New To JUDDD with questions

Hello, I am new to JUDDD, coming off of a round of HCG I completed a few weeks ago. Today is my 2nd DD and I hope to lose 15-20 pounds, even if it takes a while to happen. I am trying to average between 1800-2000 on Up days and 500 or below on Down Days. I am 5'7" and currently weigh 168. My main question is, for the down days, do I have to wait until dinner to eat or is it okay to spread my calories out during the day? Also, of course nutritious food is best to eat, but if I have 50 calories left in a day and want to fill it with a small treat, like a piece of candy or something, is that okay? My understanding is that you can eat what you want, within reason, as long as you are cycling the calories correctly. I am very excited about this diet because I am tired of feeling so restricted, it makes losing weight hard to stick to. WIth this, I feel like it is really just one day at a time.

canadiangirl 11-16-2012 07:27 AM

You can eat your 500 calories however you choose. Some like to have 100 calorie mini meals throughout the day, others like myself try to hold off as late as possible before eating calories. I sip coffee and water all day and that seems to do it until dinner time for me. I find the nibbling makes me more hungry as I always want more. I also try to stay busy and out of the kitchen on DD's until I have to make the family dinner!

:welcome:

You can eat whenever and whatever you want on DDs and UDs. Many of us choose protein first on DDs for the satiety, but I like protein and bulk. It's a great opportunity to find out what works for you to keep you satisfied, without the HCG (which I admittedly know virtually nothing about).

If you haven't gone to Dr. Johnson's website and entered your stats, I recommend you do it to get your actual calorie allotments. If you need help, we'll also need age and gender along with height and weight.

Enjoy! JUDDD is the best!

:welcome: I just started JUDDD a few days ago and it's an awesome WOE :D I've found that small portions spread throughout the day work best for me. I start at around 9am and wrap it up at 7pm. I also try to eat healthy, but don't feel any guilt about having a diet hot cocoa with cool whip either

AWholeNewWorld 11-16-2012 07:35 AM

Thanks, I did go to the site and I believe my Up day calories were 1870ish and my Down day calories were about 360 for the fastest weight loss. I decided to be "rogue" and change the numbers around for a bit because on another discussion I saw that 2000/500 was sure to work for anyone, maybe just slower. I guess time will tell, but I am not in a super hurry and I just started so I will see how things go. As long as I lose the weight by spring/summer of next year then I think that would be a success story! :) Realistically I probably won't reach 2000, my Up Days so far have been about 1800.

Thanks, I have been eating throughout the day as well, but then I read about it disrupting the "fasting" so I am confused on what is the best method. I appreciate everyone's input! ;)

:welcome:! I think you're going to really like this WOE! You're used to restricting calories, so every other day shouldn't be a problem. And the UDs are so freeing. Eat what you want, within your calories. You'll likely soon find that you want healthier, fresher foods. Yes, treats allowed! It's great!

Zib 11-16-2012 07:51 AM

You'll like this as it's a very forgiving way of eating. I try to eat my calories between 2-4pm as that was the suggestion of Dr. Krista Varady in Chicago. (She was the one interviewed in "Eat, Fast, and Live Longer".) Some days I have a mini-meal at 11, another at 1:30 and a last at 3:30 or so. Other days I have 2 larger meals. It's about what works for you, on % of cals for down days and how you eat those cals.

Welcome!

Hi there! I'm new, too, so wanted to give a shout out!

Seabreezes 11-16-2012 12:04 PM

I believe that anything under 500 calories is considered a fast. I think people get confused with IF and JUDDD. There is not a set time to eat and not eat on like there is on IF where you use a window of time.

Let me know if I am incorrect on IF.

You will love this WOE! It has become ALMOST effortless for me in a month! I used to feel guilty when I would eat because I, like many, have struggled with my weight my whole life. I am coming from a few years of Atkins on and off, and my body functions best on LC, so I try to stick to under 50/day or so on UDs, but I am not worried about the holidays and eating ..just plan r
my rotations carefully, and I know I'll be fine! A big BIG deal to me has been learning to expect the 'bounce' in my weight: the up-and-down pattern that has happened almost daily for me. Try not to be alarmed by that because it will happen, and it's just the nature of JUDDD! Check out my avatar (my weight report for my first month). Enjoy yourself and please don't be shy around your JUDDD Buds! We are all in this with you!

What?! 15 lbs in a month?!:eek: That's amazing!!:jumpjoy::jumpjoy:

Welcome WNW!! What should we nickname you? ;) Newsy? :D I'm just starting JUDDD too, this week! Let's do this!!:high5:

That's a much better idea than AWhole, which was my first thought.

I just wanted to throw in that I ate approximately 400 skinny cow ice creams during my first three months, on UDs and DDs. It was ridiculous, but it seemed like part of the grand scheme of things.
Finding out what works for you and when is one of the exciting parts of this WOE.
We'll look forward to learning from you. :)

deerhunterswife 11-16-2012 04:59 PM

I feel stupid asking but what is "juddd"?

Joyjoy 11-16-2012 05:09 PM

Deer, there's a sticky near the top of the board called What Is Judd: Come In And See, or something similar.
I'll warn you, though, if you read it you might be tempted to join us. A whole lotta fun goes on here. :)

Librarygirl 11-16-2012 05:14 PM

LOL, Kristin. Your nickname might not stick. ;) 400 skinny cows?! Surely you jest!

Joyjoy 11-16-2012 05:17 PM

I do not jest. It's possible I exaggerate, but I really am not sure. I had a bit of a problem with them. Ate a box at a time, some days. My name is Kristin and I was a cow-a-holic.

Bows1 11-16-2012 05:26 PM

:) I'm thrilled with my loss, but I know it isn't typical and I also know that it won't continue; this was my first month! I also ate to my calories via the calculator which are 452/2250, which was so tough to accept at first (still is!). Eat according to the calculator, then if that isn't working for you, consult some of the experts here! They certainly got me started on the right foot!

theredhead 11-16-2012 06:19 PM

I'm 5'7", too, and started JUDDD right after my umpteenth round of hCG. I also did 500 calorie DDs and 1800-1900 UDs for several months and got to my goal easily. I've been maintaining really well, and have felt great, for all of 2012. Now I eat 600 calorie DDs and whatever I want on UDs. (I put away 3000 calories regularly, but I occasionally have to dial it back a bit, too. It's very flexible.)

You can do this. Don't worry about messing up. If you do, start over tomorrow. And remember, on the DDs, you can avoid overeating by remembering that you can eat tomorrow. Sure beats hCG!

Carly 11-16-2012 06:52 PM

You can eat anything that works for you and your calories at what ever time works for you. It's 10 pm here and all I've had is a cup of tea and a cup of broth. Soon I'll get off this iPad and eat my 95 calorie bedtime snack and if I'm still hungry which I sometimes am I have a bunch of celery sticks all cut up in the fridge in a bowl of water. After all it will be an UD as soon as I wake up.

Week 1

Well, today is one week into JUDDD and I am down exactly 2 pounds and yesterday was an UP day, so that was surprising. I am a daily weigher (got into the habit with HCG and can't get out of it) so the JUDDD bounce can be discouraging but I try to look at the big picture. I have a calendar where I write each day's calories and the weight if I weigh myself which is mostly every day. I think 2 pounds is great, especially for someone with not a lot to lose and who just came off of a diet so I don't have that initial water weight loss. I am excited to see what the future holds! :D

LoCarbGal 11-21-2012 12:06 PM

You are doing great! Those kind of results really keep you going, huh?

Kissa 11-21-2012 12:39 PM

KUTGW.

Hi Laurie:hiya:

When you jumped from HCG to JUDDD...did you follow P3 guidelines? Or did you start with any starch or sugar? Do you do JUDDD in general, or is it LC JUDDD

Hi:hiya:

Two lbs. is awesome!

Are you following P3 protocol, or are you just following basic JUDDD? LC JUDDD? I am on my 3rd day on JUDDD...Friday was my last HCG dose.

Thanks!

I did P3 for a little over a week but I did not follow guidelines at all. (This was my round 2). I had some starch and sugar (OFF PROTOCOL) and it did not affect me. I maintained but wanted a way to lose more weight over the holidays without doing HCG and found JUDDD. I went into it head first eating whatever I wanted and so far it is working! :)

ETA: I would not suggest anyone going off protocol, it is at your own risk! This was my round 2 and I wanted to experiment and luckily, it all worked out.
