Frame Size

It's been a while since we had a thread about our various body frame sizes. I was reading this thread My wife insists I gain 5+ pounds ... in the main lobby, and post 4 got me thinking.

I had measured my wrist before and it indicated I was large framed (which surprises me, as I feel like my frame is small for my height) so I measured again today and . . . still large framed. Then I googled the chart reddarin recommended, and according to that chart, with my frame and height, my ideal weight should be 149 - 170. This sounds right to me, as I've been below 150 and was too thin, and I feel like I'd be fine where I am or with just 5 - 15 more pounds off. At 160, I'd be right smack dab in the middle of that chart's version of my ideal weight. I think I like that particular chart the best.

Anyone else surprised by their actual frame size/ideal weight compared to their personal body image?

My frame is small according to these wrist measurements. This always shocks me, because I grew up feeling like a very sturdy girl/woman.
It recommends 126-139 for me. I'll bet I belong smack in the middle. That's where I feel best.
I love these games.

I have very thin wrists and it put me in the small category. But think I'd fit better in the medium range, which is also the same as my goal weight (135-138lbs). I can't imagine getting lower than that-it just wouldn't look good on me.

I'm 5'4" with a 5-3/4" wrist. The chart says I should weigh 114-127. I just hit 127 and would like to be 120-122, so looks like I'm being realistic.

Plus I'd like to be able to take my wedding ring off once in a while. I was about 108-111 when I got married.

I find this pretty interesting. I am a small frame size, my wrist are just under 6". My height is 5'8.5", I have always weighed around 130-135 for most of my life. When I hit the age of 50, I started gaining like crazy. All my bad eating habit finally caught up with me. That and menopause. Before that I could eat anything and never gained any weight.
Now I don't think I would look good at that weight even though my range is suppose to be 128-140. My plan is just to lose until I think I look my best and I can maintain the weight easily.
I am just grateful that I found this site and the plan seems to work for me.

Well, it looks like I stopped a little too soon. But after the first of the year I can start my weight loss phase again. I am pretty happy where I am but I could easily lose another 5 pounds and get where I should be.

I'm 5'2" and wrist is 6 and a 1/4. That puts me at medium. Says weight range is 118-132. Isn't my wrist too big since I'm still a bit overweight? There is no way that in 5 lbs I could be at goal, but maybe 112 is a bit low. I said I would re-evaluate at 120lb, which would be low end of this range. I don't get how the wrist measurement is accurate unless you are already ideal weight

My wrists are 7" which is the same as when I was skinny. It recommends 143-163 which is very good for me. I maintained for years in the 140s with lots of exercise but always wanted to be under 130 so of course was still dieting like a maniac. Truth be told, I don't want to work that hard again unless it is my job.

In the link, the guy mentioned it was only accurate if you're at weight, but it gives a good guideline until then. That's why I measured again today after my weight loss because last time I measured I was significantly overweight. I currently have almost no fat on my lower arms/wrists, and my wrists still measure 7".

My wrists also measure just a tad smaller than 36 pounds ago. Strange but I am still a medium frame.
And I don't need to lose anymore. I went back and checked again to be sure and I had missed the part about 1 inch heels being factored into the height. So I am good at my current weight. right in the middle where I should be.

O.k., I'm starting to think I look like Humpty Dumpty. I'm about 50 lbs overweight according to the chart. I have a small frame, skinny legs and arms. Where is all the extra weight at? Could I be carrying it all in my waist? No wonder I have such a bad back.

I'm 5'3, medium frame, average of the range of weight is 125, so yeah that makes sense! I have too much muscle on me to be anything under 120, and i'm afraid if I got under that, i'd lose some muscle - no good!

I missed it too. By that calculation, I should be 152-173, though that's also with 3 pounds of clothes.

I don't see a recommended weight range? Can someone point me there? The charts I found just did wrist size & frame. I am chuckling b/c I USED to be 5'4" (as a teen) but think I've shrunk an inch or two in recent years. Both wrists measure 6.5, though. (and I do recall this from my thinner days...we'll see if it's true as I lose again) So I'm short & large framed? That just seems weird! Guess that cinches it, I really am a fruit loop!

Nevermind, I found it following your link to the posts! So I'm supposed to be 131-151 depending on which height I REALLY am now. lol! Makes sense. Last time I lost weight I got down to 139 and felt great there.

I know when I had my body fat and muscle measured once through electrical impedance by a dietician years ago when I was very lean, she noted I had about 5 lbs more muscle than most women my size, which is heavier, and that at 5'5" (bare feet), I could not go any lower than I was, which was around 132-134 and still have any cushioning! What I know from having been that weight was that ppl thought I was sick, and I certainly looked gaunt, esp. in my face. And ppl thought I weighed like 110 or 115! I have *always* been heavy for my size. Even now in the mid 150s, I have a 29 inch waist, wearing a size 8. I also know that gunning for a really low weight for me means constant vigilance and, as Cici noted: WORK! And it can backfire, with overeating, screw it! eating when the dieting gets too tough. Now maybe JUDDD will be different. I remember reading somewhere, Catherine DeNeuve I think, that at a certain age, you have to choose between your face and your bum... and I do not want to have that gaunt face again. So long story short, I am now thinking of aiming for the higher end of the medium range, around 139-141, although my original goal, as on my ticker, was 135. That should have me back in most of my clothes, and if some of my smallest clothes gotta go, they gotta go.

I am learning that for myself as well Toora. I'm feeling like the low end of my range would be too low and I'd be a wrinkled mess.

Interesting. Either I measured wrong all those months ago or I have lost about 1/2 inch from my wrist. 6 inches makes me a medium frame with a range 124 - 138. I have easily maintained at 128 so I am right on track.

Wow.

I never, truly never, thought I would ever say that.

Really good perspective, Toora. I will be curious to see how my face and neck look as I near goal weight. As much as I want a trim little butt, I do NOT want a chicken neck and gaunt, wrinkled face!

Well I'm a complete idiot because I cannot understand how to do the elbow measurement! Extend your arm, bend it and touch your elbow with the same hand?! FFS, if I could do that I wouldn't be on a weight-loss site! I might join the circus, as a side attraction!

Ok, I think I've got it, lol. It seems to indicate that I'm small framed, just. So 114-127 is what I should weigh. I think it's a tad smaller than I want to weigh...but it depends on how my face starts to look at near goal...I'd be happy with 125 IF I could maintain it.
