Is it recommended to buy the book? Thanks for reading! |

Moe,
I was able to find the book at my library. That way I could see if I wanted/needed to buy the book. Turns out I don't need the book!! But it was interesting reading. I suggest you look first at your library. |

Hello and welcome
This is a supportive group. Take ur shoes off, sit a spell. Smile.
As always hanging out here u will learn tons! My memory serves me. Ms SoHappy states that the internet tells mostly what the book tells. I agree with her. I bought the book, i like to hold paper I guess. Save urself some dollars. |

Hi all. I've been reading through this forum since I started JUDDD on Monday. I've had a harder time losing weight on LC since being diagnosed hypothyroid several years ago. I used to be able to drop weight quick on Atkins, but now LC seems to do little for me. I tried WW, but found too many foods I eat had high point values, and I just never felt satisfied. This is my 3rd DD. I keep track of my calories using an app on my phone. So far I've been eating 500-600 calories on DD and around 1800 on UD. This morning I am hungry! But I like to hold off eating until lunch. I want to lose 30lbs. I've enjoyed reading through the posts (recipes, food ideas, how much people have lost, the potato thread, etc) and hope to start contributing as well.
Thanks. UpDown Elizabeth |

Welcome to all the Newbies!
Lovely to see how well you're already doing!I found the book useful because understanding the science behind why JUDDD works helps me to stay on plan. However, there's tons of valuable info here on these boards, so I come to my JUDDD Buddds for support and advice. I wish you all a very enjoyable JUDDD journey. ![]() |

Hi and welcome Maura and Elizabeth. Two lovely names.
Maura, I don't think the book is that great, but all info is useful I guess. I don't agree with all his 'science' but it is some years now since he wrote it. I would try the Library first. But with his site and this forum you can learn everything, and more! I really hope this works well for you both, it is interesting how many of us who loved Atkins have stumbled after many years of success. JUDDD doesn't work for absolutely everyone, but if you can make it work for you it is a wonderful, wonderful way to live.

Maura and Elizabeth!Maura, don't be mad at yourself for going over on your UD! You're just getting used to rotations, and it takes awhile to adjust. The book - I bought it, and it's interesting, but now I don't refer to it at all and get all my info online, mostly here! Elizabeth, DDs are hungry sometimes, especially in the beginning. Your body will adjust and you'll feel completely different soon, if you just give it time. Way to go both of you for starting this WOE! Looking forward to getting to know you both better!

Hi Maura and Elizabeth!!
![]() I am new, too and trying to get the hang of welcoming my hunger and thinking of it as a positive thing on my DD's instead of freaking out and thinking I am gonna die! I can live off myself for a very, very long time. It's funny I have told only two people about this.. BOTH of them think it's the best idea, and are trying it. One is my DH, which is VERY helpful.. and the other is a dear girlfriend who I thought would label me as crazy. I truly am flabbergasted! I wish you both much luck and look forward to getting to know you!!

Elizabeth and Maura!I bought the book for $4 and change on the website that starts with an A. It's not required reading, but it is a short, easy read. I lost 25 pounds on JUDDD before I got it, but felt like I wanted to read parts for myself since some things sounded a bit like "Urban Legand" to me, but yes, you can learn everything and MORE from here and Dr. J's website. |

Hi everyone
Wanted to get your opinions on where I should start, though. I am down to my last pounds to lose, do you think I should start around 35% weightloss mode which the calculator shows at 555 on down and 1585 on up or go lower on down days? I'm planning my days out this weekend and want Monday to be first down day and am pretty excited about the challenge. Have been reading lots of great info here and have about 20 tabs open to other threads reading more lol. |

Hi Zag! You really are close to your goal! I can't provide you with any real perspective on where to start, because I'm still very far from my goal, but just wanted to welcome you and wish you luck!

Zagirl. I have fallen in love with you kitten, what is she? She is soooo pretty.Hope you love JUDDD like we do. I would start at the 25% mark if I were you, although for the first 2 weeks you should only aim for 500 cal DownDays which is probably higher than your number will be. If you are comfortable with slower losses then of course go with the 35%. |

everyone!!! Thanks for the warm welcome. I have calculated my calories @ 20% and they come to 378/1888. I am assuming you start on a DD? Since it is December 1st I would love to start today. I am going to attempt 500 for today then on Monday go to 378. I work 6 days a week so DDs while I am at work will be easy since I already experimented with fasting and after BP coffee in the morning was not hungry until around 4:30. Anyway, I will see how today goes! You are all so helpful and encouraging. I hope to be closer to my goal by the end of the month with this awesome plan ![]()

Thanks for the welcomes! I may even start a DD today instead of Monday and will take your advice Cindy and start at 500 for a few weeks, then go to 25% instead of 35%.
The cat in the pic is a rescue we found starving outside a few months ago. She is part Maine Coon we believe, may even be pure bred but I doubt someone would dump a pure bred out. She's finally getting to a healthy weight and will be a huge cat lol. She's a sweetheart and it's fun (and freaky) to hear her "talk", her meows sound like words sometimes and she chirps lol She also loves water so she jumps in the shower with anyone that's in there Good luck Kismet on starting today! I'm right there with you |

Zag! I agree after 500 for 2 weeks try 20% or 25% before jumping up to 35%. The lower DDs help the SIRT1 enzymes to get flowing and those are what make this WOE a joy! |

Zag and Kismet, I'm on my second 500 calorie dd today, so I'm just getting started, too. I'm here so early in the morning because I'm nervous! I have to grocery shop for a church dinner today. I'm used to only shopping on a full stomach. Anyway, hanging out here for a few minutes this morning has me encouraged. I'm committed that December will be my month of JUDDD and hopefully by January 1st I'll love it and have results to show for it!

Kismet, welcome! I am new but don't think you should have two down days in a row like that. Maybe an expert will chime in, but part of the magic is having the necessary calories on your up day.

Hi all you lovely Newbies, we do recommend starting with an UD so that you get to enjoy a great day of lovely nourishing foods to remind how generous JUDDD is. But if you haven't been dieting then it is okay to start with a DD.
Dr J recommends 500 cal DDs to begin simply because most people find it difficult to fast initially. But if you can manage lower then that is fine. He says that full fasting is the ideal, but for most of us not practical. Kismet, I have to say that I agree with Judy, it isn't wise to start off with 2 DDs. Be gentle with yourself. Ease into this slowly and remember 'This is not a race." |

Sorry to sound confusing. I meant Sat DD, Sun UP, Mon, DD, etc. Or when people start do they have 2 UD in a row? I will read over the info on the website again tonight and tomorrow will look for the book at the bookstore. If I can't find it I will order it from Amazon since it is only around 5 bucks. Thanks again!
