Thanks guys!

I am super hopeful that this plan and with support these stupid pounds will go away!!

I worry a bit about my MD saying there has been some concerns with patients developing eating disorders, but it can't be a disorder if it turns into a healthy way of life, right??

One question though. Do you ladies just stick to 500 cals on down days? Or do the formula? The formula has me at about 350 cals on down days whereas my MD said just stuck to 500. What to do??

Start at 500 for two weeks unless you find you feel comfortable going lower sooner. My first DD wasn't too hard and I ended around 400. Once you figure out what keeps you satisfied, I think you'll find you can have less and less. Some never go below 500 and it works for them too. Just depends on your comfort level and your metabolism. Best of luck, and !

When I first started, I didn't realize that you were supposed to ever go lower than 500, and so I stayed there until I figured it out, and was losing great. But I started at 264 pounds too. I actually think if I had known you were supposed to go lower, I might never have dived in, so I'm thankful I was a bit oblivious! Dawn is absolutely right. Do your two weeks at 500 and see how your results are. If you're losing nicely, stay there. There's always time to lower if/when you find your losses slowing or stopping.

Welcome Sunshine, I am sure that JUDDD will work its magic for you. I doesn't sound as if you are carrying that much extra weight as you are nice and tall, but we all want to feel and look our best.

I look forward to watching your progress. I started at 500 and quickly found I was happy with less.

Hi. I've been doing low carb for 14 years. After a while it stopped working as a weight loss tool for me. I've recently tried the Fast Diet and lost 14 pounds in two and a half months. Not entirely sure how to use this bb.

Hi Decorah, and ! You've done great so far in losing and on the Fast Diet! You are not alone in stalling out on LC. I did too, after 54.5 pounds lost. I think I was eating too many calories and too much protein and not enough fat, looking back. Anyway, I stumbled onto JUDDD and the rest is history.

Please post wherever you want to in our JUDDD board. Ask questions, read as much as you can. We love new joiners and watching people learn about and begin enjoying the benefits of JUDDD, ADF, or IF in any form!

Thanks for the Welcome

Thanks for the welcome. I made up "sausage hash" for dinner. Ground potatoes and cauliflower, a little onion and a little bulk sausage. I started it in a skillet, than transferred it to a skillet to brown it. about 170 calories a serving.

Not really a newbie but I'm coming back

I stalled out in my third week of my Atkins Induction restart. I was getting really frustrated so I decided to add JUDDD into the mix to kick start my metabolism. I am going to try JUDDDing for a few weeks and then if there is still no progress I will switch to an Atkins fat fast.

Anyway today is day 1. I started out with a DD since I ate a lot yesterday.

Seems like I've tried everything, save for prescriptions like phentermine (which I will not do) and my body is determined to stay at 160!!

So, I'm hopeful and excited that this new regime will help me! I welcome any positive support and encouragement!

Hello,

I am restarting JUDD. I tried this woe in the past (a couple of years ago) and wasn't very successful, due to my half-hearted effort. I really didn't work the program.

I lot has happened in the past couple of years and I feel like I am in a much better place mentally to let JUDD do it's work. I recently purchased a BodyMedia which has really helped me get real numbers as far as how many calories I burn a day with and without excerise. It was a real eye opener for sure

So... I'm back and ready to loose the pounds for good.

Pamela

Pamela. I see your JUDDD numbers and hope they can work for you. You may be doing TONS of exercise to get them that high. I'm younger, taller, and weigh a tiny amount less than you, and I maintain on fewer calories than that, so I just wanted to throw that out there. If they work, great. If not, you may need to adjust using the calculator for less or no exercise. Best of luck!

Hi Dawn ,

Using my BodyMedia my TDEE is 2300 per day on average over the last 28 days. I do exercise daily with cardio and weights; I do 10,000 steps daily (5+ miles daily) and I am adding in strength training this week.

So based on the above, what do you think would be a good starting point with my JUDDD numbers?

Okay I read a little bit more...(duh) looks like I should be at 20%-25% of my TDEE on DD which would put me between 460-575, so I'm going to go with 515 on my DD.

Does that look about right?

Sounds like an awesome place to start. I wish I had your drive! My TDEE's much lower, around 1700, but I am NOT at all consistent with exercise. You could even start at the numbers you have, and only adjust if you're not losing. Some are lucky and the calculator puts their calories lower than their actual needs. Sadly, that's not the case for most of us.

For now I'm going to play it safe and start low at about 500 on my DD. I really want to be successful this time.

I have to admit my motivation to move is so I can eat If I don't workout out my TDEE is very, very low.... it's very sad.

Thanks so much for your help, I do appreciate it.

Pamela! I agree with you on the moving in order to eat more! I didn't use to feel that way at all, but I was much bigger and moving wasn't fun. Plus I had lots of calories to play with at higher weights. Now I want to have that extra leeway on eating, so exercise is the answer! Good luck to you on this re-start!

Welcome Pamela! I'm another shortie here. I have a fitbit which calculates my calorie burn daily. On Sunday I ran 4 miles so my total for the day was 1,780. With no exercise I burn 1,590-1,680. So you can see that running 4 miles doesn't actually get me much extra food. I eat 1,550 5 days a week and 100-300 on the other 2 days to maintain. If you feel like losses are slow with the numbers you are starting with I would suggest using the juddd calculator numbers with little to no exercise. I never added exercise calories back in- especially during weight loss mode, because... I wanted to lose weight.

Pamela.

A number of us are JUDDD re-hooters *raises hand*. I tried JUDDD at the close of 2011 but I was eating too little for it to work properly, I didn't trust the process enough and life happened so I stopped.

I started JUDDD again for New Year 2013 and I made my goal (and beyond). There are other people who've re-booted successfully with JUDDD after a false start so I hope that you become one of them.

Good luck.

Hi Carly!!

I read your post last night before I went to bed, after my first DD which was 441 so I was very happy, any hoo I so appreciate you sharing with me.

I've been tracking my BMR/RMR/TEE for about 2 months now since I got my BodyMedia. I basically wear it 23/7. It even tracks how many hours I sleep ( I was very sleep deprived...lol) So my BMR is 1440 if I'm bascially lying down all day, my RMR is 1843 just a standard work day sitting (I work from home), if I add in exercise I burn any where from 2100 to 2550 averaging about 2250 or so. This morning I tracked my workout (I use DVDs) and I burned 504.

Still not real sure about how much to set my UD yet based on the above but I think I will shoot to keep it around my RMR.... I think.

Thanks so much for all the warm welcomes.... it is so nice to know that I am not the only re-JUDDer here

Not the right thread for it but somewhere I'd be interested/very pleased to read more about how you're getting on with your Body Media. I've read different reports of them.

My standing issue with all devices is that no monitor can work with paddling/swimming but I'm a little concerned about potential skin allergy issues with the way the armband has to be worn for a Body Media. Plus, I wonder how well the monitor compensates for perimenopausal or menopausal users who have frequent temperature fluctuations (*raises hand*) as temperature readings seem to be a fundamental way for the device to calculate BMR, exercise-related activity etc.

Oh, Slow, that didn't even occur to me. With my Raynaud's and Thyroid Disease, I bet it wouldn't necessarily be accurate for me, either. I'm not able to regulate my body temperature very well at all!

New here. Peri-menopausal. Getting tired of feeling bad and being overweight....but how does one go about it? I used to be able to lose weight...no problem. /It seems like peri-menopause has changed ALL the rules.
What is JUDDD?

Hi WhoIs! There's tons of info to read on the JUDDD boards, so dive on in and post on any of the threads that interest you. We love to meet new JUDDD BUDDDs!

JUDDD is the Johnson Up Day Down Day Diet (google and get to Dr. Johnson's site and read up on it there too). Basically we eat every other day (EOD) and fast EOD. Fasting means 500 calories for the first two weeks, and then you try and reduce it down to what the JUDDD calculator says is your DD (Down Day) calories.

Lots of us who are perimenopausal, or getting close to it, have found that JUDDD works wonders to get the losses going. It's been a life changer for me!
