Why Wouldn't You Count Butter In Coffee?
I want an answer fast, lol, PLEASE. Trying to drink my coffee with unsweetened almond milk and it is unpalatable. Plus, I think I might need the calorie boost. I saw where someone said they weren't counting their morning cup...and I can't find it again. If you don't count, why? Thanks!!!!

I count everything too, a cup of coffee with splenda and 10% cream is how I drink it, cream is 20 calories. I use about 100 calories up during the day just in my cream but I will sip on coffee till late afternoon!

Have about decided that I won't drink coffee on DD's. It was disgusting, lol. I like a lot of cream and I can't justify the calories.
Plus I have to have cream that works. Even whole milk tastes nasty to me, because it's not creamy enough. |

Maybe not the best alternative, but you could use the almond milk and add a tablespoon of coffee mate to make it creamier for just a few calories.
1T fat free coffee mate is 10 calories I believe. |

Might try that next DD, or if I feel like having some tonight. I think I must have been drinking about 1/2 c of cream in my coffee usually, lol. Tried a cap full and some almond milk...threw out the whole cup.

I think it was my post you are referring to. I sometimes drink bullet proof coffee (1T unsalted butter and 1T CO) and don't count the calories. Here's a link to a thread that discusses it. I'm in the minority of those who do this, and I don't do it very often, but try to do high fat DDs every few weeks to boost fat burning.
Bullet-Proof Coffee... do we count the calories? |

I mean the powder, not the liquid. The liquid has never "done it" for me
![]() I was raised on the powdered stuff, but it adds some body to the fat free liquids like almond milk and fat free half and half. |

For me, I decided the calories are worth it because if I drink coffee w/ half and half or cream, I get major appetite suppression for hours. Even if I go over my 25% DD calorie allotment by a bit because of the coffee, I think the increased energy and ability to kill cravings for junk food is worth it. JMHO!! |

I can't drink coffee without cream either. I have a container each of half and half, and heavy whipping cream in my fridge. One for the Up days, and one for the Down days.

lots of people have little "tricks" counting this and not counting that. the most common is counting fiber even if we don't digest it...
what it comes down to is a tool that works for them, but it's not TRUE in a metabolic sense. If you are low carbing and you only count half your carbs and eat 40 grams a day and call it 20, all that means is that you can really eat 40 grams a day, right? and if you count 20 grams a day and only ten of that is useable carbs, then you are only getting ten grams. but some people find it works better to tell themselves something different. we shouldn't say that's bad, if it works! as long as they don't blame the plan if it doesn't work and they didn't adhere to it. the same goes for calories. what is, is, and "counting" it differently from that is only ok if it somehow helps you.

I started drinking bpc again and I don't count the MCT oil/EVCO. I do count butter or hwc. I agree with Yam, that it is very satiating if you need something to hold you over until breaking fast.

Also, I meant to say that most of the BPC folks on paleo threads or NK don't count the oil because they are vlc. If you consume carbs, then you really should count every calorie of both butter/oils.

Good point! I'm glad you brought that up because, since fats don't affect blood sugar levels, they don't really "break a fast" according to PJ, right?

Yes, and I am thankful to find the bpc because it really can do just the trick.
Another thing that helps me in the afternoon is 1 tbsp of HWC with my 0 calorie Root Beer by Virgils. Taste as rich as any root beer float. Today for lunch I had the Cherry Vanilla Creme soda by Blue Sky zero calories w/ 1 tbsp of hwc and it truly was a treat! 50 cals never tasted so yummy! |

I gave up coffee on DDs. I only want it with half and half and more than 1 Tbs
I thought I would die, but nope! I have crazy energy on DDs and now I like UDs cause I have a really good iced coffee with plenty of half and half as soon as I get up! I went through a phase of not liking UDs too much, because I felt sluggish, now I get a jolt of creamy caffiene so I like UDs now |

I agree, almond milk tasted awful to me.
I just drink a latte w milk. However, I did come up w an alternative for DD; I bought some Twinings chai tea bags and use So Delicious coconut creamer which is 10 cals/Tbsp. |

This is one of those YMMV things. Some stall, others can handle the extra fat.
The pancreas does, in fact, respond to fat since it produces lipase....and if it responds to sweet taste, EVCO has that, as well. You can't just go by what you read.....only your own experience. |

When the coconut crack/ coconut bark was all the rage I totally stalled out. My body registered all the fat/calories/whatever. Everyone is different though. I'm uneffected by most carbs, others have a totally different reaction.

![]() Carly, were you consuming more than a tbsp? Just curious because I sometimes do not add the oil, but when I do it is just one. |

I just try to eat in balance and moderation. Awake this is not an issue. I can't quite account for what I will do when I sleepwalk so I minimize potential risk. (ie: no coco crack in the fridge)

I have also fallen in love w/ the cream soda, lemon-lime and cherry vanilla floats.
I have tried Zevia, Blue Sky, & Dr. Virgil's zero cal soda & they are all wonderful! ![]() |

coconut milk refrigerated creamer is much thicker but still very low cal. I don't drink coffee, but have friends who have successfully switched from heavy cow's cream to the coconut milk creamer. worth a shot
