JUDD sleeplessness?

I am getting that made crazy energy that comes with DD on JUDD.... but last night I did not sleep a WINK! I laid in bed for 7 hrs with my eyes closed... I should have gotten up and done something, but I would have woken everyone up! I know that sleeplessness is one side affect of IF for women... but I am starting to see it with JUDD. I go to college, and need my sleep to function properly. Does anyone else have trouble with sleep? I have been a chronic insomniac my whole life, but I have had very consistant sleep for the last few months. The only thing that has changed is JUDD.

I have good nights and bad nights and I thought it was because of JUDDD but I have not been doing any dds for a couple weeks and its still happening.
I do think it helped a little when I started taking magnesium. I'm ready to try giving up coffee. I don't drink a lot but I'll try to see if it makes a difference. Do you drink caffeine?

My sleep was far worse before JUDDDing, but I still take Tylenol PM at bedtime. Helps the pain and the insomnia.

I have difficulty sleeping without any food in my stomach. So I generally save around 100-200 calories for right before bed (like an hour or two). That helped a lot with waking up in the middle of night/restless nights

I need to unwind for a while at night. I can't just get in bed and then sleep. I always start with a hot shower and then rest in bed. I read, use my IPad or watch TV. I eat my bedtime snack. Then I turn the lights out and watch something on TV that isn't that engaging- something that helps me turn my mind off from real life. Then I turn over and close me eyes and listen to the TV until I fall asleep. It would probably be best to sleep with TV off, but DW and I like having it on, but with volumn low. I think having a bedtime ritual is helpful if insomnia has been an issue.

I used to have DD insomnia, but it went away!

Start Date: JUDDD 1/1/12 + LCHF 12/1/13 (controlling diabetes)
Pre-JUDDD and with JUDDD, the only times I have trouble sleeping is when I am worried/obsessing about something. Most of the time I sleep well.

It's a common problem for many JUDDDers and IFers...we've discussed it a few times...
It may particularly affect women:

If you tend to skip breakfast and save up your calories for later, that could be contributing to the insomnia.
Eating protein for breakfast has helped some of us.
20-25g seems to be effective.
(less is not; more might be too many calories for a DD)
(If I eat just fat [like coffee & cream] or too many carbs, that doesn't break the cycle.)

I think I may have you beat in the sleep olympics!

I do take mag nightly and I have never yet been able to sleep-in since beginning JUDDD, I think the latest I have slept is 7:30 ish. So, I may fall asleep in a wink, but I am an early riser for sure.

I had DD insomnia for a while. Just had a night of it this past week, in fact. It's pretty common. I would say it's the biggest drawback I can think of to this plan, but I am too happy doing JUDDD to give it up, even for sleep!

I went through a long-ish period (years) of my life where it took me forever to fall asleep, and God Forbid that anything woke me up, light sleeper that I am, because it would take me another couple of hours to fall back asleep again, if I could. I can remember times when I was so exhausted I could have just wept, but my brain wouldn't go to sleep. I've read that this is a big female problem, regardless of how you eat, so definitely not just a JUDDD thing apparently. It affects many of us in our 30s-40s, and then often tapers away again.

I'm in my third year of JUDDD now, and sleep like a baby almost every night. But getting off of low carb helped me a lot. I think my body needed more carbs to build up better serotonin or something. LOL

I'm starting to wonder if its more hormonal than diet for me. If I was better at keeping track maybe I would have more of an idea but I do think I get worse the week or so before TOM
