Boy was I in for a Rude Awakening!!!
Today being an UD I decided to get a free drink on a card I have from starbucks. SO i ordered a grande breve with sugarfree vanilla. Came home googled calorie count and I about *(*&^%$. OMG ....again O M GEE! 568 calories. Thats a whole meal! Thank goodness I had the calories to spare but no way do I want to spend my calories on a drink. Next time I will have hot tea save the calories. This is a lesson plan ahead.

This has happened to me a few times with different restaurant items! I know the "oh no, what did I do?" feeling well.
![]() I used to order breve sometimes doing low carb, since cream has less carbs than milk and it's made with half and half. All that cream would pack a calorie wallop ... I bet it was good though. |

I know, right?
If you want to stay LC, do the breve... but for lower cal, do skim milk or or soy milk (which is sort of lower carb also). This is exactly the conundrum I got caught in the other day while I was out and about... wanted starbucks, but skipped it b/c of the calories (I think a tall "skinny pepermint mocha is like 120 cal? they do have good counts on their site and in various calorie counters out there). I wound up eating a pear I had just bought instead |

I agree with you on the surprise factor! I really don't mind occasionally blowing an entire meal's calories on something special and exotic ... but I want to know what I am doing so I can savor every molecule (and cherish the wicked feeling of 'I can eat/drink this and still lose').

Aye aye aye!!!
![]() ![]() Thanks for that reminder, Debbie. I've been contemplating a stop at Starbucks in my running around lately, and so far have been able to resist, but this holiday time makes it harder and harder. My all-time favorite is the caramel macchiato, and there ain't no way, no how that is either low carb or low cal. Darnit! Gonna hafta try that peppermint skinny mocha thing everyone is talking about. |

Wow!
No starbucks here, but I usually get a large (iced or hot) with sugar free syrup and "just enough half and half to lighten it" (lol I asked the woman who always takes my order to guesstimate how much 1/2&1/2 that is, she said "2T or less unless whoever is making it is heavy handed". I figure it comes in under 100 cals. |

The Starbucks around here have the calorie count right on the menu in the store. That has been a deterent to several drinks or had me take the size down to a tall!

If you have a Sonic Drive In in your town, do not order a large milk shake, lol. They are around 1800 calories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a craving for a milk shake, but thankfully looked at the nutrition info before going. Even the mini shake is over 500!!! Good golly Miss Molly!!

Thanks for the heads up. I love starbucks and was doing heavy cream in my black coffee untill i realized how "heavy" it truly is. Now i just drink my coffee black. I didn't know a drink could be as much as a meal!!! OMG. Will definitely be cautious when ordering from those kind of places.

I am sooooo glad that I have never enjoyed those type of drinks!!!
Less temptation I do not like coffee...but I love the smell of it. I'm more of a hot tea/hot cocoa person. |

At least... That is just plain terrifying! That is the answer to anyone who is having trouble getting in UD calories. A grande, breve, anything, from Starbucks!

I always choose a Tall (how can they use that term for their smallest size?), everything either skinny or soya, and everything needs at least 2 extra shots just to taste of coffee.
![]() If they want to sell hot milk they could call it that. ![]() Sorry, can you tell I m not a fan of *$$. |

It's silly pretentiousness using Italian interspersed with English, lol. Heard they were changing to regular lingo to describe sizes...

The language just goes w espresso, which has it's origin in Europe.
They do have a short and I order it fairly often. My usual morning order is a triple tall, whole milk, 180 degree latte. Sometimes in the afternoon, I'll get a double short. |

My brother and law is a manager at Starbucks. I've never liked coffee at all...and I've tried it all different ways. But, he just brought us a bag of the "Thanksgiving blend" and it smells divine (always
the SMELL of coffee). Well, I added it to my "bulletproof" tea and I think it's good! I do about 1 cup of chai black tea, 1/2 cup of coffee, 1 tbl coconut, 1 tbl butter, and 1 tbl cream or 4 tbl half and half (same calorie punch approx.), and whip it up in my blender. I love the foamy and the faint coffee taste. Great addition to any day, although I don't get quite the hungry quench from it as everyone else seems to ).I like it so much, I might try a peppermint mocha? It actually sounds good! I'll have to talk to my brother in law about his recommendations. I love the idea of making coffee drinks at home though. I could use candy cane peppermint tea with coffee and cocoa powder and make my own "bulletproof" mocha? HMMMMmmmmmmm................... I am totally trying this out....

It's definitely a good lesson - I accidentally had a 1500 calorie lunch at Panera on Friday for the same reasons!
