral, I guess. To be honest, I've never been fully attuned to my body, as far as nutritional needs...
some horrible person has put a red velvet "jelly" cake on the table in the lounge, with cream cheese swirled inside. |

![]() Ouizoid, I think you have the right idea! I believe that the calorie deficit is there without having to do JUDDD and it only complicates the "single food" WOE to try and fit into the JUDDD parameters. It just seems to me that to be able to eat 1500 cals in potatoes on UD, may be a chore or more effort than is necessary. ![]()

I am trying a potato DD today but when I weighed the big baking potato I had it limited me to one potato for the whole day (15 oz * 26 cals uncooked = 390 cals). Well I hope it is very filling because it is not THAT big LOL. I brought half to work and will eat the other half tonight.

I'm wondering about the malt vinegar. I hate to buy yet another thing, and I've got lots of tarragon vinegar, ACV, red wine vinegar in the house. Is the malt supposed to do something special?

This is really interesting, and I was wondering what the potato thing was I've been seeing in some menus around here already.
I love a baked potato, cold, with some salt. Or a pinch of ketchup. I might just give this a try S. |
