Ways to pep up chicken broth?

I'm trying chicken broth for the first time ever right now, and it's quite bleh. What do add to your broth to give it pep?

I had this for lunch today..
-I steamed a cup of chopped broccoli, added it to the boiling broth then some pepper and a tiny bit of parmasan cheese.
-Another yummy addition is a scrambled egg, gives an egg drop soup.
-any veggie of your choice
-a splash of hot sauce (someone here also mentioned adding ACV to give a hot and sour taste)
-a tiny bit of left of chicken breast along with some veggies for a more hearty type soup.

Thinly sliced serrano peppers. A whole pepper is 2 calories, and you really only need 1/4 to 1/2 of one depending on how spicy you like it. I lived on that in the early days. Of course I LOVE spicy food.

I like a dash of chili oil in mine and lots of black pepper with some scallions, chopped mushrooms and sometimes a beaten egg.

--Splash of light cream or half-&-half
--Hot sauce; I like the "Tiger Sauce" in chicken broth
--A little pickled or grated fresh ginger
--A squeeze of lemon; this really "brightens" it. A Yugoslavian friend of mine made an excellent, simple soup of chicken broth, broccoli, and fresh lemon.
--Some Thai red curry and or "lemongrass splash"--it's for salad, I think, but it's nummy in chicken broth.

I use McCormicks red pepper flakes we are attached at the hip. I use it on everything. I also add garlic powder and onion poweder. Sometimes I use Spikes.

Yeah but that doesn't exactly "pep" it up!

And, it's not really like "eating"; it's just chewing, cuz shirataki doesn't have (m)any calories.

Oh, another thing I do is grate a few ounces of zucchini/courgette (only 4-5 calories per oz) into the broth and simmer til tender. They feel/taste quite a bit like noodles.

I use Better than Bouillon (I think PJ recommended it). It's really pretty good on it's own. I don't add anything because I'm hoping not to break the fast. I usually drink it when I have the shivers at work. I'm kind of freezing right now!

Here is what I just tried for the first time.

Poured fat free low sodium chicken broth into a huge mug and microwaved it for about 50 seconds 'til drinkably warm.

Added one teaspoon coconut oil and stirred 'til melted.

Sprinkled in a generous bit of oregano.

Sprinkled in a dash of sea salt.

Stirred in half a cap full of ACV.

Really good! And it's taming the hunger beast!!

I love the taste of better than bouillon, but I'm afraid to drink any on DDs now because it seems to mess with the scale the next day. (I know it's not *real* weight, but still)

Penzy's Rogan Josh spice. It rocks! I think it's for some mid-eastern lamb dish but adding it to chicken or beef broth makes it taste like it's got meat in it. Works to fool my brain! I also always add vinegar for some pep.

I roast a chicken with different herbs in the crock pot, then I pour off the liquid and on my DD's I mix it with low sodium chicken broth I get from Trader Joe's...2 parts broth to 1 part liquid. The liquid from the crock pot is too "rich" and the broth from the carton is too bland but together they are so good! And so low cal!

I'm so glad you posted this question because I have recently discovered chicken broth (especially with veggies) goes a long way, particularly when I'm cold.

I make my chicken broth from Herb-Ox boullion cubes and it's tasty and salty. I like salt.

You can simmer the broth with some carrot, celery, onion and/parsnips. You can either the vegetables afterwards or discard them. Some spinach would make anice addition to the soup.
