We love to have the male perspective here. We don't get too much male representation, and I always like to read what's working or not working for the menfolk. That way I can try to relate it to DH if/when he decides to JUDDD again, probably when he gets to maintenance.

This. (and for the record, if you thought my post meant you or anyone here, I promise, it didn't - I didn't even read them - lol - but it is true, it can be discouraging how men lose SO MUCH FASTER - and it's true too that we b**ch about it! )

Ok another overview, now 12 weeks...

Weight today sitting at 194 (13st 12) so in six week of maintenance I have lost 3.5, but after a particularly heavy weekend away, with much beer, food etc, found myself 205, but only took two rotations to return to 196, which I now see as my "Base" weight to work around.

Still stick to rotations during the week, but free eat at the weekend, and generally see a bounce weight of 4 to 5 pounds for the weekends indulgences.

So all good.

Still see this as the best plan I have stumbled across, it works. My only downer is my inability to control UD's, Once given a free hand, I tend to overeat badly, and all the wrong things, then can't stop myself. I suspect the control freak within me doesn't like that. Although strangely I am not fearing Xmas this year, as I know with a couple of rotations after the festive period all with be back to Base again.

So at the moment I am trying to find ways to make long term JUDDD workable, so the UD's are in control. Played with Potato hack (had done this a few years ago) results in seperate thread, not really for me...

So now I'm looking at PHD, not for weight loss, but to add control to JUDDD.

I'll report back in a further six weeks...

Yeah, figuring out how to go from "I can eat that!" to "I want to eat healthy!" is a complex transition isn't it?

I tend to think of JUDDD as a WOL, within which I am still experimenting to nail down my perfect WOE. It sure is great - knowing I can prevent weight creep while I experiment.

The truth is out there.

Great progress Kettleboy! You've really learned a lot about your own metabolism and what works for you. High UDs don't seem to be hurting your overall success, which is great. WTG!

Kettleboy,
I am thrilled that you are trying PHD as well. I noticed right away that the plan had everything that I eat naturally except for the fermented veggies/kefir (which I like, but seldom include much) . I haven't read the book, plan to do so during my winter break. I don't suffer with Crohn's but notice that some days after DD, are a bit much on my digestion, so I really think that adding the health bugs will help with this one issue. I hope to hear how it is going for you in the near future. Congrats on your success!

Leona, I think you are doing great, but do understand the frustrations of having to work at this JUDDD plan.

Seeing Leona's exercise summary, just a word on mine.

When I started to lose the weight (May1st) I started running 5 miles twice a week and lifting twice a week. Both hard when I started, but became easier with weight loss and practice.

Last two months due to work/family pressure and reading 4 hour body (I have modified his routine) I decided to try his kettlebell swing routine. Where basically you swing a kettlebell as many times as you can, then stop, that's it, do this every other day, find easier on DD's as I'm more motivated.
I use a 53lb bell and when I started I could only do 35 swings, now doing 160.

My body has really changed and I feel functionally strong if that makes sense, as opposed to strong in very specific movements/directions. And I can't believe how it makes your heart want to explode out of your chest, so resistance/cardio in one, in less than 5 minutes.

And I have started wearing Vibram five fingers, took a while for my calves to get used to the idea, but these have changes my posture and gait completely.

Sorry a lot crammed in there...

Also want to read the "4 hour body". Does it speak about much that would be important? I love kettlebells, but unfortunately, I forget to do this until later in the evening. Isn't this one that should be done earlier? Also, does he speak about how to know which size? I have only gone up to 10 lbs and can't imagine going higher? Thanks for giving us all of these tips!

Have a look on the Dragon Door site, there are a few articles on there regarding sizing of Kettlebells. Realistically I would suspect an averagely able lady would probably start with 12 lb, working up to 18 lb which is 1/2 Pood, special award to the first person to come back and explain what a Pood is :-)

The 4 hour body is an interesting read, I've said before, some very interesting stuff regarding supplements for damage control on binge days, so I suspect they could be UD options. Also stuff on Cinnamon etc. but some stuff in there is some what far fetched.
Definetly worth a look

Pood, is a unit of mass equal to 40 funt (фунт, Russian pound). It is approximately 16.38 kilograms (36.11 pounds). It was used in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.

Do I win??

I read the 4 hour body after seeing the author on Oz's show.

You are right about some of it being far fetched. But I did learn some things and there are a number of helpful tips that are easy to implement and do with a more reasonable WOE like JUDD.

On Kettlebells, be sure that you learn how to use them correctly. I use a 20 pound kettlebell. If you don't use them right you can injure your back.

20 lbs is great Yam! Now, tell me when? I am interested in doing this on waking, I normally walk first after my morn supplement/drink. Would rather do bells then walk.

I like to do it mid morning or early afternoon. Either one works for me.

Start out with 20 reps if you can and work your way to more.

Very nice to read a male account of JUDDD. Congrats to you and your success Kettleboy.
I'm another judder with a tall guy, 6'4"
He's interested in the health benefits of JUDDD, only problem is, he is UNDER weight right now, thanks to him eating LC when I switched, he has tried everything to gain it back, I think he's 175 now, down from 195...so it's not working. He's a very healthy eater, fish, chicken, veggies, etc. He has also added oatmeal and protein powder several times a day to try to gain. He doesn't want to go back to all the bad carbs and sugar.
Do you think there is any way for him to do JUDDD and gain weight?? or will he disappear into nothing?

Zagnut, a difficult question, with very high UD's and DD's at about 1000, he could possibly gain.
He really only wants to be gaining muscle, adding fat would be wrong. So plenty of protein and fat, and some resistance training three times a week, less if he is over 40.

Again just what I'd do, not advice.

Thanks KB, I think he's going to try it. Like you mentioned in an earlier post, I don't know where the calorie deficit cut off is for DD to make them beneficial health-wise, so he'll be looking into that.
Wishing you continued success!

To draw a new line in the sand, I've resurrected this. Also good to read what I was doing...

Have completely lost discipline for a while now, been playing with LC, but no real progress, I think I've been using it as an excuse to overeat every day.

So where am I; 218 this morning, so a few months of UD's including holidays, more injuries than I'd care to mention, has seen a 18 lb gain.

Time to grab it by the scruff of the neck...

It happens to us all, KB. Sometimes you just get sick of the whole thing and need a break. I don't have any doubt you will drop those pounds fairly quickly. Sorry you've had so many injuries. Are they from exercising, or just life in general? (Sorry if intrusive)

Yes Kettleboy, we love hearing how well JUDDD works for the guys. My 6'3" DH needs to see it! Maybe I can convince him to do a little bit of reading.

I find it to be very motivating to see people reach goal and find themselves still losing a bit. Remember ...all of those people were overweight or obese previously. What an exciting problem to look forward to! I can dream!

No doubt that those few pounds you've added back of late will be gone again in short order with rotations.
