I plan on doing it for two weeks and trying not to eat the peels. I am only starting day five today but so far no problems in that regard. Although I haven't noticed a drop in weight yet. I hope you are feeling better and have recovered by now. |

Su11, that sounds very worrying and must be quite scary for you. I do hope you feel better soon.

I just did the Hack for 3 days, it may be a mental thing, but I believe it stopped the "Holiday eating" for me. I had it in my mind that I could keep eating all these "treats"... but, just doing potatoes for the 3 days has stopped the cravings and helped get me back in DIET MODE!!
Also, I dropped like 3 lbs!! |

May be a dumb question - but you've kept it off?
I am interested in this because it does not appear to raise blood sugar. I'm not diabetic but have decided low carb will help me should my damaged metabolism decide to propel me in that direction. Thanks for starting this - I've subbed the potato DD hack too - it's daunting! (edited to add - I obviously don't remember which thread I'm on! too many potato threads!!)Why do some not eat peels? I love potato peels. Last edited by JMCM1; 01-06-2013 at 09:30 AM.. |

i eat peels because they do not cause me gastric distress. I have kept off the weight I lost doing the hack. I think something happens with potatoes that changes carb cravings. As long as I have a tater or two during the day (on my non-hack days), I do not crave bad carbs or overeat at all. so so remarkable. No idea what the mechanism might be.

Oh thanks for answering ouizoid!
I read a bit of the Mark's Daily Apple posting and I have read elsewhere that cold potatoes do not have nearly the glycemic impact as hot potatoes. But I am not sure of re-heated potatoes. OK - so the peels are all about gastric distress. I'm going to be fine with that. But we also do not want to add fat or protein, do I get that right? I'm sorry I'm asking rather than reading. Just trying to get myself in the mode for this. I am not JUDDDing (although I can certainly see the appeal of it), but like the idea of a maybe 3 days of something TOTALLY different to shake things up and get things moving again. I'm quite close to my goal and am tweaking around my thyroid and hormones. I miss potatoes - they are lovely things.

I am just doing my first regular UD today, so no results yet... however if you want to follow check out the Potato Fast! Who's with me?? thread. I will try to update here as well, I just know that much gets lost when trying to read that many pages!?!? Where to start??
I have read ALL the DD Hack pages, skimmed the first time, then when I decided to do it, I read them ALL! Took a while! |

jm--no or little fat, no protein--potatoes and condiments. I have successfully added a tsp of fat/large potato--mostly I use a tb or 2 of tostitos salsa con queso mixed with bone broth for my condiment. No ill effect but YMMV

The first time I nuked and ate a couple of redskin potatoes, my blood sugar went through the ceiling. I am not diabetic but keep the meter because - even if my doctor doesn't get it - I know I have some very bad reactions to some carbs. Worse than I would expect to react to eating a candy bar.
The next try, the next day, I boiled and cooled the potatoes first. Then I ate them with - I think - 1/2 tsp of butter. No sugar spike. Dinner was hot baked with a little fat. No problem. After two days of adding a little fat to calm the sugar monster, I tried them plain. No blood sugar reaction. For me, they did make some positive changes. I find red potato skins give me acid reflux. Idaho's I can handle.

Starting my potato experiment tomorrow. Not sure how long I will continue. Did those of you who lost this way lose on your first day or did it take a couple of days to kick in? I did a single potato DD weeks ago and got no loss. Not sure if I need to mentally prepare myself for a couple of days with no scale movement. Thoughts?

I started mine today, and I have to say my body was kicking and screaming, typical sugar withdrawals after 2 days of completely unrestrained eating! EEeegads! I was quite a bit calmer after the evening potato meal. I am simply hoping this calms the beast and that I lose the bloat. I plan on doing Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I will decide about Thursday after I see how I do.
I started my day with eggs and bacon, since I was uncertain I was even going to make it today as a PD and was considering doing low carb for one day prior to launching. By afternoon I decided to just do potatoes for half day after breakfast 4+ hours prior. I will carry on. OMG. So not like me to be losing control like that. Gluten-free treats are now obviously my downfall. There must be something to those prepared mixes that my body very quickly gets addicted to (sugar, I'm sure, and who knows what else). My MIL is so utterly sweet to make them for me but now every family gathering has something she makes *just* for me, and of course is DELISH! and then I overindulge. I guess after every family gathering I am going to have to do at least one PD from now on. Thank goodness the holidays are over! Except my birthday is next week! EEEK! ha ha ha!

I haven't done a potato hack yet but I may in the future. So when I saw a recipe on a blog for fat free crispy potatoes I thought it'd be perfect for this. The blog is fifteen spatulas. It calls for flour but I'm thinking rice flour would work. If I end up trying I'll let you know how it turns out or vise-versa.

Started JUDDDing January 1. Seeing some movement on the scales and will today do my first PDD. I've read all of this thread and am starting on the one over at MDA to see if I can learn anything more. No hunger yet this morning after a good UD yesterday. I have my boiled red & yellow potatoes all ready along with the malt vinegar, which I LOVE, and also some salsa con queso if I want to fancy up the spuds! After seeing how I make out today, I "may" decide to try a second day or maybe even a third day, but I'd stop it there and then just go back to JUDDDering. I'm going to try to stick to my DD calorie allotment of 350 calories but if the hunger gets to be too much, I'll eat another smallish tater or two to get thru the day.
I love experiments!! ![]() ~Pat |

Today was also my first PDD. Mom and I decided to eat when we were hungry, and I ended at 4 taters, which I am guessing around 600 calories. BUT, I am feeling great, and today was a much easier DD than ususal. I am only doing PDD on rotations, not the 3+- day hack.

I also had a great first PDD! The scales showed a 2 pound loss for a new low of 213.3 I believe I will also be doing PDD for a while on rotations. Even though I ate more (622)than my normal DD clories (414), it still worked. Very happy with this plan so far!!!!

Ouiz I ended up only starting the PH again yesterday. Gross beginning numbers to be sure!!! Scary Larry bad and I just HAVE to get control of myself. I swear since going off my plans for surgery, I simply am having the worst mental problems getting myself back in hand! *sob*
I tried your Tostitos Salsa con Queso mixed with bone broth and wow! How delicious is that?! I can't even bring myself to read the label and have sworn not to until I get bad self corralled and back in business! I'm down 1.8lbs today. Feeling like I might be in slightly more control of life than previously!

I have been doing my DD's with eggs for breakfast and then a medium potato cut in half. Half for lunch and half fo dinner in broth as a soup. Been working well.
So for UD today I started my day with coffee with HWC and 2 fried eggs. Discovered I had nothing in the work frig except cold boiled potatoes so I had 12 oz of them with some SF ketchup (had some at work) and some hot mustard with salt. I am not hungry and there are cookies in the breakroom. This will be the first time that I have tried potatoes amd been satisfied and I am not trolling the breakroom for anything I should'nt have and it is mid afternoon. Maybe the protein and fat for breakfast is the key for me. Since I have made it fine so far I am going to have a baked potato for dinner with a little lowfat sour cream and see how it goes. I waited for 6 hours after breakfast before having lunch. I posted in another thread that for once I feel like I can make it trhough an UD without wanting junk.

Read the majority of this thread this morning around 1 a.m.
I have decided to try a potato DD. Sliced and fried my first one (russet) in a skillet with a tiny spray of Olive oil till browned a little, then dipped the sliced in SF ketchup. I was afraid there wasn't going to be very many slices for me to actually sit down and eat because I kept stealing potatoe slices from the skillet, I was soooo hungry. (No BP coffee this morning)I'm looking forward to seeing the scale after today. |

Pooti--you are so right, How Delicious is That?? I'm addicted. Stats on tostitos scq are not bad at all: 2 T is 31 g. 35 cals, 2.5 fat, 2g carbs, 1 g protein. And with bone broth, you are just making it even better!
I actually use the Target Archer brand because it is made with Poblano chilies, which I adore. |

Yes. It works well for the calories and for some reason it helps me but I don't eat potatoes for breakfast. Just eggs and coffee with HWC. Potatoes for breakfast made me so hungry by 8am I couldn't stand it. I eat at 6am.
