"Maintenance Works In November" Lets talk!

Just stepped on the scale and down 2 #!

How is everyone doing their DD and UD?

The numbers Dr. J gave me are UD - 1515 and DD is 606.

I notice some of us are eating the same things on DD, can you please share that with us

For me I always have the same breakfast on dd - yogurt, v8 and coffee. It is the other 2 meals that are

Have a great November all!

Leona, yay for you!!
I tried the Barbie meals for yesterday's DD, and it was the easiest DD in months. If this continues to work, I'll post my wee meals.
The big test of this tiny meal thing will be my UD today and over the next few cycles. UDs are always tougher for me, and tend toward UUADs unless I hang on to them tightly.
What I want in maintenance is to hone this thing so that it gets easier and more fun, while making me healthier. I think I'm getting there.
Happy day, everybody. I'm really grateful for this thread.

I can't believe it's November!

I'm where you are Kristin. Testing the mini meals for DDs. So far, so good. But like you said, the proof will be in the UDs.

My weight stayed the same from last week. I am trying to only weigh once a week for now.

Do tell about the mini meals please...I have been away from the boards and I guessed I missed something!!

I have been eating day to day generally UD/DD. Not counting in about a week or so, it was our National Week for my profession and celebrations did abound!! Will weigh in Sat after tomorrow's DD of about 900. Still feeling quite good and clothes fitting, so that will be interesting to see what is going on with the scale.

Downsizing my time on the boards here, prepping for some assessment tests to start classes in January. Will stop in as I can.

I'm here.

Feeling bloated at the moment. I am off on a long weekend trip to Ireland so by the time I get back I expect the bloat will be even greater!

No matter, a few rotations will have me feeling skinny again.

Back down to my upper maintenance range, so things are ok for me. I had wanted to get down to the lower end since I'm going out of town in a couple days for a week, but it'll have to do. I may not count calories while I'm gone although I will estimate and try to do rotations as much as possible. Haven't decided yet.

Have a safe and fun trip, Cindy!

Loads of fun thank you all, and when I came home only .6 above goal! How that made me smile.

Vilantera, happy you are back in you comfort zone, hope you have a great time in the city too.

Kimberley what a lovely number 170 sounds, and clearly the right one for you. Glad it is all going better for you again my dear friend.

Holding steady at 142 this morning, after our professional week celebration (yes--overdid it doesn't even begin to cover it!!) AND Halloween. This is a freaking miracle.

And when I got out of bed this morning, I saw leg muscles I haven't seen in years. Talk about motivation to continue on with this way of eating. In love with JUDDD.

So great to see you lovely ladies at peace with the transition to maintenance.

Barb isn't this just wonderful?

I forgot to say that after my super indulgent 3 days in Ireland I was 126.6, my goal weight is 126 so I was very, very happy.

Hey everybody,
I posted this on the Benefits of IF thread, but i'd like to ask any scientifically curious maintainers their thoughts.

I've been reading Phinney's work (The art and science of low carbohydrate living) Fantastic. Some of the best science on the LC front.

The other night I heard Jimmy Moore ask Phinney about IF. Phinney responded that, although it did some good, it seemed like a "blunt tool.". He talked about losing muscle mass with IF lasting a full day. They didn't go further into it.

It fascinated me for this reason: when I first lost weight with Juddd, I still looked like an athlete. Great muscle definition. Now, as I hover up and down during maintenance, I am looking and feeling pudgier at the same weight. I suspect I've lost some muscle mass, and not through any decrease in exercise.

Phinney also mentions macronutrients needs being very different toward maintenance, when the body hasn't got the same fat stores to consume. He suggests that high carbs are no good ever, and that high protein works while losing but is no good as we close in on maintenance, at which point high fat becomes more important.

Anyway, I'd shifted to higher fat already for the sake of satisfaction and because of skin and hair changes I'd noticed as I'd lowered fat while JUDDDing.

Ridiculously long post! I just wanted to toss this out here and find out whether the scientifically minded here have any thoughts on this.

Thanks to all of you (particularly Sunday for the Phinney recommendation) for all of the evidence discussed here.

I gtoo look flabby at my goal weight but then I am 10 years older than I was was the last time I weighed 144 plus I do not exercise. I hate high fat but my average diet is moderate fat since I eat a lot of eggs. I finally discovered that really high fat and water retention go hand in hand for me. So I try to balance that so my feet and ankles look normal. I need to read up on some things but have no time to do so now but I will try to eat a balanced diet with fresh foods and hope for the best.

I assume each of us is unique, and Phinney suggests perhaps half of us are carb-sensitive. It makes me wonder whether that explains why some juddders can happily return to carbs and some can't.
Thanks for your thoughts, Adi.

Kristin-I am so glad you are asking this question. I've gone back and forth doing high fat and judddd. I didn't seem to do well doing both at the same time but it was interesting that when I was doing HF/LC I noticed more appetite suppression every other day. Probably because I've done Juddd for so long.
I worry about the muscle loss for both me and DH but especially for him.
I haven't read the books from Phinney but I plan to. I have been following Jimmy's experiment. Wondering if its good for maintenance or just WL. Also I do wonder if fasting is good for maintenance scientifically speaking.
So many questions. Hard to find the answers.

Janette, I'm looking forward to hearing from Sunday, too, because I think she juddds with LCHFMP. It's so fascinating to think that, not only is each of us different, our needs may change as we approach and sustain maintenance.
Thanks for your thoughts, Janette. I wondered how you'd feel about all of this.

I am interested in this as well. I briefly did HF/LC before JUDDD and noticed that the appetite suppression was very good. It was impossible for me to run eating that way as my body couldn't adjust to the change in diet. I know some people can do it but I think it takes time to adjust. I don't seem to have the motivation to try it right now but it is always interesting to learn about the science.
I am feeling flabbier as well but I think I am just getting used to being smaller now so my critical eye is back in focus.i have one of those body fat scales with the hand and foot sensors and even though they are not super accurate I do think it gives me an idea of the overall trend of my body composition over time. Especially if my hydration is similar as previous times I have measured (dehydration makes it think I have gained muscle, not that I was drinking wine the night before). Anyway the scale shows an improvement in body composition with IF even with my lower protein consumption. I hope it is correct!
Is anyone else getting NERVOUS about the holiday season and weight gain? It has never been an easy time for me but I am trying to remain calm.

My tummy is so soft and mushie feeling! Not that it was firm before, but I was hoping for a bit tighter feel to it It is actually like a loaf of bread that is about to be baked - all soft and doughy like! The rest of my body is fine!!!

This is troubling. I sooo want to be able to eat "normal" and have real sugar treats from time to time. Plus, if you do go lc, and eat carbs along with it, that's supposed to be even worse than high carb alone. Please someone tell me differently, lol.

My last labs were great and I eat anything I want. I don't eat tons of protein and then tons of sugar, but a good variety of everything, and plenty of not-so-great choices (KFC for lunch yesterday, etc.). I'm sure a lot of it's individual, but it hasn't hurt my bloodwork or health any.

It takes awhile for the sirtuin proteins to build up in your system...and it takes awhile for the psychology of calorie counting to sink in.

I tested small tastes of sweets beginning about a month into JUDDD. At first they caused cravings. So, I waited a week and tried again. After a few weeks I found I could eat sweets without feeling hungry, thinking of food, or wanting more.

Then, I started wanting to not waste my calories on so-so flavors. If it was not positively deeee-lish, I didn't want it. Last May on a cruise, they had chocolate night. A huge room of chocolate noshes...most of which were mass produced and pretty danged so-so. I found a few that were amazing and ate them. Ignored the rest. Threw away the bites I sampled and decided against.

No sugar high/crash, no cravings. Just pleasure. It will depend on how your personal bod processes sweets. But I was an addict and a binger...and now I am not.

It can be done. (And, oh golly, is it ever fun!)
