DD Mini Meal idea thread

I was thinking this, then JBinME said it, so I figure, let's do it:

concept: some people find having multiple mini meals (or Barbie meals :D ) throughout a DD can help stave off the hunger and make the day easier.

Some people eat each hour, or every 2hrs.

So let's post some thoughts for mini meals-- 20, 30, 40, 50 calorie tidbits that you can have through the day to stave off the hunger monster!

Ok-- go!
:D S.

Great idea. I'm interested to see what you all come up with. I'd like to try it, but I'm too lazy to do the research on my own. :D

Ditto.

Here's what I did yesterday, but I think I need to do less food, more often. Still, this might work for some:

2 hb eggs, 1T lite mayo, all mashed (140+40=180)
3 kavli super thin crackers (50)
take the above, divide into 4 or 6 mini meals

1 cup almond milk (add davinci, 0) 40cal

1 bag of slaw or broccoli slaw = 100 or so (stir fry, good for or 3 good sized meals)

low fat sausage-- 100 or 125... mix with the above, divide up. I don't count cals in some lite soya sauce or sriacha

cheese wedge - 23 (light laughing cow)
magic pop - 15

ok, that's it for me for now. I think Pat and Ouiz have some great ideas too!

I divided a wee can of tuna (80) and a sliced zucchini (45) into three meals.
Stir fried slaw twice. (50 each)
BP coffee w one tsp butter only (33)
Went nuts and had a 75 cal egg at the end of the day.
So, seven Barbie meals, 333 cals. Pretty satisfying. :)

Baked acorn squash divided into mini meals is sooo filling! I didn't even want to eat anything after I had 3 portions of 50 cal last DD.

ouizoid 11-01-2012 03:16 PM

I'll be doing my grocery shopping tomorrow so I'll be looking for more ideas.

Carly 11-01-2012 05:47 PM

I haven't tried but I have some ideas:

2 stalks celery w/ Walden Farms dressing as dip (20)

1 magic pop w/ 1 laughing cow light wedge (50)

1/2 a FF plain Greek yogurt with Mio drops (40)

1/2 a FF plain greek yogurt with Capella drops and ez-sweetz (40)

3 Tbs of egg beaters (25) and what you wish

1/2 an ounce of Turkey pepperoni (35)

1 FF Hebrew National Hotdog (40)

1 Tbs PB2 (22.5) 2 kim's deli pop rice cakes (20)= 42.5

ouizoid 11-01-2012 06:00 PM

ooooo, Carly! Love the PB2 idea! Tomorrow!

Luv2Eat 11-01-2012 08:29 PM

Woweee, lot's of great ideas - thank you! Gonna pick up some PB2, probably chocolate - didn't realize the calorie count was so low on that product.

Here are a few things I've been eating for mini-meals lately:

Boiled egg, white only: 17-25 calories depending on your egg
Romaine heart lettuce, small inside of head 132 grams, dipped in favorite Walden Farms dressing: 22 calories
Scandinavian Bran Crispbread, spread with Walden Farms fruit spread (groovin' on apricot currently) 12 calories
Beef broth 1 cup with cabbage 40gm: 26 calories
Gelatin Gummy candies made with 1 Tablespoon gelatin, stevia and koolaide mix, etc.: 35 calories I can spread these over a couple of hours or longer.

Flossyliz 11-02-2012 07:29 AM

1 Tbs PB2 mixed with 1Tbs no-fat Greek yogurt on lots of cucumber slices. 35 cals :)

Jbinme 11-02-2012 08:23 AM

Low cal slice bread 1/2 tbsp sugarfree preserves=50 cal

kiwi=46 cal

1tsp almond butter=34 cal

ks4 11-02-2012 08:49 AM

I saw this list before and it seems pretty useful (although most of these are just vegetables, and who would eat 50 radishes since they are 1 calorie each)

Is anyone doing this who works outside the home? Trying to figure out how to make this work...

ouizoid 11-02-2012 10:05 AM

I do. Here is what I take to the office (some prep in advance)

--V8 35 very filling calories
--1 tsp coconut oil dissolved in hot coffee: 37 ( i do this a few different hours)
--one bag miracle rice/laughing cow wedge, s&p (prepped in the morning) nuked at the office
I have bags of salmon and brancrisps and laughing cow at the office and make open faced sandwiches
pre-prep: a baggie of turkey and a baggie of pickles: mix and eat
one packet LF cocoa plus 1 tsp coconut oil--57 cals
2 cut up red peppers: 40 calories
35 calories worth of carrots

you get the idea. I think it thru in advance. Sometimes I take a hard boiled egg which gets me thru at least 2 hours.

cici52 11-02-2012 10:48 AM

Asperagus 10 spears 33
Blueberries 1/4c 21
Broccoli raw 3 oz/85g 25
Cabbage raw chopped 1 cup 22
Carrot 1 large 30
Chicken breast w/o skin 1 oz 45
Deviled eggs 1 serving 40
Grapefruit 49
Laughing cow wedge 35
Lemondrop melon 1/2c 30
MahiMahi 1 oz 25
Salmon steamed or grilled 1 oz 21
Strawberries 4 large 23

Sure there are some repeats but these are my favorites.

Note: Deviled eggs = 4 HB eggs, 2TMiracle Whip Lite, 1tsp mustard = 8 servings

Jbinme 11-02-2012 12:42 PM

I found some fruit strips by stretch island fruit co. at costco. 45 cal each.

handbells 11-02-2012 08:03 PM

What are magic pops?

Carly 11-03-2012 10:32 AM

Kim's magic pops or Kim's deli pops. You can google them. I order them since I don't see them in stores around here. I really like them!

LoCarbGal 11-03-2012 10:47 AM

I haven't tried these. I guess the first description I read said they're like rice cakes, which I hated, so I didn't give them a second thought. Now I'm seeing lots of you using them, and I'm curious.

I see there are quite a few flavors. Which ones do you guys recommend, and what toppings do you like? Also, do you order them in big batches? That's all I can find, either on their site, or on amazon. Thanks!

I read the article- good ideas, but I found that the calories they suggested were somewhat low balling it. What did other people think? If these calories are accurate I can eat more on DDs then I have been for the same 200 calories I thought I was eating!

becksterinindy 11-03-2012 11:35 AM

LCG that is the same way I feel about Magic Pops and always wonder if they are like rice cakes:dunno: if so.....I shall pass! Can't find them around here and the assortment on Amazon has strawberry flavored and though I love strawberries I am not a fan of the flavor. So can anyone enlighten us please.

Scotty 11-03-2012 11:59 AM

I hate rice cakes but Stew Leonard's rice cakes (NY NJ CT) I love and those pops might be like them. They are "popped" and have a really good flavor-not like packing material. 15 cals each.

Carly 11-03-2012 01:33 PM

The Deli pops are like rice cakes, but in my opinion, better. The magic pops are like crispy discs- pretty big for 15 calories. I have tried 5 or 6 flavors- they are all pretty good. I put laughing cow light and turkey pepperoni on the plain or onion ones. The cinnamon ones I sometimes put PB2 on or walden farms 0 calorie spreads. The strawberry ones are even alright in a strange kinda way.

I plugged about half of them into my counter and came up a little higher. Still, since they are mostly veggies, how wrong can you go?

I don't know... a calorie is a calorie. I try to be super accurate with DDs 'cause I don't count at all on UDs anymore, but if I'm cheating myself I want to know:lol:
