Lisa/DrwhoTardisRose and what a success story with which to introduce yourself. KUTGW (and, for future reference, acronyms). It's such a relief to know that there is a WOE that other perimenopausual/menopausal women have trialled and discovered to be successful, isn't it.

I hope that you and JUDDD continue to find that you're well suited to each other.

Morning all. How long does it take for these Sirtins to kick in? I.ve been on plan now alternate day fasting. 500/1800 and I haven't lost an ounce in 2 weeks. I want to give it a good try but don't feel very encouraged not to have lost anything I.ll weigh again tomorrow after my DD but just wondered what others experience was. I know its the bouncing scales and everyone is different but guess wanting some hope lol

2-6 weeks to kick in, tho' Dr Johnson mentions this in his book, he only suggests a 2 weeks induction to get used to the habit of doing EOD rotations.

Adi didn't lose anything at all during induction, lost after that, and she's now a stalwart maintainer.

Lisa! Wow, you are having wonderful results! You'll find so much support and info. I literally owe my success to this wonderful group of gals (and a few wonderful guys). I never would have or could have kept going without their input, advice, and encouragement. I hope you can get the same!

I agree with Slow on the Sirtuins. And also that there have been several of our successful losers who didn't see much happening in the first few weeks. Hang in there! It may be about to really hit and start happening for you!

The other thing is your calories. I can't remember your stats, but could it be you are not quite at the right level? Did we check that out for you?

Thanks Slow and locarbgal I have struggled so much with my weight since entering into perimenopause....I have literally tried it all I was starting to think I would have to accept myself as being heavy. I am 5'2 and weigh 156 as of this morning When I started JUDDD I weighed 168...so for the weight to be coming off at all is a miracle!! I am blessed to have found this site

Lola what are your stats? Age, height, weight. Are you using the calories you got from Dr. Johnson's calculator?

Hello, everyone!

I learned about JUDDD over on another site. They do have an IF/JUDDD group but it is nowhere near as active as this one!

February will be my first full month of JUDDD. I have been doing 16:8 IF for a few months, because it comes natural to me. I tried to do 500 calorie days a few times, but by 3pm I give up. Funny thing is, I am not starving at that point, it is all psychological! But I really feel this group will give me the accountability to push through!

I am 185 lbs currently, aiming for 130, which would put me smack dab in the middle of optimum BMI for my 5'4'' height.

I am very excited to get started! Tomorrow is my first fast day --- I am Orthodox Christian, and we are supposed to fast on Wednesdays and Fridays anyways, so I figured I would do MWF to start.

ETA: According to the IIFYM TDEE calculator with my body fat percentage included (~47%), my TDEE is 1832. So I am aiming for 1800/450.

Interesting... It says 2000 UD and 400 DD. But it doesn't take into account my body fat %.

Should I just go with the JUDDD calculator?

I would go by Dr. Johnson's calculator. UDs are slightly higher than TDEE maintenance to allow your body to realize it's not in a famine situation. I think if you trust the process, you'll be pleased with the results.

elisheva. I hope that you enjoy JUDDD as a way of eating and that you are able to assess whether it's a good fit for you and your life.

I agree with Carly and Dawn. If you follow the Johnson calculator for at least the induction period, then you can reassess at the end of that time. We tend to advise not tweaking kcal levels until you have to as it's plausible that it preserves metabolic flexibility if we can maintain our higher kcals levels for as long as we're still showing losses of one sort or another.

How did you assess your body fat %?

I used an online calculator (Marines I think?) and a body tape measure, so not incredibly accurate.

Looking forward to the encouragement your alls posts and threads here will provide, thanks for having me!

brainardt and congratulations on reaching your 3rd DD.

I hope that you enjoy your induction and will learn enough along the way to decide whether JUDDD is a good fit to you and your lifestyle.

Any questions, do speak up and post often in the Feb Newbies thread so that more people have an opportunity to meet you and give advice in a timely manner.

Hi, ladies! Just thought I'd pop in and introduce myself -- tomorrow is my first down day.

If you look at my profile you'll see I joined this forum back in 2007, when I went on Atkins! I lost 34 pounds (was at 141) by 11/07, and I ended up holding steady at 145, thanks to a low-carb way of life, until last year.

About six months ago I moved in with my fiance. I'm not sure exactly what went awry, but my weight SHOT UP! And this time around, maybe because I'm already pretty low-carb (I never brought starches or sugar back into my life), Atkins Induction seems to be stopping my weight GAIN but not doing much to reduce the number on the scale. Sigh.

WORSE yet, I'm getting married in seven months -- AND I GOT MEASURED FOR THE DRESS BEFORE I GAINED TWELVE OF THESE POUNDS! EEK!

Anyway, I'm terrible at counting calories -- would much rather count carbs any day -- but when I realized that was what I need to try next, I remembered all teh discussions of intermittent fasting I'd read back when I was hanging out on this and the other big low carb board. So I came poking around and found you all! JUDDD / EOD calorie restriction sounds so much more pleasant than every-DAY restriction! I do hope to remain at 25g of carbs or less a day, no matter whether it's an UD or DD -- but I see that plenty of others here also do VLC JUDDD.

Anyway, that's my long-winded intro. Looking forward to checking in regularly, and hopefully, to sharing SUCCESS with you lovely ladies!
