Another Newbie

Hi Everyone!

I just finished my 2 week induction yesterday. I'm so happy to have found this WOE (and astonished at my progress). Like many who come here, I am peri-menopausal and had despaired at my ever being able to lose weight again. All the websites I had read said that it is very difficult to lose weight at this time of life, and even with strict adherence to portion control, exercise, etc., the best we could do is maintain. Before I started JUDDD, I was not technically overweight, so my doctor had no help nor advice to give on the subject either. I was right at the top of my weight range and had actually gone over by a few pounds into overweight territory for the first time in my life - unrelated to pregnancy, that is. (I do have a small frame, so at the top of the weight range for my height, I am overweight for my frame).

My two younger sisters who have not yet started perimenopause symptoms are overweight - one is obese, and both of my parents are overweight/obese. The only reason I am not is because I "watch what I eat" and/or diet most of the time. When I was younger (pre-perimenopause), I would easily gain weight, but I'd easily lose it as well, so I would bop up and down 5 or 10 pounds regularly. With each decade since my 20s, my "high" and "low" weights have also increased a few pounds. Since I turned 50 a little over 2 years ago, my "high" and "low" weights have been stuck in the low 40s, and over this past year, bumped up into the high 40s. With great determination, and much difficulty, I lost 3 pounds (from 147 down to 144) over a 3 month period eating 50% raw foods (in the past, I was most successful with lowER carb, but that hasn't worked for me recently, nor has Atkins induction levels of low carb). I love veggies, so the food was good, but my whole life was revolving around shopping and chopping and it just isn't a sustainable WOE for the rest of my life.

3 weeks ago, I decided to try the Dukan diet since some people seemed to have success on it during peri and even post menopause. I did the 3 day induction, and then lasted 3 more days on the diet before I bailed. I get migraines, and that WOE triggered a big one. I also felt sick - but not in a carb flu sort of way. I had learned a long time ago that I need a good percentage of fat in my diet to feel good, so I believe it was the 30% and lower fat macro that was making feel so terrible. During the week I was on Dukan, I learned about JUDDD, found this site and started reading. I was intrigued, but also worried that the DDs would trigger migraines. Still, I was so interested in finding a diet that was working for women going through the same kinds of hormonal challenges I'm going through, and a WOE for life that would allow me to participate in celebrations, go out to eat (which we do fairly often), and be able to try my husband's latest gourmet cooking fads.

I lost 2 pounds on Dukan after 6 days - but it was 6 days of misery, so I couldn't continue. I then did 2 days of "normal" calorie eating - which for me was about 1450/day and low to moderate carb. Since I started JUDDD two weeks ago, I've lost an additional 4.6 pounds - 2.6 of them this past week (!), eating moderate carb (up to 120 gms) on my UDs, and low carb (up to 15 gms) on my DD to help with appetite suppression. So far, so good. I am now at a weight I have not seen in two years! When I started this WOE 2 weeks ago, I thought to myself that even if I could hold steady at 142 by using JUDDD, I would do it (if DDs were tolerable and didn't trigger migraines), and I am more than astonished - thrilled really - that not only have I not gotten a single migraine, I have lost even more weight while eating carbs (!), desserts (very moderately), and basically enjoying it. DDs are not my fave, but they are totally worth it to be able to eat normally on the UDs.

I know I wrote a book here, but I'm so thrilled, and I can't thank all of you enough for patiently helping newbies, honestly telling your stories, and providing the best support group on the internet. (Oh - BTW, I really really paid attention to what the experts on JUDDD here advise, and I have been eating as close to all my UD calories as possible. I use the 25% number for calories on Dr. J's website, and the 1 to 3 times per week exercise level.)

Laura! Thanks so much for sharing your story. And I'm so glad you found JUDDD and our wonderful board here. I wish everyone knew about the marvelous results with very little "pain" we have with this WOE. You're doing great, and I hope you can continue to your goal and use it for stress free maintenance!

My turn to say hi

I'm Patti and I'm coming from a LC mostly Primal WOE. I started as LC in the beginning of this year and found that I felt much better when I also gave up most sugar substitutes and processed foods. Never had a problem with the "allowed" foods or the parameters, but the benefits I'd been experiencing have started to decrease.

50 of the 100lbs I'm hoping to lose have been gone as of July; which I'm absolutely psyched about! However, I no longer feel so full of energy and I'm finding that some of my aches and pains are creeping back.

I do track my food, so I know that theoretically all should be well, but I'm just not in love with the way I've been eating and it's time for a change. So...today has been my first day on plan and my first DD and it's been great! Mild hunger now and then, but nothing a glass of water and a distraction hasn't cured. Looking forward to the journey and continuing to read through all of the info you have all posted here!

Hi. I'm thinking go giving JUDDD a go. I've done Atkins for a couple of years with a period of 6 months when I was very lax!!! I've been a good girl for 2-3 months now and have lost 5kg. I'm thinking JUDDD could be very easy to do and also help with those days that I'm just not that good

Hey all

I've been lurking for a couple months but I think it's time step out of the darkness and say "Hi" to everyone whose posts I have been reading.

So, "Hi" everyone!!!!!

My DH and I are tired of being the way we were (you know how THAT is!!) so we have started JUDDD'ing together. It definitely makes it easier with both of us having the same DDs and I know having each other for support will make a world of difference but I also know that being able to see all that is possible with this WOE by what everyone is posting will add some extra "oomph" to MY program........

I've done Atkins over the years and have lost weight but JUDDD just seems to be working better for me, my personality, my work- and home-life. I love this forum and look forward to hanging out and being inspired!!!

WOE: Starting JUDDD 9/30/13 after 3 months Atkins
Start Date: 6-24-13
Well, a lot of the "regulars" from the JUDDD board now know me, but thought I'd introduce myself here to for everyone.

Started today, 9/30/13, after 3+ months on Atkins I dropped over 30 pounds on Atkins, from 235 down to what I weighed this morning, 197.2.

I decided to start JUDDD as I think it is a more reasonable lifetime plan vs. Atkins or other restriction WOE.

I am a 3rd year vet student, just starting surgery this semester. So a lot of my posts will include information about my escapades into that (anesthesia tomorrow for the first time, kind of nervous).

Hope all is well with everyone! And thanks for the welcome from y'all!

I've been posting on the board but never formally introduced myself.

Hi!

I'm no stranger to LCF, but I'm new to JUDDD. I've been yo-yo'ing for so many years and I'm hoping JUDDD will end that. So far, I'm really loving it.

I like to post, so I'm sure you'll see me around. If you don't, chase me down!

Hi gang,

I'm new to IF type of eating. I'm just trying to figure out a plan.

Hoping to get to know everyone.

If people gave me the 'stink eye' when they learned I was low curbing, I can just imagine what they'll do when they hear I'm fasting!
