slooooooooow loss for almost a month :(

I don't weigh daily, I just can't handle the disappointment. but here are my benchmarks:
Sept 24: 160.1
Oct 1: 158.3
Oct 12: 156.8
Oct 19: 157.1
Oct 26: 155.5
Nov 2: 155.4
Nov 7: 155.3

WTH? so while I have lost 4.8 lbs in just over 6 weeks, I have only lost 1.5 lbs in 3.5 of those weeks... with one UUAAD in 10.5 weeks, and solid, on point DDs (600) and UDs (1900-2100), with three spin classes and 2 other workouts with weights and intervals a week.

I have gone back to the calculators and put in 49, 5 ft 5 inches, and 155, and done the 3-5 times exercising modes and the little to no exercise modes, for 20% and 35%... my up cals are 2178 or 1686... and down 337 to 762... so quite a range.

I might try 500 and 1900... I am really active, but maybe I am efficient and not burning high (at one point years ago I could lose weight eating 1700 cals! and I lost 90 lbs 9 years ago eating 1500-1700... but maybe those days are gone).

I am mystified, frustrated... I would seriously think that I would be in caloric deficit of around 5000 cals a week = ~1.5 lbs...

luckily, I was really happy about the election results this morning, so my mood has been abated a bit, but I remain confused.

what say you JUDDD buds?????

So, I can only speak from my own experience, but I would lower my DD and give it a solid 2 weeks at 20% WLM no exercise. I keep my DD to under 200 calories when possible and I have had steady losses with little exercise. It's worth a shot, right?

I'm a firm believer in low DDs. If you can get those to your lower range, and maybe keep your UDs somewhere in the middle of that range, I think it would help. I'm not super active, but I'm younger and taller than you and weigh quite a bit more, and don't eat as much as you do. I know the exercise should counteract the age issue, but I don't think it really does, at least not as much as it should, and especially since you're so athletic.

Hi Toora -

I, too, had very slow losses doing a very strict 20-25% JUDDD regimen. I got very energetic, had a very hard time sleeping, and the weight would not budge. (there's science to explain why all this stuff happens on IF regimens, including changes/loss of menstruation too.)

I read something about a month ago on a blog called Paleo for Women (google paleo for women intermittent fasting, I'm not sure if it's okay to link to it) about women, stress, and the metabolic stress of fasting. There is much to learn at this blog on the science of all of the above.

The point - and she is not against IF at all - is that women normally hang on to weight when they're stressed, and the total amount of stress in our lives also includes the metabolic stress of fasting. Some of us are more vulnerable to stress-related fat storage/keeping/clutching-on-to-with-both-hands than others. That's me. That might be you, too. I needed to lighten up, not push harder. If I needed to work harder at something, it was the "relax" and "rejoice" portion of our program.

So...I'm under a lot of life-stress right now. I shifted into 50% maintenance and hit the carbs, and the weight is falling off faster than it did at 20%.

Hope this helps a little -

Lynne

Since starting juddd in may I stuck to 500 cal dd and around 1800 ud. This worked fine for me and I had steady losses up until October when I had a stall and kind of list my way a bit. I have now lowered my dd to 350/400 and have an extra 200 ish cals on an up day. This has given me a huge boost and the weight is falling off once again.

I favour lower DDs too. It is interesting that a lot of people find no difficulty exersing on DDs with very low calories.

And I really believe the the greater the gap between the UD and DD cals the better for the health issues as well as the weight loss.

Thread jack..........

thanks for ideas guys... I am gonna mull this over... and either lighten up some, or buckle down some... although I must say I find 600 cal DDs hard, so we shall see! meanwhile, not a good eating day ... I do find a disappointing weigh in so provocative of toss in the towel eating AND I flossed and brushed my teeth at 6 pm to stop sooner rather than later , as I do end up feeling quite yucky when I really go overboard

Onward

I have had a very slow weight loss as well. I had only lost 3 pounds after 6 weeks! Then suddenly I could wear a smaller size jeans with no more weight loss. Then this morning, my first whoosh!! Suddenly since weighing 2 days prior. I had lost over a pound! Woot! Woot! Just stkck to the plan...it works!

This is how I am feeling exactly. I mean I am Heavy and weight should be coming off faster.Today is the 7th and I am only down 1 pound this month and then I go back up so I find myself wanting to cry and I get so depressed when Im trying to make this work. I do love JUDD just want it to love me back.

Tooraloora and Debrat:

Tooraloora, you are working so hard. I'm so sorry the scale isn't showing what you deserve to see for all that work. You could tweak, but I also think there is a good possibility that you will pop out of this phase and go right back to losing faster.

One thought ... I wonder if the impression of only losing 1.5 lbs in 3.5 weeks could be based on how few weights you have in your sample? Don't get me wrong, I think you're smart not to weigh every day if scale fluctuations get to you, but because the scale does bounce around a lot on JUDDD, it could be a factor. I just checked out my daily weights for September, and although I lost 4 pounds that month, if I pick the right dates it could looks like I lost 1.5 lbs that month too. Also, you're only 20 pounds from goal, so that 5 lbs in 6 weeks is really pretty good. I know you're not happy with the last 3.5 -- I would be frustrated too! -- but I really believe that it is not forever.

Debbie, you lost 8 pounds in October. You're doing great! Going down one pound the first week in November does NOT necessarily mean you're on pace to lose four pounds this month. So many times people go through couple weeks in a month of bouncing around and then wind up with a great month.

Don't lose heart BUDDDs!

thanks Chris and Carly and Kissa
and hugs to you Debrat

I am hanging in... the only way out is through, right?

and I am not very overweight anymore, so I know these last 20 finetuning lbs will be hard won.

I get how infrequent weighing can not show the whole story... if it didn't make me psychotic, I would do it. I get stuck in a loop of "well if it doesn't really matter, then why take stock of it?" and "well I took stock of it, so it matters"... while many seem to be able to stand in the paradox of it mattering enough to do it, and not so much to have a snit over a bounce, and that may come with practice, I am just not willing at this point to go there. and BF, who has lived through months of my rageful-despairing weigh in days when on this internet based Lean Eating program, would agree (this program had weekly measurements, like about 12, plus weights, plus monthly back, side and front photos, plus every 2 or 3 months skinfold calipering by an expert fatfold pincher-person... drove me crazeeeee, esp. because their Paleo-ish approach to eating, and big emphasis on weight lifting, did NOT lead to much if any progress for me weight/fat wise).

sorry for blathering... I just know that my past experiences with efforts to lose weight and measuring contribute to my current frame of mind. AND thank the Lord, I have lost 13.6 lbs on JUDDD since late August, so I am on my way.

thanks for listening.

Not sure if this is good advice or not but I think that I lose weight better when I don't exercise every day. I love exercising but it made it more difficult to do the low DD's that helped me lose weight rather than maintain. I am back to exercising everyday now that I am at a lower weight and in maintanace. My DD's are frequently in the 600cal range, but if I am not active for a couple of days I'll throw in a super low DD just to make sure the weight doesn't start to creep up again. It doesn't seem logical but thought I would mention it.

Thanks Chris for the words of encouragement. I am so sorry to be a whiner. Maybe I am pushing it wanting it to come off faster. I just expect when a person has more to lose they drop weight faster at first. I have come to realize JUDD is probably the only way of eating I could do long term(forever) and not feel deprived. That is HUGE! Heres to hoping this month ends well. Even if it were 5 pounds I would be elated at this point.

Thanks Carly AGAIN You posted this before and I thought it was amazing the bouncing going on. See I forgot when It came to me. I guess I need to be reminded. I have to remember this isnt the same as losing a pound a day and be in a good mood cause the scale said I lost a pound. I will keep the faith even though I dont see it happening every day.... that something positive is happening. I havent had stomach cramps since I started JUDD Oct.1 that in itself is a miracle to me. No smaller pants, not even close but thats not to be expected this soon right?

I didn't really need smaller clothes till I dropped about 20 pounds. Everything I had was stretchy and probably a bit too tight so just give JUDDD a chance. I still felt yucky on DDs for over 6 weeks, but I knew this was a WOE I could stick with so I hung in. So glad I did!

I started counting calories in June and lost a total of 3 lbs and kept it off until I started LC on Sept. 12 at 204 lbs. I was able to get down to 198 by Nov. 13 which is the day I started JUDDD. Only six lbs in 2 months (on LC), and I went up as high as 200 that last week before I started JUDDD. This week I've gone down 1.7 lbs and I am so happy! I know it will fluctuate, but am reassured that this is what I needed.

just checking in to say and tell everyone I am still here, still JUDDDing, but pretty busy with work, so not on the boards much.

since my last post, I have decided on:
1. no weighing for 4 weeks (I wish it did not make me psycho, but it does, so I am giving myself a break)
2. upping my DD cals to 1000 (diet fatigue... and with exercise 6x a week, which I am (a) paid to do 3x a week instructing, and (b) committed to for health, both
mental and physical, is still a bit of a stretch, but not as hard as 500

we shall see! In theory, I should lose at least 5 lbs of fat in 4 weeks at these cals and exercise, but of course, everyone is different (and I am so different than when I lost 90 lbs 9 years ago... ), so time will tell, but I like my
focus on my behaviour, not my (daily)(weekly) results...

and I can go back to a wider split between UD and DD after this if it is not successful.

on a good NSV, my waist is back under 30 inches (was 40 inches at my heaviest), and I will be wearing a lace dress size M for xmas parties

thanks for listening, and being here. I do take in everyone's valiant efforts
