I think that some are saying the 2 weeks where you are told to get in 500 calories on your DDs as some type of induction. Or it could be that that is the time it takes for the SIRT gene to kick in. That is what some are referring to when they say "induction", but I am not so sure that Johnson calls it that? Anyhow, after that 2 weeks of doing 500 calories (where Dr J also says to use shakes) you then reduce your DD calories to what they are really supposed to be.

So there is a 2 week period on JUDDD!! Just not sure what it is called.

I saw where you asked what happens after induction. There's no real induction, at least not like Atkins. The "induction" phase is just a phase where you are "allowed" to eat more on DD's to get settled into this WOE. Since you've already started eating at your lower DD numbers, you've skipped induction! WTG!
It's awesome helps me to stick to the DD!

I get it now But I would rather just do the lower number now rather than to have to cut them after 2 weeks.

Greetings JUDDDers! I'm excited to join you all. I decided not to do another round of hcg, and many of my friends are here and were sharing some JUDDD info.

I'm 5 days in and so far, it's been great...

Excited to be here and learn a lot!

I am finding already that my choices are going to have to change from that on HCG though My first UD and I went over about 200 calories
I need to figure out what I am going to eat before I eat it. I was shocked to find the 3 pieces of pizza I ate was 900 cal. That's 300cal a pieceSo that means no popcorn for me tonight.
All I can do now is go on. O HUM another challenge
I decided to only 2 pieces of pizza so now I am ok for my 1st UD

Eating with him every other day, the same foods, is nice though, and my bf appreciates that!

As for the JUDDD calculator, 20% weight loss mode is the preferred number, although in the beginning you may want to keep your DD's higher...Dr. Johnson says no lower than 500 (for the first two weeks), and some people go much higher until they get used to the restriction. It's more important to feel in control and comfortable with your WOE than to get the numbers "perfect" at first. I have been JUDDDing for 10 weeks and still stay around 500 on DD (I'm working on it ).

Good Luck and ask lots of questions!!
Thanks for the helpful information. I am going to start on Sunday as I am just not prepared yet and want to make sure I start out right. I was thinking on my DD that if I control my foods during the day (apple for mid-day) then dinner would be salad and a protein which is not too much different than what we do now just portion control is more likely what I will need to measure on those days. After 10 weeks how do you feel?

I know the rules are basically calories up one day and down the next but what effects if you have to UD in a row? I obviously I would want to stick as closely as possible but things do happen so wondering if you are set back a week or just need to readjust? I know with Atkins if I had one small crumb of carb it seemed like it just completely diminished my efforts for the last week or so. I have seen others talk about 5:2 or 4:3. Does it come down to what works for you? Like if I follow the plna all week following UD and DD but have a weekend getaway planned and have 2 UD in a row....? What then???

I've had ups and downs, honestly. DD's vary from very hard to mild/easy for me. However, some people get right into the groove, so don't let that scare you. What I have found is that the longer I can go without eating on a DD, the better able I am to control my hunger and calories. Even an apple can start that hunger monster! You will have to experiment, and don't be worried if you can't stick to 500 at first. You will still be in weight loss mode all the way up to 800 or more.

Once you have a DD or two you will be right back to pre-UD weight, or below. JUDDD is very forgiving. Some JB's (JUDDD Buds ) take a week or more off plan for vacation, etc. and get right back into rotations and don't gain a lb. That's what's so great about this diet, as opposed to aherm *cough* other WOEs.

Hello,
I also lost most of my weight on hcg in fact 64 lbs of it. I stopped at 108.6 which is a great weight for me. Now after about a year of no hcg, my weight is creeping back on and it won't really budge much. It might tease me with a pound or so but then it's right back. I played around with the 5.2 woe this wk and I am down a lb but today is my first official day on JUDDD and this is my first down day. Do I understand correctly that we keep our calories around 500 for the first two weeks of JUDDD and then use the number on the calculator? It puts me at 336 cals and wow that didn't seem like a lot of cals but I've only eaten 220 so far today and I feel great. Who would have thought? I too am tired of fighting everything all the time and would like a gentle way to lose the 4-5 lbs I have gained and then keep it off but live at the same time. Glad to be here.

Mary, you have done a great job and I really hope that JUDDD will get you back down to your goal. You are tiny and not far from goal so I may not be as fast as some, but, you never know.

Glad that your first DD is going well. You don't have to eat 500 calories a day to start with, but Dr J felt that most people would find even that hard enough. Anything less is a bonus.

I forgot the one thing that bf loves about my DD's. Sometimes I save enough calories to pick up Wendy's on the way home from work. A small chilli for me (210 calories) and 2 bacon cheeseburgers for him!

That is a great idea. I love Wendy's chili and forgot how low in calories it is.

I went to register and found out I was already here!

How silly is that! I've been doing LC off and on since 1972, but concentrating on it seriously since 2008. I am totally unable to lose any pounds at all so I'm here at JUDDD for a miracle.

Since I'm so used to eating LC, I may stumble around for a bit, but I will accept any and all offered solutions.

I am a 67-year-old female, weighing in at 159 at the doctor's office last Monday. I'm only 5'2", so this is a real challenge.

The good news is that I'm in good health and take only one prescription medication (HRT). I prefer to treat any and all physical challenges with dietary changes.

Now that I'm doing GF, I often have it on UDs too. I confuse them when I ask for a large instead of a small!

Welcome tex! You're able to stay LC if that's what you want. Otherwise, all JUDDD cares about is calories.

tex! I've heard some JB's (JUDDD BUDS) mention ketosis as well. I cannot verify it because I've never done the strips, but it's been said that fasting can also bring on ketosis, without eating LC. I may have to purchase some strips.
