Oh my.... My eyes are sore from reading posts here and Marks Daily Apple... I am totally trying this, at least for DD's. I make so much sense, and I adore potatoes. Will be hard to avoid sour cream and butter, but better than shirataki noodles every other day... Blech. They are wearing thin....

Just bought 20 pounds of reds and golds, chicken broth & malt vinegar. I already have the 1 carb ketchup. I just have tomorrow to get through then on Sunday I start my potato hack! I am going to eat to hunger and continue for hopefully 5-7 days. My husband is joining me on this crazy hack!

SATURDAY ~ 3RD Potato DD
I finished my 2nd complete potato down day on Thursday. It was relatively painless. I had given up any thought of JUDDD'ing anymore. I could not sustain a DD without falling off... sometimes just minutes before I went to bed. I hated the white knuckle DD's when it felt like torture. Not so with potatoes.
I had meant to only potato hack on Tues and Thursday but because it was so easy I'm continuing it today, then again on Monday ~every other day. It may be that this will be a burn out eventually but I am JUDDD'ing again and I thought I was done with it. I did have a moment or two on both days when I was suddenly very hungry but I was working and had to ignore it. After a while I wasn't hungry anymore and ate less on Thursday's DD than on the first one on Tuesday. The satiety is great. I eat them with Cholula Sauce or just salt and pepper. I don't mind the monotony, that seems to help me. I'm not thinking about 15 different '500 calorie food portions' or how I'm going to combine them. I know what I'm having. That's all. When i did JUDDD before I was having salad and chicken and Walden Farms dressing and that was really good for a long time. I figure if I get tired of potatoes I'll alternate with the chicken salad. Couldn't hurt.

blonde with a rose.... Your comment "I did have a moment or two on both days when I was suddenly very hungry but I was working and had to ignore it. "
I just want to say Good thing you were busy enough to have to ignore it... I get bored at work when it is slow and THAT is when I do my serious snacking! I have not learned how to do the quote thing yet on this site, probably because I am on an iPad. Not too many features! Last edited by AuroraLaura; 01-19-2013 at 06:01 PM.. |

First tater day!
So today is my first tater day. It is suppose to be an up day, but between the fact that I have been outside doing tons of yard work and the fact that for some reason I am in a bit of a fog, I have only had 2 taters so far, and one ready for dinner in a bit. I made tater salad.... More like German potatoes, just cold cubed tossed with white wine vinegar and sea salt. That's the best way, I love tangy and salty food! I feel weird, though. Unfortunately my son is having his buddy over and they are making bacon quesadillas oh my god!! And I'm making little sliders for DH and my other son..... I must resist!! I think right after dinner, I'm gonna go lock myself in the bathroom and take a boiling hot bath! That will keep my mind off food and help my poor aching back! Too much crawling around the yard trimming shrubs. Ouch.
baths are my favorite thing to do, with a good book and cold seltzer water.

See the ''quote'' on the bottom right? Click on that and keep going. When you get ready to post, click on that and the quotes will show up. I'm on my iPad all the time. I find copying the hardest to do, but that is not LCF's fault!

I think it is 60 days and 60 posts, but not positive. There is a place at the beginning of TLC that explains the rules and regulations!

Hey Ouizoid, when you say you "baked" them does that mean you just put them in the crock pot dry? No broth or anything?

I have a crockpot full of whole reds and golds to have ready to go in the fridge. Any idea how long they'll last before they spoil?
DH wants a breakfast... we are going to attempt a potato "oatmeal". Thin mashed potatoes, Torani or DaVinci sf maple syrup or maybe cinnamon & vanilla syrup or maybe sweetener + almond extract? Anybody try this? Maybe we'll try all 3... ![]() |

Blabbermouth!!!

I am afraid the thought of potato oatmeal isn't very appetizing to me. BUT hash browns cooked in the George Foreman grill or one of those sandwich makers or even a waffle iron are GREAT. Shred em and cook em.

Could someone summarize for me this potato hack? I've read thru about 4 pages but don't have time to read the other 30ish!
For how long do you do it and on what days UD or DD or both? Do you have to do it for a certain time for it to be beneficial like every UD/DD for a week? I can only see myself doing it on DD really for the simplicity but would like to know. I believe I saw there are no oils or fats to be added only vinegar, broth, sf ketchup...what else? I would be interested in shredding and waffle ironing, the roasted ones or the regular old mashed. What else do I need to know in a nutshell?

I was doing great today until my hubby brought home a tuna sandwich to share.... I was already fragile (hungry) and gave in. Grrrr... But my last 6 meals have been potatoes, so I am not going to sweat it. It was a nice break, I have to say! And we ate it at the beach.... That just has to reduce the calories somehow!

Well the sweetened potato "oatmeal" (more like cream of wheat) works!! We laid out several bowls with a plop of very thick (the syrups thin it out a lot) plain mashed potatoes in each. We then used an assortment of sugar free syrups, spices and extracts and used EZ-Sweets (liquid Splenda) to sweeten. We tried maple and then maple-cinnamon (my fave), vanilla (Hubby's fave) & blueberry-vanilla (good), almond (not so good) and chocolate-almond (really not so good).
Who woulda thunk it? We ate sweet mashed taters for supper! ![]() Adi- We had those for breakfast- very good! I mixed my low carb ketchup with a dab of balsamic vinegar and it was quite good! For lunch we tried potatoes with the infamous malt vinegar- very good too! Aurora- LOL, the beach makes everything better! Natasha- There is no set diet other than eat as close to plain potatoes as possible (don't add fats or proteins or other carbs- or as little as possible) for 1+ days. The original hack is to eat until satisfied for multiple days in a row but others here have tried Up Potato Days & Down Potato Days in a row and just doing Down Potato Days between regular UDs. I've seen people eat hot sauce, spices and salsas too.

Well, I'm up .8 after eating between 600 and 700 calories in potatoes yesterday. I gain really easily when moving from low carb to not low carb- I think this is temporary water weight. Definitely doing it again today.
I've learned: Potatoes actually don't curb my hunger like I thought they would. I think I could eat them all day. Afraid to try eating as many as it would take to not be hungry. I'm sure I could eat 4 pounds a day. I'm equally sure I shouldn't. ![]() I love potatoes. Really love them- even cold. My favorites are boiled gold ones.I really love malt vinegar on potatoes. I've only ever tried malt vinegar on fried fish and in coleslaw- yee-uck! I only bought a bottle because my husband likes it. So that was a pleasant surprise! |

Jen. Give it a day or two for the appetite suppression. I find that I will have a strong hunger pain still--very strong--but once it passes, I'm not hungry again for hours. A whole different hunger pattern for me.

I did need less supper than I thought I would- thank goodness, cuz I had already eaten 6 potatoes by then!
Supper was really, really good! It was 4 cups reduced sodium fat free chicken broth, 1 cup water, 4 oz green salsa (I used Herdez brand- from a jar), some garlic and onion powder, a pinch of cumin and 7 fist sized red potatoes, cubed into roughly 1 inch pieces... made 4 servings. I boiled it all for 25 minutes- until the potatoes started breaking up and naturally thickened the soup. It was super yummy!! I had expected to need a 2nd bowl but I think I'll make it. |

This has been my experience as well. I can do this pretty easily when I'm working but it's harder to do when I'm not occupied. Potato day today, work day as well.

I was unprepared for the sharpness of the hunger. I'm a veteran at the hcg 500 calories... but this, it was different. It was agony in places. I had to give in last night an eat yet another potato... so I think I ate about 8.5 potatoes yesterday. I think today I'm not going to worry or count... if I need to eat I will. I have started to lose weight so I think I can relax a bit and go more with my hunger flow.
So... the news: starting weight: 186.6 187.4 185.2 I've edged into new territory for me!!!Onto another day of taters! I love them and I'm not even close to being tired of them! |

Hi everybody!! I've read all this thread and the super long ones back at MDA and I have to say that this works for me. I managed to lose the holiday bloat. I haven't been able to break out of the 160s. I keep gaining and losing the same five pounds, so I really want to kickstart an actual weight loss. Yesterday I ate my potatoes all day, and today I ate some potato skins at TGI Friday's (not fat free of course), but I'm hoping to see another loss or maintain tomorrow. Is anyone up for a four or five day tatter challenge?
