TJ, so glad you're ok! Has your food had time to thaw? Hate to hear of it ruining. Food is so costly these days! I hope power is restored soon.

they said here if your freezer is full, it can last frozen 2 days, and half-full would be 24hrs before it starts to thaw.

TJ, sorry you're having to rough it, but so glad you're okay. Hopefully your power will be back on soon and you won't lose too much food.
Carly, 27 flights sounds really rough! Up, and then down. That'd do me in! Glad she's okay. |

Good thought Soren but sadly just cold enough to make the house chilly (~50 degrees) but not cold enough to keep food frozen. We threw out half the freezer then went out and got ice. We'll see where we are by tomorrow. I'm going to the office where there is light and heat and hot water and power for all my gadgets, unfortunately there will also be work and staff and clients and other such annoyances there too!

all good here! We lucked out and lights only blinked off and on a bit. The kids didnt have school today either. We got a little over 3 inches of rain as of now, but they said a little more rain to come. The "eye" came further into PA that they thought it would and thats whats they said is over us now, even though its not an eye anymore. But the winds shouldnt pick up much more than what we have now. Trick or treat was moved til saturday, but mine arent going as its my sons b-day party. He wants a bon fire so hopefully we can find some dry wood.
I got home from work to late, but tomorrow hopefully, I need to go out back to the woods and look for a few things that blew away. And sometime this weekend hubby has to patch parts of the roof that was leaking!!! Glad to hear from most of my JUDDD BUDDD's who were in the path also!

I'm back to work in the morning. The office I go to on Wednesdays has power. Not sure about the Thursday office.
Glad most of my JBs survived the storm relatively unscathed. TJ- hope you get power really soon. |

My brother and his family are in Ohio. We just saw on the news that Cincinnati is flooding, and they're about an hour outside of Cincinnati. I tried to call them about 2 hours ago, left a voicemail message on their cell, and have not heard back. I'm hoping it's just that their power is out.

So happy to start hearing from those effected by the storm. Having previously lived in Florida, I have been through a number of hurricane seasons with only small damage and inconvenience compared to many others. Was never in the eye of the storm but knew some who were. My heart aches for those who lose loved ones or homes.

Today was back to work for some of us at my job, but many of our clinics have no power still. NYC schools are closed through Friday and those with no power will likely be with out for quite some time. It will take a long time to get things back to normal. There are trees down every where. Iron fences and benches were tossed around like they were toys.

Just saw the aerial views of the devestation in NY and NJ.
It will take a very long time. There are still issues with natural gas leaks and now we see oil spills so maybe more damage before it is all over. New Yorkers are known for their great courage and can do spirit. I can only pray for all of you. |

I'm back as of today. I work for a public school. We reopened on a 2-hour delay.
Lost power 4:00 pm on Monday. It's still off. Thankful to a friend who brought in his generator the next day and hooked it up so my whole house is functional. I'm glad because I'm not sure how I would have handled this with my daughter (who had a stroke last July). Internet / Cable / and my house phone was restored today - but still no power. The road is closed by my home because a tree lays on the power lines. O & R doesn't "do trees" - and the tree-man doesn't "do electric." Maybe (eventually) they'll find each other and get the job done. ![]() All and all, my daughter and I camped out on a futon on the first floor of my house. The wind was wild (lived here all my life and this storm was by far the worst I ever experienced). My house only lost a storm window, which had already been loosened. My heart goes out to those who lost MUCH more than me - NYC, Staten Island, New Jersey, Long Island - awful!

Jo, I'm so glad you made out as well as you did, and hope your power will be back soon! Crazy that the utilities and city/county management can't get it together in a time of crisis like this.
I'm so sorry about your daughter's stroke. I hope she's doing well and this storm didn't affect her too much. ![]() |

In Westchester and NYC we are out of gasoline. The only gas stations that still have gas... have no power so the gas can't be pumped. I am so grateful we filled up the night before the storm, but I don't know how long we will make it now that we are back to working every day. NYC taxis are running out of gas too and subways and trains are barely functioning. How are other states with gas?

Jo, I'm so glad your power is back on. Trees & electric lines do not work well together. How well I know that after a tornado came thru our place a few years ago. Fortunately, we're in the country outside a small town. So, power was here within 2 hours.
I, too, am sorry to hear about your daughter! Is she grown? I'm sorry, I haven't been here long enough to know your history. I am caregiver to my 25 yo son who had a cardiac arrest when he was 9 months old. There was extensive brain. So, he is a quadraplegic. We love him so very much & he is a joy to every member of our family! Take care & I hope the power & tree people stop squabbling & get to work!! Ugh!! Shari

My DH traveled from Atlanta to Asheville yesterday. He said the highway was clogged with repair trucks of all sorts - with license plates from many states - obviously headed North to help with the cleanup.

Thank you Cindy & LCG! Cindy, I know some really beautiful people with Downs!
![]() LCG, an angel I am not! (just ask my DH!) LOL! I haven't been here very long, but, I find this place so supportive that I feel like I need to give back what I've received. Some day, I may even know what I'm doing!!! ![]() Shari |

How is everyone doing? Other than the gas issue things are getting back to normal slowly. We have power and water and all that, but most of my co-workers, my parents, grandmother and sister do not. The power companies say some areas will not be restored before the 11th! We only waited half an hour for gas today, which is amazing. The average wait is over 2 hours. NJ has started alternate day fueling based on your license plate number. I hope NY will not start that, but I would understand if they do. Every station that has gas has a full police detail and the surrounding streets are closed in at least one direction to accomodate the line. We passed one station that has a line for people on foot with cans for their generator and a line for those in cars.
Nancy- yes, there are crews from as far away as Texas around here. They are helping to clear trees and try to restore power.

Hi all - I just got power back mid day today and am very glad to have lights, heat and power! I have been cleaning all day emptying 2 refrigerators and a full size freezer. Many trips to the dump, lots of scrubbing and a huge trip to the grocery store to restock at least a bit and we are almost done. Managed a DD on Thursday and one today but this week was a bust while living in the cold dark and only eating take out. I really wish I was one of those people who lose their appetite when in stress! Haven't gone near the scale and won't for a couple of more rotations. Had to hit 3 gas stations before we found gas today. Here's hoping the worst is behind us all.
