I was thinking turkey bacon or tilapia. I am on a turkey and fish kick right now.
I eat a lot of eggs normally, so I like to switch it up once in a while. |

I am going to do the hack right after Xmas till New Years. I have not yet decided if I will try Juddd with it or not.
So the protein in the morning is because of boredom? Or is there something to it? I am assuming u wait 4 hours so all is digested ? |

I am fine without fat, but protein... not so much. For DD, I may not have any protein, just a couple of taters. This is one reason why I decided not to JUDDD on my 1st round w/ the tater hack, it seems to complicate the whole experiment. ![]() |

And, yes, the long gap is ensure the taters go through your system completely on their own.
Some people find a small amount of fat, protein, or carbs can be added (and help some of us keep our blood glucose stable) and the tater magic still happens. But, to get the best 'bang for your spud' eat 'em with seasonings only. |

I'm seriously considering a potato hack in early January. Kind of depends upon how much the post holiday bounce is, and how easily it comes off again. I'd love nothing better than to start January with a several pound loss in as many days.

THIS. For me, if I don't eat protein in the morning, I do NOT sleep well and I end up with weird adrenaline rushes. My cortisol/adrenalin is out of balance. |

Bring on the post-christmas food-fest potato hack! Ohhhh, I ate...and it was all so good. But my body is letting me know in no uncertain terms it's time for austerity measures now. So taters only today, and maybe some protein/veg for dinner tomorrow after another tater day. I have found I can do taters all day then 3 oz of protein (usually ham or chicken) and taters fried in 1 tsp of coconut oil, plus a green veg and still keep losing. But I really end up with most hack days being down days calorie-wise. Doesn't seem to make any metabolic slowdown problems if it's just a few days...I have to say, knowing I can rapidly lose the holiday weight has made enjoying those holiday treats sooooo much less freighted emotionally, yay!

I started back today with homemade potato soup. I boiled a few yukon golds in fatfree (free range) chicken broth, whipped them up and added my fav spices. It is heavenly. Very soothing. I am going to try and get an UD in tomorrow, but like you, Patty, it seems so filling that 500 cals seems like a lot of food. Satiating and simple.
It is a nice break from having to come up with and/or count cals to make my numbers. |

grammy--no one would laugh at you! Potatoes without fat or protein end up not only being very filling, but for many result in some crazy weight loss! I am eating potatoes on both DD's and UD's. I eat 500 cals of potatoes on my Down Days, and potatoes during the day and some protein and fat at night on my Up Days. If you read this thread you will get lots of ideas and see how it worked for many people--

Grammy,
It is a mono food hack and it not just low cals, although, sometimes the calories just end up being low. The trick is not having anything else, but taters if at all possible. If you do add protein, it must be 4 hours after or before. It seems as though the ones this works for lose more weight than just fasting. Or at least for me that is the case. ![]() If you read over at the paleo site, "Mark's Daily Apple" you can understand a bit more about this hack. |

Hiya!
Hello spudsters!
![]() I am a long-time occasional lurker on LCF, and have been JUDDering for almost 1 week (and lost nearly 2lbs so far). And THEN stumbled upon this fascinating thread! So just wanted to say Hi and I will join you all in your experimentation next week. (I am a little hesitant about this, and JUDDering too, for that matter, due to adrenal fatigue - I am SUPPOSED to eat a bit of protein steadily through the day - but will see how I feel). I also bought a glucometer a few months ago and have yet to use it! So I think I will test myself with some 'regular' carby things (oatmeal, etc.... ), calculating to be sure the carb count is the same, and then compare results with the SPUDS. Hmmm.... potato...hack...potato sack...hackey sack...I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere! ![]() Thanks all for taking the time to post your results!!! Erica ![]() |

Hi Erica, I was a bit hesitant to try this as well. I don't test my blood sugar, but so far, I feel great. I ate a bit of turkey & an egg for breakfast, but taters the rest of the day. Woke up to a 1.6 loss today and hoping for at least a lb per day. It is strange, because if you have been following me, my weight is the slowest to shed of all of the JUDDD budds. So, if I can shed a bit of my indulgences before going back to JUDDDing along my merry way, then "tater hack" it is!

Potato day tomorrow, travelling back up to London and no food at the other end so this will be perfect after my first good DD since Xmas food overload.
Looking forward to it. |

Yesterday was my first DD since before Christmas. I ate all potatoes & added a green salad with light dressing with my yukon's at lunch. I lost 3.2 pounds!! I couldn't be happier! Today, a regular UD, is going very well. I've got another Christmas dinner coming this Sunday for the other side of the family. This has been a great way to get rid of the sweet cravings that woke up during Christmas baking & eating!!

So if I'm reading this right... Baby Red Potatoes when raw are 20cal/ oz. So that would mean I could eat 25oz or potatoes on a DD?? It seems like a lot!!
Am I the only one who likes mustard with potatoes??? I have Champagne Dill Mustard, Smoky Chipotle Mustard, Dijon, Whole Grain etc... some more I can't think of right now. Most are 5/cal or less per teaspoon. I believe I saw because it is less than 5, it adds up to 10 per tablespoon.. That is the count I use. |

Down 1.2 this morn. Will keep going until Sunday.
![]() Yes, I love the mustard too! Someone mentioned putting sauerkraut on the roasted taters. So, I am going to attempt a bit of mustard and 1/2 cup of sauerkraut today, sort of German flavor and hopeful to be satiating as brats. ![]() I also tried my fav hot wing sauce (Frank's) which is 5 cals per tbsp. Yes, it is spicy, but it breaks the monotony. |

I have to add a breakfast of some protein in order to get close to 1600 UD number. I don't know if I will even attempt it today? I am not hungry, but I would like to have a good rotation in numbers also.

That is great Sunday that this is working for you with adding in some protein on the UD. I think I will give that a try. Today is a DD for me so I will stick to potatoes only and see if I can lose some of this holiday weight before New Years.

best wishes to both of you! I actually enjoyed the kraut & taters. Trying to drink broth when I feel empty, because as someone mentioned with emptiness comes hunger pangs, although, it isn't really the "I am dying" type of pains.
. I will eat more roasted for dinner this eve, maybe even one sweet tater? I can't say this is difficult, but it would be much easier if DH wasn't eating pizza, chili & cookies/christmas candy all day. ![]() |

Looking forward to hacking, starting with tomorrow's UD.
I kept on rotating through the holiday (a Christmas miracle!), but my four UUADs were excessive, carby, and wildly and increasingly addictive, sugary, headachy, and blue. Christmas has always been thus for me (I remember chocolate at 2am and crashing by 6am when I was a kid - nothing Norman Rockwell about those scenes), so I'm thrilled to have contained it to four UUADs. DDs helped a great deal - they were the best gift of the season - but I'm feeling a desire to detox and de-crave. This sounds like a volatile holiday, but it wasn't, really. It was an experiment that reaffirmed both my Tasmanian-devil-in-a-bag relationship with many carbs, my happiness with exploring potatoes, PHD, etc., and my TOTAL love for JUDDD. ![]()
