Thanks for the encouragement, it was a little bit of a challenge but not too bad. I just made me a smoothy with my nutribullet just using water, kale, 1/2 banana, and some other frozen fruit. I hope I don't over do it today for the ud and keep it under 1800 calories. I've never been very good at trying to write down my calorie intake and keep up with it.

You're gonna get really good at it! I actually enjoy keeping track most days, but I didn't always feel that way. It makes me feel in control and at the command of this process. And for me, it's been essential in my success.

Welcome Fluffy and LGP. I agree - track your calories - it ends up being relatively easy as I think a lot of us do eat the same foods on a regular basis. Once you find something that satisfies your hunger and you enjoy it and know the calorie count without having to look - it gets easy to keep track. I like knowing how many calories I eat so I can learn what is high and low and doable! It's been an eye opener for me - good luck!!

I'm Lisa. I've been a member of low carb friends for a while and thought about JUDDD some but never gave it a try. Today is going to be my first DD. What I'm wondering is has anybody tried this when they had to watch their blood sugar. I am NOT diabetic I am what they call pre diabetic. I have been doing low carb up till now and plan on doing Judd low carb as well. I would love to know how everyone else has done. Thanks

Lisa! I noticed you're from Lees Summit - I grew up in Independence!

Lots of folks here do have to watch their blood sugar, and opt for a lower carb eating style while also doing JUDDD. I tend toward the LC most of the time, just because I'm used to it and love the food, and because my body feels better on less carbs. But I do eat bread occasionally and have desserts when I want them. I'm not diabetic or pre though.

Many JUDDDers have seen marked improvements in their blood sugar and even reversed their diabetes. Carly hopefully will chime in, she's one who is completely off diabetic meds since losing weight on JUDDD.

Keep reading as much as you can here and keep asking questions - that's what we're here for! Good luck!

Good Morning all

Here I am on day 1. Starting off like any other LC day and feeling very excited. Of coarse the UD is going to be simple for me. It's my 1st DD tomorrow that has me a lil scared

Really hopeful for tomorrow.
My question for today is: Am I supposed to eat 1553 calories today?
The calculator tells me that norm calories is 1553 & DD calories are 311
I usually eat around 1300 on a norm day. I'm 5'2", 136 lbs, 52 yrs old in Jan.
Is this really correct?

Thanks Carol

Seems like a lot to me. The only time I eat that many calories is when I cheat. Usually stay right around 1300 so this feels a bit scary to me. Guess it all balances out with the DD's.

Welcome winefairy! Yes, actually with your numbers totaling 1844, you have an average of only 922 a day. It will definitely work, and you get to enjoy a "normal" food day every other day!

When I started JUDDD I needed a byeatta injection 2 times a day for my diabetes. Now nothing and I don't even track carbs! JUDDD has changed my life!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm a little confused. I am 5'2 too and the JUDDD calculator said my UD is 2212 and DD is 442. Does that seam right? Just seams like a lot. I think I did well on my first DD....384. Carly....thanks for the info on sugar/diabetes, makes me feel better.

Yep, I agree with Carly. Sounds right. You're right about where I was when I started JUDDD and my calories were very similar. It DOES seem like a lot at first, but you can do it! Enjoy!

Well today didn't go well. Had a reaction to some medication and felt awful all day and ate way more than I should have. I'm just going to stay on plan and make tomorrow an UD as planned. Thanks for the answer to my question Carly and Carol. I know I could make tomorrow a DD but I have the month planned out around the holiday and family get togethers. Tomorrow is another day right.

Quick question....I know the saying don't mess with prefection BUT has anyone ever done JUDDD with mon-wed-fri being DD and tue-thur-sat-sun being UD all the time? It would make my life a lot easier. Sat ans Sun are the only 2 days I get to have dinner with my husband or really see him for that matter. I would love your input. Thanks.

Some do it and do well. Others have tried it and found they don't lose. You could try it and see how you do.

I jumped into JUDD three weeks ago and have posted some, but realized I never formally introduced myself. I'm 49 yo and live with DH, 4 Maltese dogs and 1 cat. We have no human children so the pets are our "furbabies"!

I've had a weight issue ever since first grade. Went from being the chubby child to overweight teen to obese young adult and then morbidly obese adult. I had high blood pressure, PCOS, insulin resistance and was well on my way to Type 2 diabetes. I had been on almost every diet and would lose a little but eventually gain it back. By the time I was 40 nothing seemed to work anymore or result in more than 10-15 pounds lost. In January 2005 I had gastric bypass surgery and went from 285 to 160 (I'm 5'8" so for me that weight was "thin"). I have been very compliant with the supplement regimen for WLS post-ops but still developed problems with anemia and do not absorb iron whether it be from supplements or food. The fatigue from the anemia coupled with a hip injury and falling into some bad old habits resulted in me not exercising and making bad food choices because I "wasn't well" or "needed a pick-me-up so I will feel better", etc. No surprise that over the past few years I gained back 50 of the 125 pounds I lost. In the stats of WLS having kept off a little over 50% of what I lost after 8 years is pretty good but I felt and looked like s--t and hated myself for gaining. So it was time to get healthy again. After consulting with a hematologist and being told I didn't meet the clinical criteria for anemia because my hemoglobin level was barely in the normal range (mind you everything else was in the toilet - iron level, ferritin/stored iron, etc) and my insurance wouldn't pay for iron infusions until it dropped below normal - I walked out of that appointment really ticked at him, the medical system and to some extent myself. I basically had to wait it out until I "crashed" and once the hemoglobin fell below 11 had a round of 8 iron infusions and started to feel like one of the living again.

Once my levels were back to normal and I had more energy and stamina I thought the weight would come back off - but it didn't. Started to follow LC again and lost 10 pounds but then months of nothing. At this point I feel total despair and that I'm stuck at 200 pounds forever. LC is something I can do well for awhile, but then do not feel satisfied plus it is hard to maintain with a job that includes a lot of travel (in rural areas). I wanted to find something I could do long-term and not feel totally deprived in the process. I've lurked around LCF for several years and would see posts from JBs but never really thought it could work. Plus there was something about the positive posts on the JUDD forum. I finally decided to give it a try and have lost 8.5 pounds in 3 weeks. I want this to work and am so afraid that nothing more is going to happen after this initial loss. I'm not going to lie, DD are hard and I'm still trying to find a groove that works best - eating 3 mini meals vs fasting all day and then eating dinner. Because of my surgery I no longer have a functioning pyloric valve in my stomach so liquids do not stick around very long. I used to be able to drink a protein shake and be full for hours, now I'm hungry within 30 minutes after drinking one. Also dealing with head hunger on DD is trying so still trying to find a way to shift my thoughts to something else.

Thanks for listening to me ramble....

Mary Ellen

Happy! It's a great plan to start this new WOE right after the Thanksgiving blowout, and all the yummy leftovers are gone. Good luck! Post often - it's a lifesaver!

Mary Ellen - wow, you have been through a lot, and I admire your tenacity. I would just say to relax, and don't let your fears and insecurities about the past even enter your head. Just trust JUDDD to do its work (some of which is internal healing) and stick with it, and you will be rewarded with good, steady losses.

Hi Happy, good to have you with us.

Mary Ellen, you have been through a lot and have done a wonderful job maintaining what sound like a good loss after your WLS.

It does take time to become comfortable with DDs for some people. As you say I am sure you will fine a routine that works for you. We are all different.

If head hunger is a problem, I always think coming here helps. Of course, real life needs us too, but everyone here is so supportive, a shout for encouragement seldom goes unanswered for long.
