My parents were super strict and overbearing on me (but not on my younger sister, go figure, lol)

I wound up in IP twice in my younger teens and after having a rocky 20's with substance abuse, I just kinda "woke up" one day, quit my horrible job, put myself back in college in 2006, and quit all of the substances that I used to use and abuse.

This caused me to be MUCH healthier in some ways, but my weight just crept up and up and up! I went from 125 to 165 in like 3 years. No me gusta.

So then I tried several ways to get my weight back DOWN, and unfortunately the only thing that was really doing the trick was restricting hardcore. I can't fast completely (I get really dizzy and nauseous) so just keeping my cals super low helped the number on the scale go down. But then they stopped once I hit like 152-ish. For weeks. I was devastated, because I couldn't go much lower in cals than I already was without making myself nauseous/dizzy every day and unable to function at work. So I just went back to eating "normal". Weight went back up. Cue depression.

Two summers ago, in 2011, I lost weight by spending two weeks at Body Mind Retreats in Ithaca NY. It's an immersion retreat where you eat nothing but raw vegan food, prepared by them. Everything is low fat, high carb raw vegan. Never in my life have I wanted french fries as badly as I did those two weeks. Lost 11 lbs, gained it back 4 months later. :/

Before my wedding (6/12) for a couple months, I was super strict vegan. Like not even honey, non-certified vegan white flour, sugar, etc... I was crushed when I had lost only ONE pound by my wedding day. Absolutely crushed.

Then the Holiday season was upon us, we were super busy, eating like crap (more often than not was one meal per day of fast food or tinned soups/crackers/sweets) - I was a hot mess.

Then December 1st I started this no-soda thing with one of my friends - though he went from a 2 litre of soda to 8-12 oz per day, pretty good, I think! and then that's where my recent-ish story begins.

Now I'm 8 lbs down and hoping to stay on this downward rollercoaster, no more up rollercoaster! Or maybe this should be like downhill skiing? Yes. You can't ski uphill.
Thanks for sharing, Allison. I forget to check this thread as often as I should, so just now seeing this. Yes, let's ride that slope downhill!!!

For some reason I seem to be stuck at 169 for the past week. I have been keeping within my cals ( give or take 100). I have also been working out (4x's) this week.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Just keep at it! Some people don't see losses for a few weeks, even a month or so, but then start losing. Just know that JUDDD is doing internal healing and cleanup during this time, and you're getting all the health benefits of JUDDD. One of the worst mistakes is to give up too soon, just when all the good stuff is happening.

Your exercise may also be masking any fat losses you are having. Muscle building, fluid retention, etc.

Also, be sure to measure and try on smallish clothes. You may see huge differences in your size before you do on the scale. Weird, I know, but it's true. Hang in there! Don't give up!

JUDDD is not usually a linear or consistant process- I lost in fits and starts, but eventually the pounds kept going- sometimes no real movement for 2 weeks- then whoosh and 5 pounds gone in 2 days. I stopped questioning it.

2nd DD and my first time going to restaurant and I have to say that It didn't do great. I didn't eat anything all day and went in with a plan by researching nutrition facts for the restaurant... But I was soo hungry that I ate bread as soon as it hit the table and a some of the appetizer. I did have a very healthy entree (under 500 cal) but still feel badabouteating something i didnt plan on. I learned my lesson to avoid restaurants on DDs! at least until I'm more comfortable with this WOE. It's my first week and although I'm a little disappointed I know I will keep at it.

Energygal, you didn't blow it, you just had a higher DD is all. Not at all unusual when you're first beginning. You definitely learned something about yourself. And believe me, your control is going to get a lot stronger as you continue JUDDDing. At some point, you will be able to go out to a restaurant and say no to the bread and apps. And it'll amaze you!

Energygal it's a learning experience, but I skipped eating out on DDs in the beginning. It gets easier once you have the appetite suppression. Now I'll fast all day and have a house salad with vinagar and salt. I have to have a bed time snack so have to save for that otherwise you could eat a bit more than that.

As you go along you'll start to find out what restaurants are DD friendly There's several of us who go to Wendy's on our DDs to get their small chili, which is 210 calories and very filling!

Your first few weeks are a learning period, so don't feel bad if things don't go as planned all the time!

JUDDD newbie

I have been on this WOE since Sept 2012 and have lost 21lbs in about 21 weeks (leaving out 10 days over the Christmas period!) The weight drops very slowly and I have calculated (from the JUDDD book) that my average daily calorifc content comes in at about 1200, which is, of course roughly the same as any other diet recommendation--just rationed out in a different way. Other than that, it's afairly easy WOE to follow, with the advantage of being able to indulge on every other day, if one is prepared to suffer the DDs. I still have quite a long way to go, even though I would be happy to get to 12 stone or a size 14 (UK sizing) having been up to size 22 for some years. Now at size 16 so not displeased with my progress so far. After all, it took several years to get to nearly 15 stone so it's going to take a wee while to lose some of it. Press on then!

Good morning all:
I have been following this site for months, and actually started, but then had to have two thyroid surgeries in four weeks. First to have what they thought was just a cyst, then to find out there was cancer in it, had to return and have the whole thyroid removed. This threw my diet for a loop! I have been following low-carb for years, and lost 45 lbs, and have kept it off. Going through the treatment after surgery (no meds for 4 weeks, and restricted diet to get me hypothyroid) so I could have the radiation. My doctor told me that the 18 lbs I have gained is my metabolism getting regulated while they are trying to get my meds right (taking a while). During this time I have felt discouraged and just ate whatever I want; I kept telling myself I would go back to my way of eating after everything was stablized. Well...that gave my "binge" gene a wake up! I have decided not to wait, and am going back to low carb. I just feel better eating that way. I also thought I would try IF with it, because I have been reading about all the other health benefits.
So, I start today! You are all a great group, and I look forward to continued reading (and occasional posting). Sorry for the long post! from someone who doesn't post usually

Thank you for the warm welcomes. I feel blessed, because although it is cancer, thyroid cancer is the "best" to have Really, it is just annoying to go through the process. I think it is my "wake-up" call to slow down, and enjoy life. Like many, I have been taking care of everyone else....now, I have to include myself.

Thank you all

Yoiu all sound so very kind and caring. Thank you for your welcome to the site. I find my DDs fairly trying as I have yo use 150 cals for skimmed milk as I simply cannot force myself into drinking black tea or coffee! Have tried for years but it just ain't gonna happen! Thus, with only 450 max left to play with I restrict myself to half an ounce of porridge oats at breakfast, one rice cake with a Laughing Cow spread and a cup of Oxo at lunchtime and save the bulk for an evening meal with my husband (since I have to cook for him anyway) From 2000 hrs to bedtime is the hardest part for me, with no cals left apart from cups of tea or coffee but it seems to working slowly and I DO look forward to the tomorrows, as I guess you all do too. Nice visiting with you all.

Have you seen the Bovril granules in a cup that they sell in the Poundstores? Only 10cals and very tasty. I am not sure what the Oxo comes out at... might be just as good. I just checked and Oxo is only 13, so not much in it!

I loathe rice cakes and will eat any other form of 'cracker'.

I am new to JUDDDing. This will be my first DD. I am 5'3, 181lbs, and the calculator says I need to do 1867/323 calories. I couldn't eat all my UD calories yesterday. Ate 1700. I'm not a low carber. I eat most vegan and lots of raw. It's because I am trying to heal my GI tract that I avoid meat, dairy, wheat, processed foods. I have chronic constipation and have found that I do worse when I eat meat, dairy, or bread or too much cooked foods.

I dont miss meat, but I do sometimes miss cheese and butter. We have goats and I make my own kefir and that actually seems to help my bowel. So I consider it an exception.

I have some questions. First of all, what do WOE and TOM mean?

Secondly, what is the thread for January weigh ins about? Support? A contest? Do you weigh in daily? I didn't see rules on the thread.

Am I likely to stall out or gain when starting to JUDDD?

Thanks!
