Alicia! I hope you'll love JUDDD. It's a very flexible WOE and allows you to have things you never thought you could while "dieting".

It's REALLY important that you eat close to your UD calories! I can't stress that enough. It's the wide spread between UD and DD calories that makes this thing work. You CAN do it, and if you want it to work, you'll need to. Remember, eating these calories means you have a daily average of only around 1100. If you only eat 1350 on UD and around 300 on DDs, your daily average is only 825 - NOT ENOUGH! Don't risk putting your body in starvation mode!

I hope you'll attempt to do JUDDD the way it was designed - it really does work!

Waiting on Juddd diet book to arrive

Hey all
Its been very inspirational reading how all of you have done so well on the various diets/life changing eating patterns you are following.

Have been reading up on the Juddd diet now for a couple of days. Im currently doing WW but think I need to change it up a bit and need something new - to stop me getting bored - y'know? Im getting married on 2nd August and really want to reach my goal by then.

I ordered the Juddd book but have to wait for it to come from US as they do not have it in Germany where I live - it could take up to 21 days to deliver - bummer - I'm so impatient!!!

I wonder could anyone give me a little overview as to what a week is like on the Juddd diet - say the first two weeks of induction? That would be really great - then I could get started while Im waiting for my little book to arrive in the post!!!

You don't need the book to start. Lots of great information here. Start with this thread:

WHAT IS JUDDD? COME INSIDE AND SEE!!

and then continue on the other threads on this forum. The ones that are sticky's at the top are the best! But the other threads are chock full of information too. You might end up learning so much you won't need the book

! The book recommends using prepackaged shakes or bars for the first 2 weeks on DDs when DD calories can go up to 500 a day. Did you google the juddd calculator and get your UD/DD calories.

A lot of us didn't do shakes or bars so if you have a kitchen scale and measuring cups/spoons you can eat regular food and just weigh everything for portion size.

Thank you - I will have a look at the forum there!

This may sound really silly...but is the diet also called 5:2 meaning 5 days of normal eating (approx 1900 cals) and 2 days of fasting (approx 500 cals)?

I will have to check my details on the calculator as I was not sure first time round what the % were referring to.

Carly - I have scales, measuring spoons etc in my kitchen (I love to cook - I think thats why Im here lol) so I will probably avoid the shakes and bars. Also I live in Germany so Im not sure what stuff is available here.

Thanks you guys

Wilkommen, Heroness! Cute name! I didn't know they used stones for weight in Germany, but then, I'm a fat Ugly American.

To start JUDDD, you are "fasting" every other day. Some people then do the 5/2 rotation. If you're working towards a goal, like I am, you'll probably stay on EOD.

Oh Danke Schon for the welcome!

I thought it sounded too good!!! I originally thought it was just two days on a fast and then eat what I like ha ha. Im such an optimist!!

Im originally from Ireland but moved to live in Germany 9 months ago.

We use both stones/pounds and kilos in Ireland but I just prefer to use the stones and pounds for weighing myself and gram/kilo for food etc. Complicated I know!

So basically this is what I must do??? - like I said I might sound silly here but just want to make sure I get it right starting off!!

Day one : fast of 500 cals
Day two : eating healthily - 2000 cals
Day three : fast of 500 cals
Day four : eating healthily - 2000 cals
Day five : fast of 500 cals
Day six : eating healthily - 2000 cals
Day seven : fast of 500 cals

So I do that for two full weeks - is this called the induction?

Then after that I have another look at calculator and decide what level of restriction I want for myself? I am pretty sure it will take me a lot longer than two weeks to lose one stone and 12 pounds

Heroness! It sounds like you've got the idea, and Dawn is right, there's so much information here on this board that you'll never, ever get in any book. So many real peoples' actual experiences, tips, hints, etc. Glad to have you with us and good luck!

Fáilte! Heroness! I don't think it's possible to lose 26lbs in a month, short of amputation. But yes, you've got the idea.

Meself, I missed the part about the 500 calories, i jumped right in with the reduction numbers, as of this morning, I've lost half a stone in 15 days.

Alusiq and Heroness.

Heroness have you logged on to the Alternate Day Diet site of Dr Johnson's?

You enter your weight in pounds, height in inches and your age and you get your recommended calories for Up and Down days.

The 2000/500 number comes from 5:2 which works too but more slowly for most people. (Although of course they may in fact be your numbers...)

He suggests 500 calories a day for the first 2 weeks, to get the body used to lower calories and yes we call that induction.

Ok I'll try to eat calories juddd website has suggested which is 1818 and 300 something I think 356 not sure. But what if I'm so full I can't eat any more? Can I eat ice creams????? (that would be awesome!!)

I'm on my second dd now and just had cooked cabbage with clear tomato soup which only came up to 145 cal. And this was my first meal and it was at 6:30 pm. I think I'll have strawberries with sour cream Later on

Thanks for welcoming!!!!

Hi Alusiq! Yes, do! Eat UP to your calorie count on UP days, that keeps your metabolism humming along. I've not been JUDDDing long, just 15 days, but I really notice the fat coming out of my abdomen! 7 lbs worth! YEAH!

I wanted potato salad...so i made that, with homemade mayo...and pigged out on it...plus I had a bottle of white wine...I REALLY enjoyed both and definitely made my 1900 quota!

The JUDDD way allows you to cut calories while increasing your metabolism, so you need the extra cals on the UP days to keep that going.

It is a bit of an adjustment, I've been doing low carb forever, and lost a lot of weight...but kept finding it again...eating what i crave, within calorie limits, and losing my post-menopausal paunch at the same time? Priceless...

Try eating some delicious calorie dense foods, like avocado or peanut butter. Adding butter to veggies is great or cream in your coffee. It is very pleasant adding calories without necessarily adding huge volumes of food.

New to the group and JUDDD. I'm currently at 161 lbs and looking to drop about 40. I've done my calculations which leaves me at 414 on a down day and 2,068 on an up day. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get all the calories in. I've recently cut out sugar, dairy, grains, and eat very limited fruits seeing they create intense sugar cravings for me. It seems like I'm going to have to eat quite a bit of food to reach my goal point... but hell I'm going to try!

If you have trouble eating the volume of food it takes to get to your numbers, try using butter in your cooking, on your food, etc. Use full-fat salad dressings, mayonaise, and so forth. If you like coffee, use full-calorie cream...also if you drink alcohol, wine or other alcoholic drinks will get you to your numbers quickly. I don't advocate drinking every UD, but it does help occasionally. Also, don't forget chocolate. I have been known to eat chips and chocolate for breakfast and come close to getting half my calories before lunch!!! Trust me, it gets much, much easier to hit UD calories (and exceed them).

Your numbers seem quite high for your current weight. You need to make sure you change the default measurements on the JUDDD calculator to pounds and inches not kilos and cm's. It makes a bit of a difference!

Welcome to the group
