Busy, busy, busy here. all you lovely NEWBIES

Lots of people here do Low Carb, either all the time or on their DDs.

Every other day rotations are certainly the recommended way to go but some prefer set DDs, Mon, Wed, Thurs and do okay.

I would generally only recommend 5:2 for maintainers. It does work foe many for weight loss but is a bit different from JUDDD.

Jump into the July Newbie thread and get to know each other.

Hello Everyone!

New to the group and new to JUDDDing... tomorrow will be my first official DD... sort of nervous and hoping that my cravings don't get the best of me. Wish me luck... =)

Can't wait for my first official weigh-in... in a week... hoping for an encouraging loss!!

JemHazel and good for you for taking the plunge.

Induction is all about learning what works for you and what doesn't - such as how to manage cravings. If you go and take a look at other experiences on the July JUDDD newbies thread, you can meet other new starters and learn about what they're doing to manage the rotations and you can questions where even more JUDDDers will see them.

JemHazel.

Be gentle with yourself during the first week. DDs get easier as time goes by. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Thanks too all experienced JBers who have encouraged this newbie.
Am doing set T, Th, Sun. Rotations. Had a scary 3rd DD yesterday with dizziness, headaches, flu symptoms. Typical detox.

Anyone else experience that? What did you do for it? Makes me a bit anxious to do my next.

That didn't happen to me although I've seen similar reports from others.

Did you drink some broth in case it was an electrolytes/sodium imbalance? Forgive me if that sounds naive but I've no idea as to the state of your glycogen stores and whether you're in and out of a ketotic state which might make you feel unwell. Or, if you've been losing water for dietary reasons or because it's Summer and that's unbalanced things.

One other possibility that I can't begin to assess for its feasibility/relevance for you is that sometimes a change in a WOE or even the timing of food intake (as with JUDDD) can make people feel unwell for a few days while they become accustomed to normoglycaemia.

Crudely, if your body has been humming along, functioning reasonably well because it's accustomed to being bathed in glucose (a standard diet and not necessarily a bad one), it's normally made some changes at cellular level to accommodate for that glucose state. If you, quite abruptly, change from an abundance of glucose to a more 'normal' level (as you may be because of JUDDDing) then your cells need to adapt to this and you can feel like death warmed over and even hypoglycaemic despite having a glucose reading that is comfortably within the reference range for such tests and indicates normoglycaemia.

This may not be at all relevant to you - there's no way for me to judge.

There is some speculation that the transition to normoglycaemia may underpin the phenomenon termed Atkins or Induction Flu.

Thank you

Thank you for the warm welcome.

So I am about half way through my first DD... Morning started off great but now I have a headache... ouch!

Going to ride it out but I hope this isn't the case for every DD. Did any of you have this same issue and did it subside after awhile? Any suggestions to avoid the headache?

I don't remember having headaches in the beginning, but I've always been headache-prone anyway. I had a bit of lightheadedness when I stood up too fast. I mean, the world goes almost black and you reach out to hold onto something in case you keel over. You'd think that would teach me to get up slower!

The thing is, I have WAAAAY less headaches than I've ever had in my entire life since being on JUDDD for almost 11 months now. I just realized that a few weeks ago. It's amazing to be free of that!

You might want to try some hot broth/bouillon. The extra salt seems to help some people. It's quite a common beginners side-effect, so nothing out of the normal for you, just painful and annoying! Hope it passes soon!

No, I didn't have any headaches in the beginning but it's tricky to judge because I'm migraine-prone. I responded to a similar query (about headaches plus a few extra unpleasantnesses) from a fellow in the post above yours and that might give some useful pointers to you?

Hello! My name is Lynn, and I am new to JUDDD. I just started it on 7/24/13 with a start weight of 274. I started dieting on July 1st, 2013 with my highest weight ever of 284 pounds, doing low calorie and managed to lose 10 pounds but it was getting painful being on a low calorie diet! I found JUDDD as I searched for an alternative weight loss plan that could work for me, and I think I've found it. I ordered Dr. Johnson's book on my Kindle and although I'm not done reading it, I get the basics, and did plug in my numbers and I can eat about 2400 calories on my up day, and 480 calories on my down day. So far this is my second down day, and it's going pretty well! I'm hoping to report my progress, and hope that they are good results. I'm already losing weight so I hope it continues

Regarding headaches, I did get them in the beginning. It's a bit hard to remember now, lol. I think I had some achiness as well. I think that's part of the detox, because it subsided and is difficult to recall now. Hang in there and it will be worth it!

Thank you so much for your reply SlowSure. Am sure my glycogen stores and other functions were turned upside down that day. Am used to eating low to moderate carb and indulged more than I should on my UD that proceeded the reactive DD.

Am back at the rotation on T, Th, Sunday after three day holiday spent out-of-town. Wish me success.

and good for you for settling down so well to the DD.

If you Google
JUDDD calculator
then you should be able to see Dr Johnson's site and if you scroll down his page and enter your details, you'll be able to obtain your estimates. If you don't mind sharing your details here (age, gender, height, weight) then someone will double-check it for you as it can be an awkward calculator at times.

1265kcals sounds a tad low for an UD but then we know nothing about you as yet You're just in time for the August thread - if you've looked through the July one, you'll see that's it's a good place to share experiences with other and ask questions.

Welcome Starrhae! It's great that you're adjusting well to the UDs and DDs. It's such a wonderful program, I wish everyone would give it a try. It sounds so intimidating to most people.

I couldn't replicate your UD and DD calories on the calculator, but didn't know you're age. They may be a bit low, but can't tell w/o the age. Do you want to share that?

Good luck!

You're welcome. Those numbers look good - remember, they're a range and a best guess. During your first 2 weeks of induction, Dr Johnson just wanted people to get used to establishing their rotations of UD and DD.

Good luck

Hi all. I started this WOE 3 weeks ago. I thought I'd give it a month to start with to see if I like it and I do. I'm getting the routine down and it's getting easier.

I lost 190 pounds in the mid-2000's and then gained 20 back. Held there for years. Then I had a lot of life changes, including veganism for a year. While I love eating vegan, all those carbs didn't love me and I gained about 50 pounds. Lesson learned.

I've gone back to mostly primal, which I know works for me, along with JUDDD. I'm liking it so far.

I ordered Dr.Johnson's book on my Kindle yesterday and it is helping me get started along with reading about all of your experiences with JUDDD!!Today is my 2nd DD day & I found I need to lower my calorie count to 325 so I opened a protein shake and will drink it throughout the morning and another this afternoon!! It is hard but I already feel better just knowing that I am getting on track to being healthier!Just knowing I can get online and check in anytime helps .I hope everyone has a good day!

Starrhae, for your first couple of weeks if you need to you can have up to 500 cals. But many of the people here jumped in at their 'real' number and did great. Others start at 600 or more and work down. We are all different but JUDDD is so forgiving for most people.

I honestly believe that checking in here daily (or more often, ), is one of the greatest way to keep JUDDDing.
