Planning my 1st Down Day! Advice pls!

It is my nature to imagine the deprivation, so I am trying to plan ahead.... I have my list started for my first DD this Tuesday. As a side note, I am trying to not eat any Fake Processed Foods on a regular basis. Maybe once in awhile, but not every DD.

First I worry about my coffee.. I am used to my coffee with HWC now, and a good amount of it (3 Tbsp would be 150 calories) and/or thick coconut milk. WAY too many calories for a DD. Can't have that or I'll be done for the day. I have tested myself to see if that is filling for me and maybe I won't want breakfast.. but, no. I AM hungry about an hour later. I bought some unsweetened almond milk - regular flavor and chocolate. I don't want to include more dairy (i.e. milk) into my day. I was thinking that maybe I can make more of a cafe au lait with the almond milk and just use it throughout the morning since there will be more. I am not much of a tea drinker although I may do that in the afternoon.. Any other suggestions?

I made up a recipe for a big batch of veggie soup to be used between meals or with 2 oz of protein for a meal. W/O protein - 63 calories for 1.5 cups. I hope it tastes as good as it sounds on paper. (If it's good I'll list the recipe afterwards!).

I bought a carton of organic egg whites to mix with a couple of whole eggs and make Egg/Quiches in a muffin pan. For a DD I'll mix it with sautee'd veggies, and in a separate muffin pan I'll add some crumbled bacon and/or sausage and some cheese for the UD meal. These are great to carry in a baggie when you have to eat a meal out of the house.

I purchased a few bags of shirataki noodles, cabbage and goat cheese (instead of Laughing Cow). Maybe a few pieces of shrimp mixed in and some seasonings will be a nice meal Tuesday night.. and I can do a Shrimp Scampi for DH on the S noodles..

I don't want to make a big deal out of the DD's here at home. Well, actually I don't want to make a big deal out of them at all, but they are freaking me out. LOL! So many of you are role models and I want to be just like that after a few weeks!

The resveratol and pristerlene (sp??) will be here mid-week. Oh my!!

Salads, huge leafy salads - leaves chopped finer than usual - with a teaspoon of real dressing (1 t spreads more easily over finely chopped leaves) can be very satisfying. Add an ounce of protein of choice if needed.

I am an addict to HWC in coffee - it is one of my greatest pleasures. Over time, I trained myself, on DD, to use 1 teaspoon of HWC/cup. The taste and some of the texture is still there. And the calories are severely reduced.

Your plans sound excellent. Take it calmly, keep extra nibbles on hand, and don't panic if your first DD goes over the calorie count you hoped to hit. As long as you don't eat a whole turkey and all the dressing in the house, as long as you eat lower than normal, sirtuin proteins are going to begin flowing, your body is going to begin adapting, and the magic is on the way.

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

Thanks everyone!

I appreciate the suggestions. Nancy, I like the chopped salad suggestion. I would love every other day to be sort of like a veggie detox, so this would be perfect. I'll chop up a bunch and have it for the next two DD's... then, repeat!!

Oh, and a good idea for away from home eating - put the dressing on the bottom of a shake jar.. then put in the veggies. When ready to eat, simply shake and get your fork~

Thanks!

My first DD was last Monday, and I was honestly terrified. I hadn't really planned anything, but somehow got through it. The 2nd one was much less anxiety-ridden. On both days, I did find that my concentration level was close to nil, since I was obsessed with my DD number. My 3rd one was a breeze, and my 4th DD today has been a serious non-event.

You'll do great!

dipgal! So glad to have you with us. You're doing great to plan your DD out like that.

I am with you on the coffee w/HWC. It's just so yummy! I've recently been experimenting with SF creamer at 15 calories per T on DDs. I have the vanilla right now, and it's not too bad. But my true love is that HWC, so on UDs, that's what I have.

You've got some great ideas going for DDs. You'll just have to keep playing around until you find what is satisfying, and helps you through. I'm still experimenting almost 3 months in, and sometimes I think the changing up of things is really good to get our bodies losing again, when it figures out our current strategy.

Good luck, and post often!

Have some celery stalks chopped up or some sliced cucumber ready to go. In the beginning volume helped and you can eat a lot of celery and cucumbers for very little calorie expenditure. A mug of broth is really filling too, if you feel super hungry. I'm sure you will do great. Just remember "I can eat tomorrow" and if you can wait the hunger out for about 20 minuts it will pass. We say around here "Hunger is not an emergency!" and it is super empowering to learn that first hand!

Hunger is not an emergency! I love that Carly. I'm going to put it on a piece of paper and stick it to my fridge.

In the past, the first feeling of hunger will send me looking for something, anything to put in my mouth. As I got used to LCing it didn't seem so scary, I would have a boiled egg or piece of meat.

For a long time I would go weeks maybe months with never feeling a hunger pang. Now I look forward to them because I know its making the "skinny gene" do its job and help me get better even at the cellular level. and of course lose weight.

I don't go long in this mode, even a glass of water will ease it. But my point is what used to freak me out now makes me feel good! Very strange. But I love it!

It may take a few DDs for you to figure out what works best for you. Some need fat, some need protein, some need bulk, and some of us need a combination. Once you figure out your own formula, DDs become easy peasy (with the odd hard one here and there--I won't lie).

Dipgirl, have you watched the BBC Horizon documentary, Eat, Fast Live Longer? It is available on YouTube and is so worth watching. It really seems to appeal to men as it is told from the male perspective. There is a link to it in our CRON thread, I ll try to put it in here.

I think it is just marvellous that your DH is joining you.

This link may work. It would be such a great plan to sit down and watch it together.

Don't be put off by the first half which concentrates on serious calorie restriction, including a 3 day 'fast'. It is worth watching the whole thing in my opinion.

And here A DD Hack is the thread about the 'potato diet'.

I wouldn't suggest you start with this though!

SALADS!! I find carbs can provoke hunger, so even vegies I keep to a minimum (unless raw). Soups are great and filling, sugar free jello, celery, and lots of water!! Also know that if you go a little over (or a lot ) don't throw in the towel! It can take weeks to get the hang of it, but it will happen. Just have faith

Hi dipgal, that is great your hubby wants to try JUDDD too. It will make it a lot easier for you, for sure. Mine doesn't need to lose any weight, never has, but he doesn't have a problem fending for himself when I'm not cooking meals.

You will do great tomorrow. Be good to yourself and relax, as much as you can. I NEVER thought I would even consider alternate day fasting, but here I am and so far loving it. Its not that hard when you know you can eat more the next day.

Can't wait to hear how it goes for you. I'll be right there with ya, on my third DD.

My advice is to keep it simple. I drink my coffee with HWC every morning. One T is 3 t so I measure 2 t into my coffee mug for cup number 1 and when it is almost empty I add the 3rd t and fill it back up. I have gotten used to 3 t max for HWC every morning. Tried other low calorie junk and it isn't the same.
I rotate between eggs for B or oat bran. Both keep me full for a long time. On busy weekend days I do not eat B other than coffee any longer and have oat bran for lunch. Simple and keeps me from obsessing about food.

Congrats on DH deciding JUDDD sounds like a plan he can follow. Prepare yourself though, many men can eat more and lose more. JUDDD seems to be a real fit for the male metabolism.

Dipgal- so thrilled that your DH is on board too! I will tell you. This plan is taylor MADE for men! My dh started on 04/18 right along with me and he lost 40 pounds in less than 3 months. At times I would be so frustrated that his weight was literally falling off him...MEN!!!!!!! It is nice having someone along with me.

DD's typically work themselves out. You will find what works best for you. For me, it was trial and error. I know you didn't want more dairy, but I love 3/4 cup of cottage cheese on a DD! Good and filling. I often add splenda to make it a sweet treat. Much like others, 1 major thing I have learned with JUDDD is, I can be hungry and still survive. I do have to watch my bloodsugar, I tend to run really low, so on DD's I focus on protein type foods!

Soup is a great idea for DD's. Warm and filling!

Let us know how today goes for you!

"Hunger is not an emergency"

Read it twice, commit it to memory, say it out loud, slurp it around a glass of water or other no-/lo-cal fluid, use it to stall eating for twenty minutes (much 'hunger' fades in twenty minutes for some reason)

And know, once your body adjusts, you may just find yourself on the "golly, I wish every day could be DD" team

Most of DD #1 Over.. is it tomorrow yet??????

It's a little after 4:00 and I am indeed hungry and have been this way since about 10 AM. The 100 calorie mini-meals do little to satisfy. I have kept busy and was out most of the day. I am not "climbing the walls" hungry, but it sure feels good to know that tomorrow will be here.... well, tomorrow!

I have not had any meat protein yet today... I had 1.5 egg whites & sauteed veggies for breakfast while sipping on a protein drink this morning.. Lunch was homemade veggie soup... 3:00 snack was a salad and 80 calories of dressing. I have some chicken breast baking and will have 3 oz of it in a couple of hours with shirataki noodles, a tsp of sesame oil and soy sauce. Hopefully the bulk of the noodles will let me fall asleep without concentrating on my empty belly. I am an early-to-bed kind of gal, 9 or 9:30 - so I don't normally need any kind of evening snack as some people.

I used unsweetened chocolate flavored almond milk (45 calories) in my coffee with some stevia. Much better on the calories than 4 tbsp of HWC!! I bought some Half and Half to have on UDs instead of HWC. If I am not doing strict LC, then I don't really need all those calories.

I know it's trial and error, so I may have to add more protein. I was hoping to do it sort of like a veggie detox, but if I continue to be really hungry that may not be the best idea. I know it's just my first DD, so trial and error as several of you nice gals mentioned.

DH and I went to the fitness center for awhile today.. we've been trying to be consistent at this, so hopefully the eating plan will give us the nudge we need.

LibraryGirl, most of us can use therapy! We have core issues that we have been hiding from ourselves forever! We have been masking our feelings with food and comforting ourselves with it, too. We have to love ourselves enough to want to do the best for ourselves.. and that includes getting healthy and feeling good in our own skin. These forums are a great and cheap form of therapy! I sometimes say stuff here that my friends or DH don't know!

adillenal - keeping it simple will definitely help. thanks for the advice!

Thanks to all of you, even if I didn't mention you by name. I couldn't do this without you!!

HUNGER IS NOT AN EMERGENCY... I CAN EAT WHATEVER I WANT TOMORROW... REPEAT... REPEAT... REPEAT.

I still use HWC on UD's. You may find that it's fine to have, because sometimes it's tough to get in all your calories, believe it or not! I am finding that I don't want to eat as much as I can on UD's just because I can, lol. I think I want so much more on DD's, only because I know it's "forbidden".

WTG dipgal! First DD about done and that must feel great!

I started out having HWC and CO in my homemade mochas but decided to keep CO for UD's and just have a splash in my mocha. It turned out fine.

I also found it surprising that the baby dill pickles in my fridge say ZERO calories per pickle. I spose that means less than one. But I'll be darned if that one little pickle didn't ease that little hungry feeling.

Congrats on your First DD and have fun tomorrow with your UD. I know I will!
